This comment was written on 28th February 2022. Russia has invaded the Ukraine and the President of Russia has threatened the west with the use of nuclear weapons. This song was was written in 1984 and released in 1985 and is now more relevant than ever before. If you are reading this in the future and we survived this period, just be grateful of your life.
It is now 12.03.2022 , Ukraine is still fighting, refugees are hosted by neighboring countries, civilians were not created safe passages to get out from certain cities. Red cross and various associations are raising founds and trying to send supplies into Ukraine. Sanctions against Russia have been imposed with no outcome and a total number of 4 failed negotiations have been held so far. Let’s hope we can go back to read these comments in the future. I remember the UK government sent out a pamphlet to every household telling us what to do in a nuclear war. We were weeks away from World War 3 with Russia and nuclear destruction. You are so right. There are new generations who've no idea what this song really means because they did not go through that time. My dad was a senior official in the Pentagon in the early-mid 80s and he told my sister and I that we did not need an evacuation plan because we would not survive the first missiles.
