  • MOSS - How to forage for moss, how to store moss, and how to care for moss.
    I have a confession … two actually.
    1. I love winter and
    2. I love to hibernate during winter.
I know it didn’t make sense to me for years. I’ve learned not to fight it and just listen to my body. Which usually means lots of quiet time and doing creative projects that bring natural elements inside. Moss is one of those exact things that I can bring inside and create a multitude of things that bring me joy and all winter long.
Today we’re out in nature and we're talking about one of my favorite topics and that's Moss. I wanted to share a bit of knowledge about this plant and show you how to I forage for it, how I store it, and how to care for it.
Coming…. Sunday February 9, 2020 - Garden of Eden Terrarium Video
I will use the moss I foraged to build a beautiful terrarium. I also share with you how to thrift for vessels to use for terrariums and how I put them all together to make a unique one of a kind terrarium with angle statue, flying birds and lights. If your intrigue stay tuned that’s coming next week.

I’m not sure at all if this is ethically ok to take moss like this, on such a large scale!… also I’m imagining of every person you have inspired to do the same. 😢can you see the great bare patches you are leaving behind, and imagine all the creatures that are using this as their own habitat. If everyone collected on this scale… you are all adding to an already declining natural habitat, if you love nature so much, like you say… how it brings you calm, then go visit the places,, sit in calm peace, then as we say here in the Uk …. Go home, and leave no trace

    do you like moss?

  • @carlonmarlon4850

In many countries, collecting moss from the forest is illegal. I do not recommend registering evidence about yourself. I grow several varieties of moss in my garden.

Mosses belong to the forest. I would not take that large pieces from nature. It is easy to take small pieces and grow them at home.

Even you don't see it, a lot of herbivore animal's food is based on moss, so next time think about and take less of it. thx!

Lovely video. I would not advocate for taking so much from one place though. It is slow growing. Please be respectful of nature’s gifts

A couple of those are lichens! very biologically different from mosses but just as exciting! If you haven't looked stuff up about them, I highly recommend it! They are a symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae/cyanobacteria, live in so many different and extreme environments, and have so many different forms.

Thanks for the information. I've literally never heard anybody talk so slow in my life and I had to speed the video up to 1.75 to even understand you and to not lose interest lol

When ever I see mosses now I’ll be reminded of words like serene, lovely and peacefulness. Thanks for sharing!

The puddle plant may be wild water cress. Really enjoy your creations. Taking notes. Its hard to maintain moss without the protection of a terrarium in Colorado as the air is drier.

I've got so many pictures of moss from my travels. There's something about the various mosses that I just love. Growing up, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents in the far north of the US. There were cedar swamps which kinda flood in the Spring and produce the most amazing moss everywhere. It's so thick and fluffy that you sink into it, even during the dry season. There's so much of it that when you're in there, sound gets absorbed quickly so it's eerily quiet, even for such a rural area. I'll have my ashes spread there when I die. Hopefully I'll become part of the moss.

You would love my yard! I’m trying to learn how to grow it on my steps and some boulders. It’s the only thing that’s making my yard look pretty right now. We have been homeschooling since day one. This year I decided to do botany. This week we are going to make a terrarium. I have a moss container I didn’t put down any of the shake but it’s been thriving in a box outside. I enjoyed this video, thank you!
