Although there hasn’t been too much of a spotlight on him, there is actually quite a bit of lore behind that signature gas mask of his. That acronym is a made-up fan name and is non-canonical. HUNK was originally a misspelling or mistranslation of "Hank"

Another fun fact is that, besides the original RE2, HUNK has been voiced by the same voice actor in all his other appearances. Said voice actor, Keith Silverstein, is also the voice of Torbjorn in Overwatch

Whenever Hunk "dies" in game, the screen starts to glitch violently as the words "You are Dead" appear. Then your TV screen cracks, Hunk comes out, stands next to you, and snaps your neck using CQQBZ.
After all, orders are orders, he never fails a mission, and the screen said "YOU Are Dead."
Hunk: I'm gonna put some snapping to your neck.
Hunk is THE most badass charater in the franchise.
Effortlessly, as well. A total throwaway character that everyone agrees is one of the best.
Other than Leon and Barry
I would say Wesker was the most badass, at least as a superhuman. But considering that HUNK is a pure human and so tough, he is indeed a close second
@@thenexus8384 i think he one ups leon because he handles situations with the minimal amount of equipment. Everyone can get any arsenal because merchants or they find it on the way through their missions but hunk stays with a pistol, smg and a knife

I’d agree it is non canon although I think Lady HUNK had the same voice as Rachel?
That and while HUNK is the guy that never dies, Rachel does die but comes back in a sense - as a monster, then as a playable raid mode character as requested by fans, later in a cameo appearance in Revelations 2 trailer and finally we have Gina Foley who shares the same last name as Rachel (sister?).
She’s become somewhat immortal herself in a sense so maybe it was a bit of a nudge wink from the devs.

From what I’ve heard there was supposedly going to be a extra campaign for revelations 1 with Hunk and Rachel but it was cut during development.

@@officertenpenny8709 I definitely agree with you. I feel like a lot of cool characters in a lot of other games not Resident Evil related were kind of ruined because the mysteries were gone. Mortal Kombat was one of the biggest victims to that actually haha.
Technically in Umbrella Chronicles Hunk looks into the G Virus glass, and you can see his reflection. However, it's very abstract and just looks like REmaster Chris so it's probably not canon.
Probably the reason they waited so long to make him his own game.
Hunk is soo loved and I still don’t understand why but I love him too
Personally, I call it the boba Fett effect. Where a side character looks absolutely badass, but doesn't get much screen time and is important for usually one particular instance in the overall plot. This gives the character a mysterious air around them and their existence, therefore keeping them in the minds of the fan base, overall making them very popular in the franchise Zeitgeist.

For some reason older soldiers are so much more intimidating than young ones. It’s fitting that Hunk looks like he’s in his early to mid fifties, all that experience makes him a bigger threat.
In the infantry, we have a saying. Fear the old man in a profession of young men. Meaning his experience trumps any fitness or heart the younger man can bring.
I'm still thinking he's in the same squad with Ada or perhaps Hunk is her supervisor

Ever since his one-hit kill neck breaker from RE4, the move has become legendary even in the RE universe. In Operation Raccoon City, in order to emphasize Vector's close quarters combat abilities, it states that was able to "escape HUNK's infamous neck breaker", implying this is an extremely difficult feat.
As much as I hate to mention the movie series, Alice's neck-break always made me think it was a nod to HUNK

@@tigerfang6063 Both the FM12 and S10 have red lens adaptors. I've had both. Same for the radio piece. But I'm 100% sure it's an FM12 (or the almost Identical, the CT12) based on the contour near the nose of the mask. The only think not real is his filter and his VPU. No such models exist.

Honestly hunk should of been in “resident evil 7”, and village. Not Chris. Hunk deserves more screen time and even a game.
That's what I said as well, hunk should be the one in resident evil village not chris redfield, as well as the one who takes Ethan Winters daughter rose Winters. where hunk is hire by the connection gang, to take in a way the reincarnate eveline which is rose Winters and bring her back to the connection group for futher testing.
I have a hunch that the developers of resident evil village is likely going to seemly state, also to somewhat apply the reason why Chris redfield took Ethan Winters child, where Chris redfield was trying to put Ethan Winters child into some higher protective custody, from the head occult leader Miranda the wick witch but he somehow lost the child.
Now I'm not quite sure why Chris redfield didn't try to reason or negotiate with Ethan Winters/Mia Winters on the matter beforehand about putting Rose Winters into a highly defensive security quarantine. Or told Ethan Winters and Mia Winters it would be advise not have children due to evenline molded infections likely still running through their DNA, but to instead adopt a child.
So what do you think about Hunk being hire by the connection group and task to take along with bring Ethan Winters child Rose Winters back to the connection gang in resident evil village?

Then I played not a hero and it threw that theory out the window. I honestly have no idea what Capcom is doing and I don’t like it. To me it just doesn’t seem like Chris at all so part of me wants to believe it’s a fake. But why make a fake Chris? I honestly have no idea what’s gonna happen and I’ll watch videos to find out. I never owned 7 and my friends begged me to play it and gave me a copy to play. I just truly feel hunk being in 7 and village would of made sense because he was so devoted to umbrella. I think Hunk should have been one of the banned footages DLC, but I don't think he should have had a full arc of his own. It's clear Hunk is meant to be a "Okay, you beat the game, now it's time to REALLY test your skills." type of thing. A sort of pro mode, a twist on the main game. Trying to give him too much screen time or a story would kind of undermine that.

Hunk is sort of like the Boba Fett of the Resident Evil universe. It became a fan favorite almost instantly despite having very little in the way of characterization and screentime, and the creators have realized this and took advantage by giving him more presence, but not enough to ruin it. I hope he finally gets his own game. but I also hope they don't overdo it with the characterization. He needs just enough.
yeah, if he ever gets his full game and they go into a huge backstory, his mystique will be lost. He's best this way, as side character with only "guest" appearances here and there, where he acts like force of nature.
When you play the 4th survivor and realize how ridiculous it is. Just remember in cannon Hunk did all of this in less than 6-8 minutes. With the city ready to blow to hell. Crazy.

He was most likely taking his helmet off for short periods of time to eat, other from that he most likely ate off of sewer trash or maybe went to the surface for short periods of time to get food, he probably got the deagle and shotgun from either the Kendo gun shop or dead survivors, but he also probably laid low in the sewers for most of his time in racoon city since theres no bows there@@thenegativoneify

I would also be warning you because those old gas mask filters from the 1940s all the way to the 50s are bad for your lungs they're filled with blue asbestos and many factory workers died with lung disease

HUNK is my favorite video game character of all time and always has been. He's videogaming's version of the "Silent professional", You dont know much about him, and you dont need too. He's the guy who goes in, gets the job done, and gets out. No crazy motivations, no extensive character development, no personal trials. Just an operator doing what he's paid to do. No bitching, no complaining, just a merc doing his job because its his job. I honestly appreciate that about him more than all these other characters in gaming who are so ridiculously fleshed out.

I would consider him neutral after the fall of umbrella cause let’s be real I doubt he cares much about the company other than giving him good paychecks so I would like to assume he becomes a full time mercenary since that would give him new purpose and probably make possible enemies forget about him since he wouldn’t be with umbrella anymore by that point.

Something else that everybody overlooks about HUNK is that Birkin's transformation / the Raccoon City outbreak began 7 days before the actual game takes place. This means HUNK evaded Birkin, and fought off every other bio weapon running amok, nonstop, for *a whole goddamn week* before the EVAC chopper arrived.

HUNK's kit and the kit of his team in RE2 remake is extremely realistic for late the 1990s. Alot of attention to detail. The mp5 the butt pack. The dump pouch, his chest rig all very era appropriate. It was nice to see the old school pre war on terror look for a special operations troop.
Very akin to what is known as the "Black kit" which is the famous gas masked uniform used by British SAS.

In Re Survivor there’s a character named the Undetaker Commander who’s the leader of a genetic clean up crew that’s send by Umbrella to contain the outbreak and destroy Sheena Island.
His has no official name, but his character is named Hank in the gamefiles.
He also has a similair outfit like Hunk including the red glasses which are from night goggles

Four is related to death in many Asian countries due to the word's similar spelling to death in Asian languages. In fact, the picture of the elevator panel you showed is from Shanghai.
Nah, I think the phrase "The Death cannot die." is done fine. It sounds a little weird but makes sense if you think about it. He's considered Death incarnate and Death cannot die as Death is a force of nature itself. It also alludes to the fact that seemingly no matter the mission or odds, he always comes out alive.
Death-incarnate goes by many names, including _Death_ so yeah, I'd say _Death cannot die_ checks out, especially if spelled with a capital D indicating Death is a noun and not a verb.

Based on that report about having lost his humanity, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that he is the product of one of Umbrella's many super soldier programs. Also, releasing the G-Virus onto the black market might have been a scorched earth contingency plan that was implemented in response to Umbrella's fall.

It's cool to see a minor character be so mysterious yet so badass. I only discovered him in the RE2 Remake and already he's my favorite RE character. He reminds me of the Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade soldiers and I'm almost positive that's where the inspiration for his armor came from as they inspired the Helghast from Killzone and Wolfenstein, all of which looked badass af.
Or from the British SAS, the uniforms are very similar, minus the larger chest rig.
