    People are always asking me how I moss my cabin roofs. Well, wonder no longer! Here are all my "trade secrets." Spoiler Alert it's pretty easy and you can definitely do it yourself!

    You should never put the screw in the valley of the corrugated iron, it’s more likely to create a leak in your roof. Only install your screws on the high ridge of the iron.

      @@dimitrisl9085 he probably won’t untill the screws wear out🚫, it’s more likely bc the water travels down the valley. Not really that much worse though unless the roof will be holding water. Their pitches seem like it won’t be that much of a difference if any.

      Any tradesman who screwed custom orb of like you did in the valley, isn’t a tradesman. Even over screwing on the ridge can leak.

    Putting the chicken wire under the screw gasget leaves a small opening for water to leak. Another sealer should be used in conjunction of the gasget.

    Dude you would have been the best teacher teacher to get in school for sure!
    Keep the tutorials coming man, so well explained & you keep it light..Wish your channel existed when I built an off-grid cabin near Whistler 4 years ago..pretty crazy actually I just finished your 'Art of Visuals' podcast & your cabin building start up summarizations sounded like such a similar journey..Anyways I've been working on a travelling action sports/design studio School Bus Conversion..Last year we hit 5 states & raised money for conservation while skiing, surfing, filming etc.....Maybe this year when we roll through the PNW our team of stand up lads can help ya prop a wall up or hit up a surf!

    My favorite thing is your drama and dramatic pauses, ("it's just resting" pause...) special effects (green tinge on ur face & the hexagon effect in another video) and humor (wind & rain simulation, etc...). It reminds me of Neil Patrick Harris' delivery ...
    Pretty sure I'll never employ the practical knowledge you share but I enjoy these videos regardless. Altho I do love geometry , esp sacred geometry. Your groovy doors and the constellation woodwork at desert cabinland are amazing.

    Moss is a Forest sponge - good Choice, especially in the Pacific North West! Looks very cool on the roof when it's finished too 🙂 Excellent job on the tutorial...it's like you used to be a teacher.

    How does the roof look like after one year? Did the moss survive? You definitely need the right moss for your conditions (sunny or shadow, moisture, soil, etc)

    Hey thank you so much for this video! We live in Germany trying to build up a similar project like you did with cabinland but of course here everything is much more complicated with all the building regulations and stuff. Nobody shows you how to build a mossy roof with chicken wire here but now we know and we'll giv it a try ;-)

    Mike Holmes says that the vapor barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation.... so, like, under the roof insulation. Moss roofing - very interesting!

    Beautiful but only one important question...doesn't this moss when it collects water, put a lot of weight on the roof rafters? Could that be a problem? I wanted to do this to my roof. Please answer. Thank you.

    I came straight here to say you need to put your screws in the hills of the corrugated, not the valleys. Unless you want a leaky roof

    How have the roofing screws that you used on the chicken wire held up to rain? I'm nervous about how well the gaskets hold when they are on the wire and not the flat surface of the metal roof.

    Zinc strips on asphalt or cedar shake roofs will keep moss or leichens from growing (it kills it) so how does your zinc plated sheetmetal roof not kill the moss?

    Question: I've always always wanted a moss roof on my house. If I wanted to add one on a preexisting house, should I remove prexisting shingles or should it be safe to add a metal-wire-moss top layer?

    I had to wait until 6:30 before he explained why he was putting moss on the roof. That should have been in the first 1 minute. Guys have to remember that nobody understands why you're doing something until you tell them or its a common occurrence. Putting moss on a cabin roof isn't a common occurrence.

      well the moss isnt put in for the purpose of protecting the roof its there for the look because they build woodland cabins. it just also happens to protect the metal. most of the people on this video are viewers of their channel and are watching because they already want to moss their roof.

    Regular chicken wire rusts. Expensive chicken wire or hardware cloth is galvanized. Just saying it will fall off your roof in a few years.
