Hi Adam, Fun bit of nautical jargon, used to build boats for a living, when you put a raised lip around a flat surface its called a fiddle. Typically used on the edges of countertops or tables to keep stuff from sliding around and going flying across the boat while underway (particularly on sailboats where heeling over is a major factor). On well built boats they are in fact usually removable with bronze sleeves in the surface and bronze pins in the fiddles to facilitate cleaning or on dinning tables if you need a big flat surface for laying out charts, etc.

When Adam said his teacher limited him to corrugated cardboard for the project, my first thought was that with corrugated cardboard, you can build any kind of prop that you want. I once built an entire city for my 3 and 3/4 G.I. Joe's. It had 4 levels that was around 4 feet tall, 3 feet wide, and from the back of the top piece, to the front of the bottom one, it was almost 7 feet. It had garages for the vehicles, and a way to get them from whatever level they were on to the ground level. There was a slide that could be used from each level. There was a stage, and cardboard instruments (I was big into every kind of music you could think of) for the figures to play. I never got around to painting it because we moved soon after I got it done, and it was too big to be able to move in one piece, but I could not separate the pieces. The one thing I over looked and it cost me my project. I had plans to build another one, but I was right at the age when G.I. Joe's took a backseat to driving around with friends, and girls. Unfortunately I also did not own a camera as cell phones were not really a thing yet, and my family was too poor to have a plain old camera. I have thought about building another city, but I am in my 40's, and my apartment is small. I still do have most of my Joe's though. So, who knows? Maybe someday I will get around to making that second city.

My first thought when I started to watch this was 'give the dog a head rest!'.. so I am so glad he did. And the fact the dog tax did eventually get paid is also worth it. I noticed two things, though. Maggie seems to walk all over the seats and back area, I assume the back area is fine but the other seat, is there no need to prevent her from going there? (Or is protecting the seats not a part of the reason you do this?) And the other thing was... why not put a pillow of sorts raising behind your seat? If you end up breaking suddenly, you want to make sure she had as soft a landing as possible. (You should probably put a soft pillow behind the back seats as well!) Dogs deserve protection, too!
I love how goofy you got over corrugated cardboard! It made me happy to see such ecstacy. And it was wonderful to see that you are nicely sloppy with Maggie. This was a really fun episode.
It looks cool but please just get Maggie a proper harness that connects to the seatbelt and a nice pillow to lie on! This contraption is not safe for either one of you.

Dear Editor doing the staple montages: Why do you hate yourself so much? (also, for what its worth, my 2 year old was dancing to the staple sounds so that was fun)
I dunno, I think Gunther might have had some fun cutting that bit together. I looked at that and went "yeah, this was definitely an editor/dp decision". If I had to cut that segment I might have tried to cut it to music, or have some parts dramatically speed up or slow down in terms of Staples Per Second.
I am hearing beautiful shades of the “Good Eats” backing music during some of the editing. Intentional or not it made me so happy to hear, during a video that was already making me happy. Right around 8:00 or so
How a person treats an animal tells volumes about their personality. Maggie is obviously very lucky to have a person like Adam as her human slave. LOL One thing that I do question about the build is how do you plan on cleaning the fabric after Maggie has gotten them dirty or mud covered?
You just get a harness that attaches to the seatbelt no worries. If the dog moves it will move with them, but if you stop suddenly the seatbelt kicks in. It's not a big deal.
If you want your dog to live through a car accident, yes you should. I am a veterinary assistant, and you would be surprised by how hurt an animal can get from just a minor fenderbender.
I absolutely LOVE the platform, just please be aware that the same dangers of not using a seatbelt for humans apply to dogs… when my dogs can't travel in the dog safe back of the station wagon I drive they each have their own harness and are strapped into a seatbelt buckle… When we were at a road trip through Germany (before adopting the youngest) it was a life saver for the eldest when we had to do an emergency stop from full speed on the freeway. She would have flown into the windshield had she not been buckled up!
The nailing/stapling time-lapses have the *exact* same energy as those videos of every time someone drops an F-bomb in a movie. "K-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk...*20 seconds of silence*...k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk-k-chunk".

For some time now, I have been trying to figure out how to make something like this for my own dog for my car. Thank you so much for the perfect video on how to do it and the easiest materials to do it with it!
May I just highlight a missed opportunity to sync the music to the motion of the moving swiss army knife in the background of the second time-lapse. That is all.

Hey @Adam Savage's Tested. Please, please don't drive with your dog like that. I know it's a lot less nice for the dog but animals should always be restrained while the car is in motion. In case of an accident the animal can turn into a missile that can cause great harm to itself, the driver or anyone else ivnolved in the accident. Not to speak of the fact that they can be a distraction while driving. This project is sweet and I understan the sentiment but it is dangerous if not reckless.
make a custom fit dog sized infant seat, because your kid(dog) should be held in a safe cage, not just walking around in your car. would you let your kid just walk around in your car? would you even let your friend who is the same age as you just walk around in your car? please stop this insanity.

That 17:48 Scottish alright made me chuckle, glad Maggie loves it and love to Maggie
Oh man, if he's making a K jacket from 2049 I would love to see that. Speaking of Denis Villeneuve movies, I look forward to Adam's inevitable stillsuit.
Adam absolutely fanboying over cardboard gives me life. Gosh, what pure joy in these trying times.
haha. seems like 5 lbs of staples later "it's secure!"
Adam, I love your videos because you have some wacky, amazing, sometimes unheard of ideas. It's entertainment in all senses of the word. I watch when I need cheering up or just some light and airy fun. Thank you for all of it.
adam getting excited about corrugated cardboard has made my day
It’s nice that you give us viewers Tips n tricks to make better projects. Keep up the good work
"Ooh! Someone's at the door" made me laugh!
Maggie seems like a lil’ sweetheart 🥰
Did anyone else flash to Mr. Mcfeely "Speedy delivery speedy delivery" after the door bell rang and Adam said "..there's someone at the door."?
Maggie's reaction to this one day build is one of the most wholesome things i've seen so far
Personal biased opinion here: she seems more oblivious to the new platform.
That might be true, but at the end she settles nicely on the side looking like "dis mah spot U.U"
It needed a staple counter though.
Art store...corrugated cardboard...pristine plane...endless possibilities? Yes Adam, yes!
if I ever meet adam, I’m going to ask him to sign a piece of corrugated cardboard
I am hearing beautiful shades of the “Good Eats” backing music during some of the editing. Intentional or not it made me so happy to hear, during a video that was already making me happy. Right around 8:00 or so
2020 Toyota Highlander Platinum for those wondering

How a person treats an animal tells volumes about their personality. Maggie is obviously very lucky to have a person like Adam as her human slave. LOL
One thing that I do question about the build is how do you plan on cleaning the fabric after Maggie has gotten them dirty or mud covered?
This was my Dogs favorite 1DB. He never watches TV but love this one. Thanks
aren`t dogs supposed to be fastened to the seatbelt or in a cage when the car is in movement?
Might not be a law in the US as it is in most (if not all) of europe.
Only if you live in a country ruled by fascists.
@@cjansson And by "most" you mean "less than a handful" (and the law is very rarely enforced in the nations where it does exist).
I love watching you get so exited about cardboard.
when he shot the staple i was so unprepared also you should check out the cordless dewalt nail gun i think you would like it
I think Adam perferes pneumatics for the shop.
And super basic safety: you don't load air tools while they are connected to air.
I absolutely LOVE the platform, just please be aware that the same dangers of not using a seatbelt for humans apply to dogs… when my dogs can't travel in the dog safe back of the station wagon I drive they each have their own harness and are strapped into a seatbelt buckle…
When we were at a road trip through Germany (before adopting the youngest) it was a life saver for the eldest when we had to do an emergency stop from full speed on the freeway. She would have flown into the windshield had she not been buckled up!
This dog car seat is more comfy than my bed lol
This is the cutest thing ever. Adam and his love for his dog is so heart warming
Adam:She loves to come forward and give me kisses in the ear
My brain: and than you have to brake and have Maggi slammed in to the windshield.
Not a fan of this. Got to be honest. As a voluntary firefighter, I have seen too many killed dogs (more than 100) even in harmless low speed accidents because they were not in a box. A dog is like a child. Nobody would leave a child unprotected like this.
we definitely need more dog related One Day Builds!

Thank you Adam, I really needed something wholesome today.
Can anyone explain why he keeps saying “hells bells margret” ? What is that from?
Im guessing he has seen the 1999 movie "The Insider"
Hells bells was a common 20th century phrase for anger or surprise, but the addition of Margeret possibly comes from a quote from The Insider (1999)
It keeps reminding me of M*A*S*H for some reason...
I would edit it so that the swiss knife is moving in real time Android only lower part is FFW.
The point about limitations is very true. It's easier to write a single brick than it is to write about an entire house, neighborhood, or city. Sometimes you need a limitation to give you a kick in the pants and get your creative juices flowing
Hello, my name is Adam, and I am the founding member of SA...
staples anonymous
In regard to rhe amount of staples incorporated into the build....just right. 😊
Adam: Oh! Staple gun does not have a safety!
Me: Adam where is your trigger discipline!?
Don't feel bad about making stuff off camera. Making is not only a fantastically personal experience but also one you can share. And that is your choice to make and enjoy. Thanks for sharing what you do!
Adam single handedly keeps the tool nail & stable manufacturing industry alive or at the very least, an entire factory 😂😂😂.
Great project.
make a custom fit dog sized infant seat, because your kid(dog) should be held in a safe cage, not just walking around in your car. would you let your kid just walk around in your car? would you even let your friend who is the same age as you just walk around in your car? please stop this insanity.
Can I leave extra thumbs up for Maggie? She’s so sweet!
And now, over to Adam for another episode of 'Shop Safety'......
Like "Don't load air tools while they are connected air. And...aimed at your face."
Adam savage. You are the only person i know of who flips out over corrugated cardboard. Lol . KEEP BEING😁😁😁 AWESOME!! 🤣🤣🤣🤓🤓🤓🤓
