IMPORTANT: I had to trim out copyrighted parts so there's about 3 minute of footage gone but it's still fine. Also, the undefeated fighters in this video are at least 7-0.
Glad you highlighted Tatsuro Tiara and he is really promising; but your REASONING (on his advancement up the ranking).... was not a sound one.
At the UFC, as you move further up the ranking ---- especially close to or inside the Top 5 --- elite striking is more superseding than elite BJJ. And I don't mean pure elite striking without any wrestling or BJJ or pure BJJ or wrestling without any striking, etc. (A bit more below. But, first...)
I don't know any thing Tsuruya, the other Japanese prospect who's not even at UFC fighter)... But there's one you missed, who is MORE promising than even Tatsuro. That guy's name is Rinya Nakamura.
Rinya already is further along in the stand-up department, compared to Taturo.
But his strongest skills are Judo and Greco Roman, plus BJJ. That means push comes to shove, he WILL take his opponent down without much problems. What's more, unlike the skinny Tatsuro, Rinya has a Michael Morales (the Ecuadorean you also featured here) physique.
ANYWAY... on your take on Tatsuro... as to why I think was NOT a very sound one, for Top 5 fighters and up (which is where all fighters are aiming for): ---- If your striking is only okay or sub-par, inside the Top 5, you likely WILL NOT become champ, even if you have elite BJJ.... against guys you WOULDN'T easily take down or sub but guys with superior striking to you.
Ideally, you need to make ONE movement, as an elite striker, and your opponent is out cold.
As an elite wrestler and/or elite BJJ guy, ideally, you WILL STILL HAVE TO HAVE 2 MOVES.
THAT, again, is why close to 90% of the UFC's champs are STRIKER-ORIENTED ELITES, not BJJ or Wrestling oriented ones.
Today, 2024/25, a UFC champ is someone with at least "very good" skills in at least 2-3 major areas of MMA and an actual elite in 1-2 other areas (usually the craft he/she grew up doing since they're very young)...
Leon (striking-based elite/champ) and Islam (wrestling-based elite) are good examples; and both could also do the other guy's craft at very high degrees, even if not exactly as good as the other guy. I will talk only about Islam, for now: ----
Islam is probably the most well rounded fighter at the UFC: at this point, very few guys will out wrestle him or out maneuver him in BJJ plays (in MMA, even if not at the ADCC, etc). But, again, unlike Khabib and other next level wrestler, Islam's Muay Thai/stand-up also is approaching elite. He may not be exactly as good as, say, Dustin in pure stand-up/boxing; but he's likely 95% to 98% as good....
THAT MEANS Dustin WILL HAVE TO KO Islam in the very first few exchanges of their fight.... or he WILL BE, 100% certitude, TAKEN DOWN and subbed soon after.
But Islam could just as readily hurt Dustin in a stand-up exchange; that's how good/comfortable Islam has become in the stand-up department. And the THING that makes elite strikers AFRAID to freely swing at Islam is that IF YOU MISS, you are GOING DOWN 100% for sure; and on the mat, Islam is a LEAD BLANKET over you! He doesn't even have to use the FENCE like Khabib, to keep you on your back. It could be in the middle of the octagon, but if Islam is on top of you, you aren't getting up... because his POSITIONAL CONTROL (position over submission) skills are so elite, you simply can't out maneuver him from your back.
Yes, Dustin has a black belt in BJJ....
But the chances of him subbing Islam is close to zero ---- forget about taking Islam down, which is stupid to start with, too ---- unless he hurts Islam really bad with a punch first (like what Islam did to Charles). And, even then, it would still be hairy for Dustin to go down on top of a momentarily stunted Islam. (An out-cold Islam doesn't need anyone jumping on top of him, it goes without saying...)

Man I really wanted to read this whole thing but it just got dumber n dumber, most of the champions are wrestlers that developed really good striking as they progressed into the ufc. Pure striker vs pure wrestler, wrestler wins 7/10 times. And nakamura is dogshet he’ll get finished by any half decent ufc fighter. You making out like nakamura striking is elite and he would beat tatsuro in a fight. Bruh nakamura be knocking out asians who don’t even guard there face😂

This isn't boxing, good prospects should be fighting other good prospects. Having a win to someone who is one of the best prospects in your weight class isnt a bad look and MMA fans should push for these fighters to prove themselves, not be pushing to have more undefeated records. Van vs Tiara is a good matchup and thats how it should be.
Agreed. Someones O gotta go. No gatekeeping. But on the contrary the ufc sometimes takes too long too push these younger prospects. Some fighters on the top ranked stay there with high inactivity which imp is not acceptable

Taira shouldn't be fighting Van though. Van is unranked, Taira should be fighting someone higher up, especially since the division is stale as fuck right now.
@@Duncle0 And they both were until both their opponents pulled out, there is no point to wait a couple more months and go through a whole new fight camp when they are both ready to go. Now we can see them actually test each other, and we can get the prospects being active instead of just waiting for an opportunity to come up.

What’s crazy is that back in the day 10-15 years back some of these guys records in the UFC would’ve had them fighting for title shots and now it’s a top 15 (maybe) type of record. Never saw that happening over time.

issue with chime is the gas tank and the fact begets sloppy with his strikes in r2. if rob remains composed and survives r1 he should be able to establish success in 2 (cos lets be real khamzat will get 1 takedown least in r1), if it goes 3 rounds I reckon that's it for khamzat in the fight, rob can get wild but its always semi technical and in a way that counters wild swinging, using his blitzes. close fight but you have to go with Whittaker, he's never been subbed in the ufc and I believe in general and that's basically khamzat main way of getting him.
Allen's knees weren't against the rules since Evloev kept putting and removing his fingers on the mat.
Mma is a sport where you CAN lose but NOT be boring, especially in ufc.
I believe all these fighters should not think too much of their records but more if they are exciting and finishers. Especially those with less fights. This video showed a lot of fighters with great records but no pushes to top ranked or championship fights.
Ilia and Movsar are a great comparison. One with a worse record is a champion because he was pushed earlier thanks to being an exciting fighter. While Movsar just lurking around the ranked fighters and not really being pushed or marketed.
If you aren’t the best you might as well be the most entertaining because you’ll at least have a larger fan base than most of the ufc champs

I do have to say I do disagree with what you said at about 10:35 I would definitely prefer Elliot vs Taira but Tatsuro fighting Van isn’t really a bad thing. Like we saw guys like Connor and Holloway, Porier, Izzy fighting Vettori early as well and all rose to be stars
