    Great video man. I've been researching for these extenders all over and this seems like the most stable and easiest solution. One question. Why did you use 2 pieces for the top? Is it because you didn't have a wide enough piece of wood?

      Thanks man. That means a lot! I've been wanting to redo this video due to the quality. I had the deck boards laying around and just went with those but 1 piece would be better, and easier. I only needed 9" for my truck so that may have been a hard find. I should have stripped both boards for an even look, instead of 5.5/3.5 but it works. It has been a permanent part to the backseat since I did the video😄 The problem now is I need to make the dogs a step to get in.

      @@ShortnCocky let us know when you post the step video! ive been thinking about how to do it but it has to be at a slight angle because of the door which is odd

    I was just saying this to someone explaining I could do this in the back of the car for my dogs thinking I came up with my own invention , low and behold you have already done it 😀

    We tried the "store bought" backseat extenders and hammocks only to have them shredded and falling apart within months. This simple project saves money and will last a long time! Great with a DIY video, which don't require me being a skilled carpenter to do it. Heading to the workshop right now!

    Nice work. I got the tools. Might as well make it!! Thanks, guys!

    For those who want a simpler solution and don't have the tools then the folding PetDek is the answer. At 12 lbs and a 60 second install or removal it makes it easy.

    Thank you for this video! I've been looking for a simple, affordable and sturdy way to let my 3 dogs travel comfortably all at once, so one of them has to be in the backseat. I was thinking of buying one of those seat extenders, they look really handy but not very strong built. Also they seem very pricey for what it is! I think I'm gonna give a try at building one similar to this!

    My dog weighs 100 lbs and the “heavy duty” pet extenders are stupid expensive and would probably fall apart. This looks like a winner!

    Hi, do you endorse the use of dog seatbelts? Any pros/cons you’ve run into other than the obvious safety issue?

    • @ShortnCocky
      @ShortnCocky  Před 3 lety

      Good question. We do use safety belts. If an accident was to happen, I feel better knowing the dogs will not be projected from the vehicle. I think that is at the owners discretion though. The belts we use are just short bungee-leashes that clip into the original seat-belt buckles. Still allows for movement but would stop them from being thrown or jumping out of the windows. Sometimes they get tangled; is the only con I can think of.

    My dog limps after sitting on the back carseat and I really need to make him comfortable. Since I don't have any tool living in a city, and have a difficulty carrying wood to upstair apartment. Could I ask for you to make one for my service dog? I would like to pay for your work if you could let me know. Thank you.

      @ShortnCocky  Před 2 lety

      I'm pretty sure I have seen the one you are talking about or something like it. Hopefully, it works for you. I have very little faith in products these days- Not much is built to last. Even with lumber prices how they are, you could still build this for under $25. The 5/4 deck boards are overkill- same with landscape timbers but I had them. Depending on how fancy you want it you could even use something like fence pickets and 2x2, or 2x4s, and that would cost less than $20....maybe $15. Good luck & thanks for watching.
