- William Birkin was behind the scenes causing havoc and laying down the groundwork for viruses and monsters that would go on for decades and leave a really dark legacy behind him even after his death. So today lets flip the script and put the scientist under the microscope to get a better look at this infamous Virologist in resident evil.

I always thought that the reason why Birkin mutated the most on his right side is because if you look closely at the FMV, he gets most of the damage from the gunfire on his right side/arm, even when injecting himself he uses the left arm. The G-virus is supposed to repair damaged tissue, but by "repair" is means horrible mutation since the virus is a living organism based on the progenitor virus.
If we think as the new tissue as cancerous or tumorous, that would mean that Birkin would have benefited from the G-virus before taking damage. Had he injected himself before being shot he may have gained rapid regeneration like his daughter but the damage he took was massive so G opted for making him grow again from using the new cells as the new body and Birkin became a simple host destined to be devoured little by little by the new G-Birkin.
Portraying William's struggle to maintain control of his body was one of the few things that RE2-remake did REALLY well. As the 2nd fact states. Wonderfully grotesque, and scary. R.I.P Willie-G
I highly agree. Especially in moments where his voice goes from monster to more human and back. It's been a while since I've done a play through of the original RE2 but if I remember, there wasn't as much of a struggle. More like "Oh please help me. Well I'm a monster now. SHERRY!!!"
I also like that they didn’t make him loose a lot of his scenes, like they did to Nemesis in 3 and Chief Irons (literally made him a bad guy rather than a deranged psychopath; I played RE2 Remake Before the original, since I never played it and honestly found Irons scarier than he was in too, because it showed his fucked up mind in more than one way).
Willie-G 😆
I forget which movie it was but the villain injects himself with the g virus and IMMEDIATELY mutates. Which I didn't care for. William only mutated where his body had trauma and mutates more and more as we cause more damage to him.
@@bobthedopeman7327 you are referring to the first CGI movie Degeneration. Yeah it was RE2 but done kinda poorly compared to the original it was based off of.
William is an interesting character where virtually every new entry into the series added a tiny chunk more lore to him
how is someone who has like 6 lines of dialog. an interesting character?
@@ashyoshicharizard3949 Did you read the comment or just the first 5 words?
@@samhoned8277 no
@@ashyoshicharizard3949Yes, deal with it
the Actor who played William Birkin in The Darkside Chronicles, TJ Rotolo: who voiced Frank West in Dead Rising and Credo in Devil May Cry 4 as well, is also the ONLY actor, who reprised his Role in the Remake.
Kai mentioned this in a another video
The voice actor of William birkin in original re1 also played mordred in goosebumps episode a night on terror tower
The most distracting part of the REmake
I think your also forgetting Kevin Silverstein who voices HUNK
William Birkin is one of my all time favorite video game antagonists. His monster forms are all wonderfully designed and his backstory is complex and tragic, even if he was an actual monster before becoming a physical one.
Fun fact on William Birkin: he is the only B.O.W. boss character you face 5 times in Resident Evil 2's scenario B, also he is the boss you face the most in the entire Resident Evil series, you did a nice job on William Birkin Ink Ribbon ✌️
@@KazzKobb I think only 3 times we must face nemesis, in clock tower, water disposal, and rail canon, the others are optional, cmiiw
@@KazzKobb You only really face off against Nemesis 3 times. The other times you find him are optional.
@@theonlyethanhiroshiki I played, what I mean is we MUST face nemesis, not optional
@@KazzKobb nemesis isn't in RE2 noob.
@@dakotajourdan2526 he technically is lore wise, since the events of re2 and 3 are happening at the same time.

I KNEW I WASN'T CRAZY!
Thanks for confirming that William actually talks in the first fight.
imagine a scenario where William got the superhuman effect like Wesker while Wesker just turned into a giant G monster.....
I like that William’s fleshy appearances in his forms (and with most of the monsters) isn’t far off from actual growths look like. I have a feeding tube (tongue cancer) and when I had my first tube in, it was kinda big, so it cause a benign lump (which my dumbass doctors thought was cancer, even though I was out of pain medicine and could feed) which honestly looked like a G Adult.
I love that unlike most Zombie games, Resident Evil actually uses realistic inspiration for their monsters and weapons to defeat them (the solutions).
Honestly William Birkin is one of the best original Resident Evil human antagonist throughout the franchise besides Albert Wesker, the only true weakness that William Birkin actually had was that Giant Eye on his right arm but also that makes the G virus very unique but also a weakness.
alfred and irons were both better than him
Hey Kai! So I'd say it is Berkin's eye in the main menu. However, you had mentioned it doesn't even look like his eye. If you watch the true ending of the PS1 Resident Evil 2 game, his eye finally takes that form right as the train explodes in the tunnel :) I'd say it looks like him, eventually haha
True
I always thought it was the crocodile or a hunter's eye
It could be that they made that scene before hand and ended up changing his eye later on in development (maybe even forgetting what it looked like).
@@adamsmoberly that's pretty valid, re2 went through a lot of different phases, the game we got was very different from 1.5 for sure
If you skip the whole implanting embryos into your own daughter thing, William is probably the greatest dad of all time. He gave Sherry super powers essentially and idk what gift would be better than that. Granted, if Claire and Leon hadn't given her the vaccine, she would've just become a monster, but I try to look at the positives lol.
Eh. I guess. 🤔
Unluckily for him he didn't get to see his daughter become the fast healing superhuman being he intended all G-Virus hosts to be when he created it and not horny hungry killer monsters.
Idk I got 3 daughters and I can say with out a doubt even if they would maybe get super powers I’m not doing anything to them it’s horrible xD
When you realise he tried to reproduce with his daughter😳
He wasn't really a monster before tho, William heaving something to do with the orphanage just happened on the remake, in the original one (the cannon one too) he doesn't have anything to do with the orphanage
4:40 Even though Annette said herself William had lost all of his human memories by that point so it was probably just false hope that she'd somehow be able to get through to her husband even though he'd become a mindless monster that only cared about reproducing more creatures like itself.
i just realised re6 missed a huge opertunity with abilities basically like sherry has regenerative abilities so she regenerates health and jake has unlimited stamina ada has better range melee attacks and stuff
William has always been my favorite monster in the series, and the most fascinating imo, so learning something new about him is always welcome! Would love to see more facts about our favorite tyrants!
5:35 I've played the re2 scenarios in darkside alot of times and never encountered these "G-Zombies" .. they are probably cancelled concepts
If you take too long in the G5 fight, he/it will spit out these G-Zombies. They’re identical to crawling zombies, gameplay wise.
I love enemies that still show a glimpse of their humanity. The Scagdead is probably the best example in the RE universe.
Starting with continuing his last words as a human and sending out a distress signal for the ship.
Then a denial and confusion about whats going on. "Dont shoot, im a human!"
You get him straight up warning you to get away because he realizes what he has become "Im a monster" and "my body wont listen to me".
Then completely devolves into a rambling monster "Flesh! Flesh! FLESH! Tasty i want to EAT!"
When performing it's signature OHK you can see the human head scream in terror. I've noticed it in RE:R2's Raid Mode, but I think it was on the original revelations both on Story and Raid too.
Resident Evil 2 on the N64 was my first experience of the franchise and I never regretted renting this game over and over again. Just to listen to the soundtrack and the badass boss themes at the end.
Why not just buy it if you already had the system?
@@amyschildgamerlive4519 I couldn't find it for sale anywhere at the time. So I kept going to Hollywood Video
@@rafaelmauricio8000 ah makes sense. Make do with what ya have available.
Speaking of Wesker, do you think that he could still be alive? The "mastermind" Wesker from 4 and the "agent Smith" from 5 look and behave differently, so the guy from 5 could be a clone or a designer baby.
Not a lot of people know this due to the game being famously bad but Umbrella Corps is a prequel to 7 setting up Blue Umbrella and their Commander is HEAVILY implied to be Wesker himself, he even has voiced lines.
I'd say he's alive alright never count a guy who wears sunglasses at night out!😎
William is a very well written character!! Awesome video!
This was great! I didn't realize you hadn't done Birkin yet. He's got to be my all time favorite RE villain & video game villain in general!
Even his final form on the train has his face still, just that it's not visible from inside the train. There's a video out there where they view the model from outside and find William's face on the parts outside the train.
While it is possible that William's eyes ceased to work as he mutated, they do appear to function in his first mutation, as his head turns to look at his right arm when it mutates into it's iconic look. Speaking of said arm, both the original RE2 and Outbreak versions of his attack on the Umbrella team depict William with his claw-arm, yet when first encountered by either Claire or Leon, his arm is only slightly larger and hasn't changed much beyond being grossly discolored. while his arm is seen shrinking and growing in the remake, it's hard to tell if this was the case with his arm during the original game or a mere oversight like some other scenes in the games.
The "G-Zombies" in 5:38 are spat out by William's final form in the Racoon City scenario. They're not very threatening, and they don't appear often, and when they did they'd get blasted apart immediately. But if you took your sweet time to fight him in that form to marvel at the details and his designs like I did, he'd occasionally spit one out. Most people wouldn't see that though because it's so easy to quickly blow him to bits.
Great video!. - I like the way William, Wesker and Alexia were rivals trying to outdo each others morbid experiments.
Fact #26: he is one of the greatest additions in Dead by Daylight and we’re happy to have him
Addition fun fact in RE2 remake he’s voiced by TJ Rotolo the same man that voiced Frank West in the Dead Rising games (except that one we don’t talk about). Yes I’m a DR fan and just wanted to point that out.
5:50 since re2r is a reimagination it is not canonical, William studied in the Spencer mansion and then in 1998 moved to Raccon City, but canonically he never had anything to do with the orphanage
You got it wrong. Re2r along with re3r are now canon. It goes: zero,re1r,re2r,re3r and so on.
For example,re4 is now canon til re4 remake comes out. After that re4 remake takes its place as canon. Re3 remake made the ground for it with nemesis parasite
@@ghostofwar5430 it literally can't be as zero, outbreak and 5 can't work with the remakes
@@ghostofwar5430 I repeat, it is a reimagination just like re3r,re2r and re3r will never be canonical
I like to think that Resident Evil is now split into two universes. The “original” universe with all the classic games and the “remake” universe, which includes the RE1-3 remakes. They’re both technically canon, but not canon to each other. Understand?
I also believe in the remake when you fight Birkin he does say: "I neeed HER!!" As a reference to Sherry
Hey Kai, I am sorta new to the channel but I just wanted to let you know that you are my new favorite content creator. These games are pure nostalgia for me and hearing all these new facts is so awesome. Keep it up!
"G IS MY CREATION!!" Am I the only one that laughed so hard when William said that in the RE2 Remake? 😂😭
He's spittin facts tho
It wasn't believable, which made it hilarious! 😂👍👍👍
Thank you for finally making this video. I had requested this back in your Sheva 25 facts months back.
You shall cover 50 facts about the Tyrant projects (from T-001 to T-103 variants)
Another one, except for the original RE2, William has been voiced by the same voice actor in all the other versions.
Why can't they do that with alyson court for Claire.. . Sigh
@@emmafrost16 because they don’t have to
I always felt that his G3 form was what the G-Virus intended to create, so I wonder how it could have evolved had he’d not been badly damaged by Leon and Claire, since that’s what caused G to devolve into form 4 & 5. Perhaps he could’ve regained his sentience? Or at the very least G would gain a personality rather then acting purely on instinct.
I don't think he'd regain his sentience if he had evolved more. By the time we see him in the 3rd form, he's already long gone.
Always watching your Facts contents! Keep it up, Kai! 👏
Dude I can't believe you took my advice when I commented about you making 50 facts about raccoon city that's great man I'm so stoked that actually worked for the first time. Awesome man! I just recently had another perfect idea for another video you can do thats perhaps the biggest one for you yet dude, you should definitely do 50 facts about umbrella itself. You can certainly cover all of there facilities, laboratories, and on map locations including all of the B.O.Ws that were created by umbrella themselves and even the mercenaries that were hired by umbrella that went to raccoon city in resident evil 3 (Carlos Oliveira for example) to help rescue survivors. I really think that's the perfect choice for you next man! U should definitely do it!👍👍
did not know he says help me and kill me, def new in the remakes, and Sherry will stay young forever dam, can imagine a resident evil several years in the future where everyone is old as hell and ofc Sherry looks the same lol
Amazing video ! I always liked William, I think he's well written. It was cool to learn some new things about him :))
Didn't expect glitch facts, awesome video Kai!
I love this series. Thank you Kai!!!
Good stuff you always keep me informed about resident evil
i Guess since Cherry is gonna be young forever we will be seeing her sooner in another resident evil game
or maybe shell get her own spinoff
"I will takeover your research. Hahahahaha.'
Birkin to Marcus resident evil 0
if you think about it the creature that was controlling birkin was actually trying to seperate itself from birkin
Kinda interesting that the virus has its own mind and just used william as a husk to grow and develop but then mutated to attempt to seperate itself from him. So William wanted to seperate from the monster because he hoped he would turn out how Sherry did, but the monster wanted to seperate from Birkin as well, unfortunately they were both stuck with each other.
I'll never forget his terrifying scream from the original Resident Evil 2 game.
#17 was really useful for my no damage run. Thanks!
Second Cameo in an Inkribbon video 😊😊😊. Great video, keep up the great work.
25 facts about Tofu
Defo wanna see this 😂
Hi Kai I love your videos I ended up subscribing have a good day and keep up the good content
Just came back to watch this video as William Birkin became a playable killer in the game Dead by Daylight
great stuff man 🙂
Love your content mi amigo
Man I actually learned some stuff about Birkin thank you Kai
Awesome! I recently beat RE2 Remake for the first time! Loved it! They did a phenomenal job on William in the remake.
0:40 i wasn't wearing my glasses and initially thought he was wearing a sick t-shirt.
Big Resident Evil fan. Thanks for this upload 👍🏻
6:34 I always thought that eye was the eye of the giant alligator
Alexia Ashford: *Exists*
William Birkin: Peace was never an option
Weren't Las Plagas ancient and not derived from G virus, or are we speaking about different variants of them like in 5?
If I remember correctly, Las Plagas was an ancient parasite that used Williams research to turn it into the mind controlling zombifying parasite we see in RE4 and RE5.
Yeah Las Plagas existed centuries before Umbrella was even formed as a company. Chronologically Las Plagas the Mould and the Progenitor Virus are the first infectious things in the RE universe since the Plagas were used by the Los Illuminados cult for centuries until the first Salazar castellan knowing how evil the cult was buried the parasites under his castle where they stayed until centuries later when Saddler came along. The megamycete had probably been in that cave for years when a suicidal Miranda, grieving went in there and found it and it infected her. I don't think there was ever a way to resurrect Eva but the mould affected Miranda's mind, drove her insane and made her believe there was. And before Spencer, Marcus, Edward and their researchers discovered Progenitor in the 1960's African tribesmen in Kijuju ate the flower the virus was extracted from and whoever survived became king.
Interesting. After I play RE Village, I got the impression that the Mold was where everything started. Miranda was over a hundred years old and I believe she discovered the Mold in 1919. She also worked with Spencer and he left her to create the Umbrella Corporation. Also, I thought Umbrella created the Las Plagas virus? It’s been years since I’ve played RE 4 lol.
I just commented this above. Las Plagas has nothing to do with the T or G virus other than that they are both in the RE franchise. AFAIK.
Never stop making these
Very interesting!
Maybe next you could do Helena, Jessica or Excella? :D
Nice work as always ! Would love to see your take on facts about Carlos Oliveira ! :D
It would be kind of cool to learn a little bit more about Manuela Hidalgo from resident evil darkside Chronicles
I've been waiting on this yes
Now I know what I'm going to watch during lunch! Thanks for the great contend man, was waiting for this video!
The g virus is very similar to cancer as they both try and repair cells but end up making horrible tumors
I know its not a very high profile game, but one day could we get a facts list about survivor?
The cut children experiments in remake was a miss opportunity
Hey Kai, have you found a space in the final form? It's pretty sick.
I wonder if that rejected art of Birkin got reworked into the Bandersnatch from Code Veronica.
I wouldn't be surprised, given how similar the Bandersnatches are to Birkin.
Kai have you done a facts video on Carlos yet? I feel like you must have but if not that would be my top pick. Or maybe one on the UBCS in general
Kai: "...making everyone pregnant."
Lisa Jai: *screams in Canadian*
Yay! Spencer or maybe Wesker project next please!
Birkin is one of my favourite characters in RE series.
You missed one fact: TJ Rotolo, the voice of Frank West from DEAD RISING, has voiced Birkin since Umbrella Chronicles all the way to RE2 Remake.
Man, Sherry’s dad was nuts.
It’s the guy from DBD!
If capcom ever remakes file outbreak i hope they add the birkin scenario
Top right drawing at 6:53 reminds me of a D-reaper/Chrubimon hybrid fanart drawing I've seen.
i think ive heard him say "im not a monster" in the remake during the first fight
love this channel lol
5:35 In Darkside Chronicles if you do nothing during the birkin fight on the train he will spit out a those zombies.
INK RIBBON 👍 great video !
Las plagas comes from underneath the Salazar castle they were fossilized from being stored for centuries
The fact that his human face is visible even far into the mutation really surprised me!
Fuck yeah I love these. And with one of my most favourite characters.
Nice one Ink.
I always felt William died when the new head came. Or at least was alive as a head grown into the chest, but lost all control to the mutations new mind.
Something to support showing that William needs to eat is that in his 4th form in the remake, you can see several extra human limbs sticking out, or it could be malformations
This channel is great, well-researched facts regarding resident evil!
Fun Fact: William is a least antagonist that doesnt left handed.
One interesting fact not mentioned is same voice actor of William birkin in original re2 played mordred in goosebumps episode a night in terror tower
Do a video of the RE.Outbreak characters.
You ever able to do something on Alan wake or Adam Jensen? Great fact video.
kai are you going to do a video on Katherine Warren? does she have any bit of a story? or her father who never died in the rest of the games or heard about again after he left raccoon city and left his daughter behind?
Best scientist in the resident evil franchise
The G zombies may actually be in Darkside Chronicles. When fighting G-Birkin on the train, if you stall the battle to a certain point, he appears to regurgitate a half zombie that crawls towards you.
Birkins eye matches up in the original in a post credits scene of the Claire A scenario
Love your content mate,
Literally the only channel I have post notifications on.
Kai please can you do some asmr or reading more of the stories?? Your voice is so lush 😍
I'm all up for some RE ASMR lol
