This is at least a more valid opinion on the topic than some of the other people throwing a tantrum over a 7 second clip, I don't blame LMG for the clip though, its just a friendly reminder and it helps the channels grow allowing them to produce better content in the future. Also, linus has staff and a family and the staff has family, thats a lot of mouths to feed from a couple of channels

If you only had four dollars in your account why would you be at an ATM the lowest I’ve ever seen them go it was in multiples of $10 but usually $20 so there would be no way to withdrawal four dollars out of your account

I ALWAYS cover my fingers with my other hand when entering my pin as an added bit of protection, it should make getting my pin even more difficult. I would also advise that if you think that there is something wrong with an ATM machine you should report it to a member of staff within the bank or even the police as other folks might not be as savvy and fall victim to these scammers.

try to avoid using ATM's that are outside as well. ones that are inside banks are the best as they have good security cameras keeping watch and sometimes security guards nearby (usually armed in most countries ive been)
true but its up in the air on if they have security watching them live or how often they check the tapes. when the ATM is inside its that added layer of security that may deter most. Really you should always be weary all the time because there are security videos of people installing these things super fast sometimes right in front of an employee without getting caught (by the employee not the camera)

also stay out of malls, shopping centers, grocery stores, some gas stations, and curve side kodis these places are not secure and you can get robbed. Banks, Casinos, some restaurants, and supermarkets have Eye in the Sky cameras so they are secure. If you don't know an ATM is safe don't use it.

1:10 I work for a “major well known bank” and I get calls daily about people confused how a thief drained their account from an atm when they physically have possession of their card
It’s a shame more security isn’t put in to protect people from these attacks
The card has an on/off program in your bank app. It is a VISA or other brand feature. I tell people all day as I take dispute intakes. I am not surprised you have never heard of it. It is quite effective.

Most people click away before the video ends, just as the sponsor spot starts. Therefore it would be useless as an outro because only about >20% of the viewers would actually see it. They put it at the front they have the chance to grab the newcomers. The only middle man option would be to change it into a mid-roll asset that appears in ie. the top right-hand corner, and instead of the voiceover, we'd have short text lines.
This was a great informative video..especially over the long weekend when skimmers are used ..

Brasil uses EMV chips for debit and credit cards for at least a decade, this is one of the main reasons this phone payment solutions (Android, Samsung and apple) have failed to be implemented here effectively. Edit: We also use thin glass cases with pink ink inside the atms wich break with any significant impact invalidating all the money in case of an break in attempt.
@HemolbetaNah, it's a shitty place, yes. But pretty much everyone have a smartphone and if someone kills you to steal yours will be with a Taurus gun and they won't take It unless it's at least a decent one, like a galaxy s20 or something like that.
@Hemolbeta Oh, and smartphone theft at gun point is not really that common, only places you really have to worry about it is in some regions of the southeast, northeast and north, the south and west regions have really chill places.
You should also add that many ATMs use a 'jitter' function when your card is inserted and released. You may notice it when your card is pulled in but it isn't smooth. The ATM knows the pattern for the stopping and starting and it is usually randomized for each card. This stops skimmers from being able to accurately read the magnetic strip.

This happened to me a few months ago. I lost 400$ from my card. I learned my lesson. Its very important to be careful with these things and the take precaution measures before using these machines
I always give a good wiggle to every ATM I use. I had my credit card info stolen for something less noticeable a wireless card reader(how I know all my cards reported transactions at the same time), so be careful buy a card holder that is wiresly skimming proof.

It's really a big business, the guys that I have met doing it are all living big and if I have their kind of guts I'd be doing it too, but going to the ATM to fix that shit scares the hell out of me😂 And if you see the tiny microchip doing this damage you'd be more amazed😅, and they have the device for all kinds of ATM😢

Another tip to prevent from being skimmed from your pin is to cover the number keys so the cameras cannot detect which numbers you are pressing.
This ofc does not help if the number keys are tempered with.

It also helps to investigate what your financial institution does to protect you. The bank I use has AI pattern recognition. If a purchase doesn't seem in line with your usual shopping habits. Such as in a different city or business or a larger than normal purchase, it sends you a text message asking if you made the purchase and you just text back a Y or N. If you text N, the purchase is flagged for further investigation and any purchases made with the card are closely scrutinized until the matter is resolved. Its a good feature to have if your purchase things on the Internet.
ATM = Automatic Teller Machine. You know, a teller being the person who works in a bank and performs bank transactions for you behind the counter.

As a formal ATM tech. Some ATMs has sensors in the card reader bezel. It’s to detect if there is something in front of it. If it’s covered, after several seconds to a few minutes, depending on settings. It will disable the ATM and call the police, the bank and the repair company. However, this was an option that the bank had to pay for, so not all banks have them.
Second, there is a new card reader out there where you insert the card the long way. It will take your card in, then “swipe” it for you inside. Since the magnetic reader can only read from short edge to short edge. There is no way a skimmer will work on this. As the orientation of the card is inserted. This was a fairly new feature a couple years ago, so maybe 10% of ATMs have it.
Thirdly, some of those major banks have only recently upgraded their software from Windows XP to Windows 7.

If you live in Europe a good thing to do is on your bank disable the use of your card on other countries or just America (most common place your card is used after skimming)

Kalle Laine You can’t use your card abroad anyway by default you have to tell the bank prior that you’re going out the country if you want to use cards abroad and tell them the dates from and till so their fraud software doesn’t decide it’s an unusual transaction and decline it cards will work that’s how it works in Europe certainly the UK I’ve had declined shop and cash machine transactions just using my card in another town or city then texts and calls to check it’s me so there’s certainly no concern about any of that.

Lots of places in the USA don't have chip readers still, so the track 1/2 info straight off the magstripe + PIN will be enough to clone the card and use at ATM. All you need is an MSR r/w which you can literally buy off Amazon pretty cheap to clone them. This information is for educational purposes only, don't do crime.
As someone who works inside the banking industry, specifically dealing with fraud on a regular basis in total honesty the best scamming method on a card that I see on a regular basis is someone goes to a restaurant or somewhere they give their card to say a server and said server just does a good old fashion rubbing of the card or takes a picture of it on their phone. Super easy to do and super easy to make a phony google account, link the card to it and go on a online shopping spree until the card gets blocked or frozen then rinse and repeat.

there is several other pieces of tech that is used to prevent skimming. Not only is there a camera monitored 24/7 on ATM's there is anti skimming devices installed. These things are very, very sensitive and even a piece of paper over them can set them off. But on top of this, it is actually (in Australia) becoming harder and harder to find an atm, as we are planning on becoming a "paperless society". The biggest security risk is the person standing a little too close behind them looking over there shoulder at their pin and then jumping you and stealing your card.

I haven’t used an ATM in a long time.... I just go to a cashier and ask for cash back....now the gas station is a different beast... I alway double check but where I go I hear that every 3 hours the employees check all their pumps and even have a log book entries to show the times they go so if it happens they can narrow the time it happened and compare on video then it happened.
In europe all atms use emv chip because its safer. Some banks even dont allow their users to use magstripe atms for safety reasons.

I get the idea behind EMV chips. but even in ATMs you still have to put your mag strip through the skimmer to use the chip on your card. until we completely get rid of mag stripes, or have different slots to use emv chips, they are still gonna get the numbers

Also I'd advise to have more than one accounts in a bank (current + savings). Keep only 1 account attached to your card. Transfer all the money to savings account (account with no card) and keep only the absolutely necessary in your current account. With e-banking apps you can easily transfer whatever amount you need to use at that moment.

My banks ATM in Czech has a non contact chip reader built in, Works like a charm
I make a habit of only trusting the bank ATMs. Never use any of the ones that pop up in gas stations, supermarkets or bars. Not only do you have to risk getting scammed (as seen in this video), they'll also charge you exorbitant fees ($2.50 - $4.50 per transaction) just to get your own money ( and that's on top of whatever fee your bank will charge you for not using one of their ATMs).
