- Former Canucks Forward Ryan Kesler joined the guys and looked back on his performance against the Predators in 2011, shared his thoughts on the current Canucks roster and more.

Canucks should invite Kesler to Game 1 to crank up the siren before the start of the game to get the crowd pumping.
Or drop the puck
great idea tbh. I remember in 2015 the canucks had a different alumni member wave the towel with the crowd before the game. Could do it again this year.
That would get the crowd goin like no other
Fantastic idea!
remember when he came back as a duck? so that aint happening
Kesler single handedly destroyed the Predators in 2011
Add a couple of his teammates wife's and gf's to that destruction 😂
your thumbnail gives me PTSD
Kesler talking about the end of his career and the game being taken from him was a hard listen. I bought his jersey in '07 long before he became the player most of us remember in his 40 goal selke year. I just really wish he would have never had that moment in his return where he was waving off the fans for wanting to give him the recognition he deserved for being a great Canuck.
Yup we all get father timed in some fashion or another...I'm knee destroyed pushing 40 atm myself
Man I miss Kesler
Could of been captain in my eyes. His passion was amazing
U can say that JT Miller is our Kesler of this era
Man they should bring Kesler in the Canucks dressing room before game one, letting them know you may never get back and feelings when it’s over, get some of his experience to these guys.
Tough listen - really feel for Ryan here but was nice to hear him speak candidly about his experience. Tough to feel like you're losing out on the game that you love so much, but glad to hear he's found joy in coaching his kid. Forever a Canuck
Kesler was the first hockey player that really made me love hockey and cheer for the Canucks
People talk about the Nashville series, but without his performance in Game 7 vs Chicago, that team would have been blown up. His rush on the opening goal is legendary.
Kesler you are royalty in Vancity. Come back any time 👑
anyone got goosebumps hearing ryan talk?
Kesler, you will always have a home here in Vancouver. Forever a Canuck
What an emotional interview. Got a little teared up when he talked about the game being taken from him due to injury and Ryan closing with he will always be a Canuck.
great interview. forever a canuck.
He gave everything he had to the canucks. Truly will be appreciated forever.
I remember the way Ryan Kesler played in the 2011 playoffs... in game 7 against Boston, I felt he was the only Canuck who was not affected by the moment, and he was trying single-handedly to take down the Bruins.. His career ended in such a disappointing way and you could hear that in his voice still... But I'm glad to hear that he has regained his love for the game through coaching... I think it is a worthy conversation that he should be considered to be a ring of honour player...
This was great hearing from Kes! The term “put the team on his back” always makes me think of Kesler in 2011 against the Preds. Bo Horvat against St Louis in the bubble series comes to mind next.
But Kes had 41g/82gp that season, playing at a selke level as a 2nd line center-wow that team was stacked.
Thanks though guys! Love hearing from former Canucks and seeing they still follow the team and cheer for their success. 😊
Kesler was awesome. Guy killed himself to win and went out on his shield. Miss him so much. Respect!
One of the most emotionally satisfying moments in Canuck history was the warmth he was received with by Canucks fans in his return to Rogers Arena a few years back. Would love to see him get a one day contract to have his number retired to the rafters. One adjective that was never used in describing Ryan was 'lazy'. He was passionate member of the team and he deserves to be honored for that. Nuff said.
Kesler in his prime was a beast
Long time Canucks fan. Huge fan of Kessler! That whole team was awesome.
I still have my Kes jersey hanging proud. Miss you bud
Nashville wont be able to stop JT Miller!
JT plays a lot like Kesler did in his prime.
@@jaythompson5102 Miller is a lot better than Kesler though. He puts up way more points
@@WingsOfAnemiadifferent era of scoring imo. You're underrating Kesler a bit there.
@@David-we3py Miller was a far better scorer even on an era adjusted basis. Kesler was a great player, don’t get me wrong. I have his jersey and loved him as a player here. But Miller is just a step above
@@jaythompson5102 No, Miller's defensive play has definitely improved under Tocchet but I don't see him ever winning a Selke like Kessler did. Ryan was a much better two way player, while Miller is more of a pure goal scorer.
Kesler ur a beaut and a Canuck forever
Did not expect to sit here bawling my eyes out at 8 in the morning but here we are.
Vancouver loves you, Kes.
🔥🔥🔥 - great interview... tough at times hearing about the end but cool to hear he's watching the Canucks and still cheering 'em on! Hearing about him coaching his kid and that bringing back his love for the game is awesome too! Others have mentioned it too but it would be really cool if the Canucks get him involved for Game 1 or something somehow. Go Canucks Go!
Great to see RK open up about those challenges - for me he was the heart of that team.
Love those players from that era and they don't bash Vancouver. Good to hear they are still great Vancouver fans
KES! Loved having him on the Canucks and the absolute beastly tear he went on in that Nashville series is legendary.
2011 Kesler in today’s game would be a playoff beast.
What a wonderful, honest interview with Kes. As a former hockey player (obvs not the same level) who had the game taken away due to injury I feel for Kes. Hope we see him featured at a game!
We love you kesler!!! You are still part of vancouver!
Still have my Kesler Canucks jersey and wear it proudly
RYAN!! That was such a GREAT listen. I really enjoyed the wild ride that was "Watching the Playoffs with Ryan Kesler" a few years ago... with, if I recall, Eugenie Bouchard in attendance? Oh man... I don't think Sportsnet was prepared.
Anyway.. great to reminisce about Kesler's amazing series vs Nashville. We will be truly blessed if anything remotely similar happens this year for our team. We have a lot of incredible players this year, so I wouldn't put it past any number of our current Canucks to hulk-out and go "full Kesler", but the truth is... I am just going to enjoy whatever we get this year. I'm so proud of our team for everything they've done and I'm going in with zero expectations. Lots and lots of hope and drive and excitement, but I'm going to be smiling at the end of it whatever happens. The guys deserve that, this year.
great guest! Was smiling all throughout the interview =D
They were so fun to watch back then, those two years we won the presidents trophy were just amazing! can’t believe it’s been 13 years wow
This team can go as far as they dont let the pressure and emotions consume them
I hope the relationship between the fans & Kesler can mend quicker than it did with Bure. I think we’re off to a great start. It’s important to celebrate the pillars of this organization, even if their departure was 💩.
One word…beauty
That was an excellent interview!
He's just being humble. People are fast to say Miller is better but Kesler was the definition of beast mode. You can't blame them though since many have never seen playoff hockey. After a decade of never making the (real) playoffs they think regular season accomplishments are equal to playoff accomplishments. If Miller wins multiple playoff rounds over many seasons and continues to play responsible D for the rest of his career, then yes he'll be superior to Kesler. Remember, Kesler was never lazy on defense... ever. Compare to Miller who only now at 30 is making the playoffs with the Canucks.
It's also not fair to judge a player by the quality of the team and management that surrounds them. Many incredible players have deserved better than they accomplished in their careers because of who they played with, and for who. (But GREAT point about Kesler's backchecking... it was a huge part of his game!)
Great interview, guys!!
I can’t wait!!!!!!
Canucks should sign Kesler to a contract for the playoffs
Kes has matured so much. Honestly, in my books, he's welcome back to Vancouver any time. I hope the organization does the right thing, signs him to a one-day deal so he can retire a Canuck, and put him in the RoH.
Hell ya Kes, send that energy to Miller, maybe he can put this team on his back like you did in 2011 against the Preds.
Miller = Kesler 2.0
I’m going to be wearing my Kesler jersey in Nashville on Sunday!
Love Kes.
Beast
THE GOAT KES
Doesn’t get much better than that
More Kesler!
It was good to see Mr. Cranky again (aka Captain Silver)
It was just heart breaking to watch the clip that recorded the moment when his hip died on him. We would have taken cup for sure if that had not happened.
Preds were NO joke in 2011. They are certainly not to be underestimated in 2024.
Look to Lindholm to tip the series in our favour.
Should all other players play to their par, Lindholm will tip the scales.
💙💚
Kesler with a redemption arc
Will never forget the third period of game 7 against Boston. THE ENTIRE TEAM gave up, besides Kesler.
KES
Where does Kesler live now?
what kind of title is this
Kesler needs to be im the roh at rogers
Preds got their revenge on Kesler in 2017 in the WC finals against the Ducks.
I wish they would have touched the point where his hip died on him. I wonder if he would talk about it?
Does he not have ring of honor?
hey Alexa play where the streets have no name
He said Lapierre right and then corrected to the wrong name Laperriere lol
Kesler cant even open his own water bottle....
You're alright Kes. Can't blame you for bailing during the shit show years
American supporting americans who woulda guessed...
Not his fault the teams got no Canadians, lol. You think he's gonna call out Soucy, PDG, and Friedman?
Did kesler really bang cory Schneiders wife
Canucks should have kept Kessler and traded the Sedins after 2011
guy has 1 good playoff and is still riding that. LOL
What a stupid comment. He should ride that, he was incredible that year and we will always remember how dominant he was vs Nash.
Troll comment. He was consistently one of the best two way forwards in the league. They don’t make them like Kes anymore.
@@Ng33136 i feel like Canuck fans overrate him because of that one playoff series thats all. Not questioning his heart or intensity. so not trolling
He won the selke that year. Only 27 players in history have that trophy. Wasn't just one play off at all.
It was THAT good. Sit in awe of his accomplishments.
