@@christopherburke2348 I found Atdi and I was in my aggressive teenage punk years, then Sparta was my favorite band, I could never stand mars Volta, it was just chaotic and sounded like people stoned and jamming.
As a punk rawk kid growing up around El Paso I can say that Jim Ward has always been a straight up guy. He fought the stuff that they tried to feed us. In a situation like that he has always spoken out loud.
I would love to go to el paso more in that times it was 90s and beggining of te 2000s right ?? im From Juarez so i blame myself because when this came to mee, its was too late, BUT I ALWAYS LOVE American alt rock from earlies 90s to 2000, but things COME BACK ;)

There are 2 mixes of this song. One is sharp and tightly produced, but there is another that is grittier and sloppier and rocks soooo hard. I'd love to compare the two. It really shows how Much a producer can change a song, or even the mix. The simple choices you make.
Will be seeing them perform this today. This video looks great...obviously shot on film as you can tell by the color and light (and date). If this had a 4k scan, it would look awesome. Seeing that this is from 2002 blows my mind.
I cannot fucking wrap my head around how this video doesn't have even half a million views after 8 years. What in the actual fuck is wrong with this world?
ATDI perfect combination of control and chaos. Sparta represent the controlled rhythm section and TMV the chaos layered atop, they both lack something without each other for me personally.
I never saw this video till now! These guys have a lot of memories for me in my heart and I get some songwriting inspiration from them. In fact, I respected them so much I never wanted to learn this song for fear it would dilute their greatness. I guess it's time to get over that :)
time fucking flies. i remember being a little ass kid seeing this on mtv or the internet. loved it. got into atdi and mv later and never knew the connections until a few years in. wild.
I've only heard so many of Sparta's songs but this one really reminded me of ATDI. anyone know of any other songs that bring them back to the ATDI days?
Really sorry to bust in, but is this the version of the song that's on the album? I remember trying to find it a long time ago and hearing some demo. I think this is the album version but it's been so long since I heard it I can't be sure. Also, I find this CZcams conversation to be very refreshing and respectful and I think it's the first time I saw a civilized debate on this site!
They are not soldiers. They wield no spear, no sword. Yet they face the evil hordes of the (sadly most people think) god king-bieber. Join Sparta! Face the invaders, defend the land of real music!
@Licardo7 i like tons of songs from 2001 lol its just that this one sounds sorta older than those. like the whole style. Its like how 'black veil brides' sounds old. Its just the style
Dude I love Quicksand so much. I got to see them in Atlanta this past summer. I've heard of Snapcase but don't think I've listened, I'll check them out!
I swear I saw Jim last year at Monarch Bar in El Paso TX with Beto O´rourke, they looked like having just a relaxing time that i didn´t bother to go and say Hi, even I wanted an autograph, then the TV news arrived and talked to the owner about the upcoming covid restrictions and how they´re planning to face the situation, like if he knew how to face that situation.. that was literally the last time I crossed to El Paso :( March 6 2020, my last beer and nachos at that beautiful Bar, fuck covid.
@xvirequiem agree. being from el paso (home town to atdi and a few members of those bands) i went through high school listening all 3 bands. but i tend to lean to sparta simply because jim ward is a much more in tune with his lyrics. plus the tmv are a bit stuck up, and buy into there own hype. but i still love all 3
Massively underrated band
Yes very
You can really tell he made a large part of ATDI's sound
Could you have weathered the sjws?

fuck yeah whos here with this man?
Hard agree. All three have their own vibe and they were all perfect for different parts of my life.

@@nintendogamer5472 that’s exactly it though. It’s the beauty in the music theory chaos that makes me love Mars. But to each their own of course.
2022 and still jams the same. Takes me back!
I only more recently found it, but do attest. It indeed jams
Loved this record back in high school. Sparta, dredg, and glassjaw tour was quite a thrill.
I swear that tour was Snow-Core but I could be crazy. I remember that tour. Saw them all in NYC. Any Glassjaw show I could get to, I got to.
God that must've been ridiculous.
I have been trying to remember a song that I couldn't put my finger on for ten years, and you just helped me figure it out, "of the room" by dredg
Wow what a tour
I imagine that venue popped off hard

@Grizzly Poota I was going to make the same comment but a year after yours now 5 years after his comment on 17 years later :D lol
Same lol
This song sucks. I can't believe you liked it for 12 years.
Jim Ward owns several bars in El Paso where hes from and I love going to support his venues. Long Live Sparta
Enrique Ortiz wich ones?

This is the first band I seen in concert. … back in 2000 with dashboard and weezer
Same!!! 2002 strokes, Weezer, Sparta, dashboard confessional. I went in Columbus Ohio...Maladroit was Weezer's latest album...

Some were from a band called At the Drive In. Some came here, some went to “The Mars Volta”. Give those two a listen.
