- Another day in the life of an over the road trucker. We had some terrible trailer issues that were only nuisance problems but took so many hours out of my runtime. 13 to be exact. So with the lack of a good complete repair to the trailer and several partial repairs we were left with only a few options.
Dodging scales and taking backroads was my choice, not just to avoid the DOT but also to take in the adventure you can find along the back roads. There were so many cool places we stopped on this trip that we wrapped them up in a separate video that will come out soon. From ghost towns to national parks, there is so much you can miss by just taking the interstate route.

Love your videos kiddo, 70 years old and just retired after 32 years on the road. Good luck and be CAREFUL out there, it's a crazy dangerous world. I always carried a gun with me but a good alternative for self-defense, was a can of Wasp killer from Lowes, 14-foot spray which will clear a crowd in a hurry if necessary.
39 years of driving I was based out of Tucson. December of 2019 I was in Washington state I became severely ill. I deadheaded back home immediately went to the VA found out I contracted Covid. I decided to retire and started collecting my retirement. The only thing I miss about trucking is cruising the open highways. I do not miss the harsh winters. I have opened up the map on my bucket list and enjoying the places I’ve been over the years of trucking so I can spend more time and enjoy the sites.
Going by the VLA facility is definitely awesome. Thanks for taking us there👏‼️👏
I started trucking 46yrs ago! I kept telling myself just one more year, eventually 45yrs came n I retired, last yr! I miss driving but none of the bad weather, nor unsafe drivers! Most of my truckings been O/OP but I did company for the last 9yrs as a tanker yanker hauling milk 🥛! Easiet gig of all...anyway just love your vids...keep on truckin n hang in there Shelby ♥️ ❤️ ~Stargazer~

Man, I wish I had that sort of routing freedom when I was OTR.
There is a disc golf and also the Origin of Smoky Bear on 380 east of Carrizozo NM. disc golf sites are good for walking even if you don't play. Hopefully the trailer is fixed and not just sent right back out. Too often they just get sent back out because it is needed and does not get fixed. Stay safe and healthy.

Hey Shelby, you don't need a flashlight to check if your truck has fizically hooked up to the semi-trailer. Here's a good tip that will save you some time at coupling: when you backed up your coupler (fifth wheel) up to the max and when you feel that significant bump of the truck, put the gear box into ,,Drive" and start to gently press the acceleration pedal and into a interval of 7 to 9 seconds ingrease the pressure onto the acceration pedal and observe the nose of the truck; if it's going slightly upwars (like the whole truck it's leaning on the back) like the truck would like to go forward but it's kinda holded up by it's back then you"ll know that the semi-trailer it's fizically hooked up to the truck. To be very, very, VERY sure, you can repeat this procedure one more time (the acceleration pedal thing). May the force be with you and safe roads. oh, by the way, i really like that you've bought that electric pot. Going on a path of healty food it's the proper way. I'm spending most of my time in a vehicle lately and have really enjoyed it. It's so important to remember the constraints you don't have. You're not stuck in a cube you're not in an office you're not arguing over Petty things with people who want to have a desk that is closer to the coffee machine than yours. You get to experience the outdoors. Remember it's really not about the trucking it's about experiencing the outdoors while somebody else pays for the fuel. It's free RV

As for the actual video footage. Usaully good stuff. I recall how in the early days you would show lots of landscapes etc... This video was the same I think. I liked the night overhead drone shots. The truck looked like some tiny video game avatar, slowly flashing as it moves thru dark space. (the backing was fine, really) I am surprised you take all those 2-land backroads!! I would totally freak out because Im always in a hurry and I am afraid I will end up on some dead end moutain top with my 53' trailer. Your videos are well edited and you only show the choice shots. When I watch a slow Colorado sunrise and hear the slow slide on the guitar....I feel the tranquility that you bring forth in your films. Great stuffs. For sure. With all this technology we have, you think sooner or later some of the truck manufacturers would think about how many drivers like to cook in the truck. Point being I've always wondered how much longer it will be before they start putting in water bulk tanks with hot and cold water and a sink, that way it will make clean up a lot more easier.
There are. They are called condos. ( mainly teams ( mini kitchens , showers toilets) like a mini studio apt. You'd be amazed. 25 years driving myself.

Check out this instant pot roast recipe, I made this so many times while rolling down the road, the smell in your truck will drive you crazy, it's SO good 😂
Cut up a 3-ish pound roast into pieces about 2-3 bites big, it cooks a lot faster that way.
Add 1/2 of a carton of beef stock, a bag of little potatoes, a bag of baby carrots, a packet of McCormick pot roast seasoning, a bunch of Montreal steak seasoning, minced garlic, 1 Tbsp better than bullion roasted beef and some thyme. Cook on high pressure for 1hr 15 minutes. Definitely going to need containers for leftovers. I drive local now and this is still my go-to roast recipe at home. It'll cook while you're rolling and it tastes like you spent all day in the kitchen 😁😁

Missed you. Enjoyed watching this one, I shivered watching you out in the wind and cold. Reminded me of the years I drove up and down the I-15 corridor and dealing with those dreaded canyon winds that the Wasatch Front used to get every winter. Retired now and gave up my CDL a few years ago. I don't miss being out in the cold! Keep on going Girl! Oh, if you're ever in northern Cache Valley, the best place to eat in Preston ID is just 15 miles south, LD's Cafe in Richmond UT. Preston mostly sucks for eateries. Give Dakota an extra hug or three!

Alot of semi's are prohibited on the backroads because the wires hang down to low and truckers could get their truck stuck in it. When my dad drove a truck when he was at a restaurant he pulled down a wire because his truck was to big.
