  • Here is yet another broken crankshaft out an LBZ duramax, I'm not sure where the bad batch came from but I've been seeing more and more lately.

Go with an alternate firing order cam. Its amazing that the crank doesn't completely destroy the front of the block when it breaks like that. SBC factory steel cranks typically break at the same point, but the front of the crank usually goes right through the block and you are left with giant paper weights.

I believe the LB7 and LLY have the same piston rid assembly.

Crank needs to be keyed and Fluidampr balancer installed as preventive maintenance. Some Duramax are worse than others. LBZ and LMM are typically the worst.

100% agree with the fluidampr balancer.

do you delip the LB7 pistons for valve clearance and lower compression? other then that its not needed right ?

The valve clearances are needed for certain camshafts, delipping should be done on all duramax’s in my opinion. I would like to find a shop that can do it for me. The trick is, they all have to way the same

    Will I need a fluidamper if I’m using a Callie’s Compstar crank?

Yes, and will need to get the rotating assembly balanced

Harmonics on a crankshaft not designed for the loads being applied to it.

Not sure what kind of Boost or Power they were Put’n to that engine but we’ve Ran Duramax Trucks on the Ranch since 2001 some with over 400,000 miles and haven’t Babied them at all and have never had any Rod, Piston or Crankshaft Issues whatsoever………

As a diesel mechanic for 38 years, that is the worst engine made to this day people buy them because they think the pick up looks good. Need to check the heart stay away from them Duramax they will not change.
