- The purpose of soaking and sprouting is to decrease the amount of phytic acid found in beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and grains. Plants produce phytic acid as a defense mechanism but when we consume large amounts of this plant compound it can interfere with important micronutrient absorption. Remember, we are what we absorb, not what we eat!

If you have any plants, you could water them with all of the water you use to rinse seeds.
Oh that is such a great idea!!!! Thank you!
@@AmandaLi is phytic acid okay for plant watering?
@@commonconservative7551 When seeds sprout, phytate is degraded and the phosphorus released to be used by the young plant.
@@AmandaLi Wow! I am so interested in that faucet! Can you let me have some brief information about it? Thanks.
I sprout broccoli seeds never tried pecans or sunflower seeds
Eating uber healthy for decades; I know about the benefits of sprouting, but haven't started. Very detailed and easy-to-start instructions & I'm rinsing and soaking walnuts, flax, and chia seeds tonight. Thank you vm for the time spent studying and recording this info for us!!!
Used to sprout wheat berries for my whole wheat & honey bread recipe at a bakery I worked at. Delicious & crazy good for you. Came across a store bought seed bread loaded with sprouts & dried fruits as well. Some of the most amazing bread Ive ever had in my life. Dense & sweet & very good for you.
Sounds wonderful, can you share the name of the bread or the store where it's sold?
Excellent resource. Thank you so much for sharing this comprehensive video. Will use it for my patients.
Excellent and detailed! Great information and seeing it in action is valuable!
This is the best explanation on CZcams ❤ Thank you!
Thank you for explaining this process. ❤️
This is an excellent video with so much good information. Thank you so much.
Wow! So helpful and versatile advice. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You’re so intelligent and I haven’t sprouted seeds in years!
great explanation (and a very inspiring video)-- thank you, I am going to give it a go.
Love it love it thanks starting to soak my legumes and nuts more and definitely ready to get into sprouting and dehydrating
Thank you for this very interesting and thorough explanation.
Thanks so much Amanda I learned a lot!
YOu have no idea how much this helped me. Thank you so much!
A lot of really great info, thank you!
Great video thank you for responding to comments
I didn't even know you we're supposed to soak or sprout your nuts and seeds I'm so glad I took the time to do the research love this thank you ❤️
@Anna Meredith What's you're point 😂😂
@Anna Meredith I've done more research than just this why do you care very weird 😂😂😂 stop worrying about other people and stick to yourself there was no reason for you to comment that. You should give to shits less if I care about my health lmao I don't know you
Hi and thank you for this great video. Love it, "Relish every bite"😊❤
Thanks for sharing, so excited to sprout things and make my own salads in this cold winter. I've already started fenugreek & lentils 😊
Thank you..
That was awesome
Thank you! Great video!
Great video my dear! Thank you 👍🏼😘
That's another fine mesh you've got me into
Nice demo!👍👍
this was super informative, thank you!!!!
a closer look at the soaking / fermenting process of flours for nutrient availability would be sweet,
and the soaking and sprouting of grains and beans too.
Ive been confused on if i need to close lid/warm area ferment beans / grains / nuts to break down nutrients, or if soaking them with either salt / ACV and water overnight is enough.
also wondering what the difference between ACV and salt is...
and what works best to ferment, and what works best to sprout
any insight you have is much appreciated!
Hi thank you for this video it makes understanding how to sprout easy. 🥰😊🥰
So cool…thank you so much!
Thank you!!!
Love your Videos!
Awesome!! thank you! 💨💨💞💞🌱🌱
Great presentation and information
Thank you, Amanda! So many people are teaching sprouting all wrong. Lol! I love your simple nethod. One question: at about 6:40 (?) you state that the "enzymes die off." Do you have a source for that? How long does it take for the enzymes to die off? Thanks again.
Clearest and cleanest video on the subject I have seen. Thank you so much!
Now I finally got the info on how to make my diffucult life much more easier. I need a jar with legs. Anyway, she is full of energy and looks amazing so I need to follow her diet.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great info! Can you sprout in the fridge?
Thank you
Great video. Thanks. Other than water that many people already said how to save and reuse for plants, I would suggest using some darker and thicker cloth or even place in paper bag or wrap in aluminum foil to avoid light. That cheesecloth bag is not keeping light out of the seeds 😉
Tq . lovely video
I watched until the end to make sure you got full credit for my view! I decided against buying this about sixty percent of the way through. Muller's mandolin is the bomb for cooking onions but cutting safety gloves are recommended.
Thank you. I'm growing food from a garden and also sprouting. Wanting to grow Microgreens also.
Wonderful fresh and concise just like a sprout!😊
Great way to explain this!!! Do you have a link for the sprouting lids? Thx
Search amazon! Sprouting lids
Thank you so much
Great breakdown !! Wish the blue plastic was metal.
Thank You
Thank.you
❤ thank you ❤
Suprised you didn’t discuss adding apple cider vinegar to the water soak to draw out more physlic acid
Ok so after you sprout can you quickly freeze them for meals in advance? Should you worry about bacteria? I've heard sprouts are notorious for getting bacteria in them.
Hello friend, I came to your video already in agreement that I should at least soak my dried grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes but I don't understand sprouting them then drying them. I worry their nutrition would be lost by drying them. Thanks for this video.
soooo informative, thank you and you are lovely!!
Where can you buy the bottles please . Thank you !!!❤️✌🏽🌹😘
Hi! May I know what is the name of the lid or the mason jar? Do you have the link for your Maison jar with the mesh lid for sprouting?
Hi! I've been searching the internet looking to buy bulk seeds and beans for sprouting and I can only find a little bags with a few ounces. May I ask where do you get your seed/nuts in bulk?
great sharing
Where did you buy that blue lid jar you used?
Thanks..question if I need to save or reuse rinse water will drinking it hurt me. Should I boil it first? Thanks
Thank you! Super informative and well explained! I have 2 questions:
1. Can the water you soak and rinse in cold water, like 1°C- 3 °C? Or does that ruin them or just prolong the process?
2. Can I consume most of these after they are sprouted? Or do I have to cook them?
If not all, which ones do I have to cook?
Thank you!!
How long should I load sesame n does sunflower seeds take same amount to soak as pumpkin seeds prepared for dehydration?
I’ve had problems with mold growth on my sprouts which has turned me off from sprouting. Any suggestions for that?
Hi thanks f the info can u please tell me if I can cook the sprouts don't really like raw I'm diabetic ❤
I buy sprouted rolled oats. I'm trying to figure out if I still need to rinse and soak them if they're already sprouted?
I want to sprout anything that will sprout. I want to do this for my chickens (4) ...lol, during the winter months. They are free range, and I'm sure they miss their greens. Thank you.
Do you soak the seeds and nuts on the counter or in the refrigerator?
Hi thank you so much for the breakdown of this, it’s a lot of information. Question: why do you dehydrate for example the lentils? Is it to extend the shelf life?
Yes, the dehydrating is simply to increase storage time or to dry it out if you want a crispy product (think nuts), or to grind it into flour.
@@jeanniewahine5443 ok thank you
How long do you dehydrate walnuts ?
What about chia seeds and flax? The water gets jelly consistency do I throw out the water and then add new water?
Where do you purchase those large jars?
Is there a reason to sprout in a dark? I always sprouted my broccoli seeds in a light.
Gosh. For a second, I was confused as to whether this was pretense or reality. I knew it was real when I saw you do it, but I still can't be certain if they are real mung beans or pretend ones. One thing I never doubted though, you are a real woman, as am I. I got a nice laugh out of this video. A much needed one. Seems we need to be on guard lest we lose touch with reality with all that is being said and done in our world. Thanks for the video.
Why is the initial rinse step done? Isn't the follow-up rinses enough?
Hi, great video!
I used to sprout in a tray until I came across sprouting jars and get myself a set. I started off with mung beans and watercress. First one was a success , but the latter I have issues with, because of how gelatinous wAtercress becomes after soaking. Have you even done it that way? It’s been already 3 days they are soaking and I’m about to throw them out. I wonder if you have any tips for that.
Also, do you keep your nuts and seeds in the fridge at all times? I was reading somewhere that they should be kept in cold(regardless whether processed in any way or not).
Cheers!
I haven’t had luck with gelatinous seeds, but a sprouting chart I read recommended not soaking them. Just put a layer in a tray and spray them with water a couple times a day and cover them with a towel or something. I tried to sprout flax seeds by soaking them and as soon as the roots appeared they got mouldy.
Where do you get Yr seeds and nuts frm as mine don't sprout think they are GM but not sure, theses days unless you buy well most thing don't sprout, can you please help. Thanks. All the very best frm England
It's been proven the seeds don't have to be in a dark place they sprout just as quickly in the light!
Can I freeze them for a while before I boil it or boil then freeze
What are the seeds that we can sprout and safe to eat raw or cooked? Is it okay to sprout pinto beans, black beans, white beans and lentils ?
I feed completely raw to my dogs. I started years ago and began feeding sprouts to them as well. I feed 10% of their raw food as sprouts. Who is a dog guru in sprouting? I have many questions and need a canine sprout guru. Lol
Great video!
Does soaking overnight make Brazilian nuts soft? I want to mix Brazilian nuts with Cottage Cheese but my nut grinder just broke. Which turns out to be good thing, otherwise I wouldn't get to know why soaking is necessary.
What happens if you left jar on window and didn't put it in s dark location. Why is a dark location needed?
What is the food safety on these?
I've been searching everywhere but i can't find an answer.
Will soaking remove water soluble vitamins like B vitamins? If so is there any other way to remove the antinutrients while not removing the vitamins?
So if you were stranded on a island and the sprout packages also survived all one could Eat for life would you live and survive ?? including all the things you need to grow them also was there for you . ??
Can you just eat the mung bean sprouts raw? That’s what I’m looking to do is eat raw for salads and different dishes. And do you need a weight to make them thicker?
Can soaking help with lectin and oxylates?
Hi, great video! How does it work if you want to make chia pudding if you have to soak the seeds?
chia seeds will not soak without becoming gelatinous, which is what makes them so good for chia pudding.... so they would not be a good choice for this. sunflower seeds, for example, would be a better choice.
@@dianebassett1930 I was just researching this! They say chia seeds can be sprouted if you have terracotta plates to place them on (terracota plates sit on top of a glass baking dish with some water). But for starters, I'm sticking with mung beans and quinoa.
As far as sprouting chia seeds, think ch-ch-chia. The Chia heads are for sprouting chia seeds. My chickens love chia sprouts. They didn't like lentil sprouts.
For my chia sprouts, I bought regular chia seeds and just followed the directions for the chia head. I placed it in a sunny window. In a week I had great sprouts for my chickens. I enjoy a few of them my self.
Very cool
How long can I soak the flaxseed?
Good info
Glad it was helpful!
I live in Washington State where the state flower is mold and mildew. Any issues with these beauties or does the twice daily rinse with that tap water (mine is chlorinated, not chloramine) prevent this from happening?
Don't use tap water
I've tried adding a little vinegar when I rinse them, which might prevent mold and it didn't kill my sprouts. You could also try refrigerating them. I'd suggest giving them at least a few hours at a warmer temperature to kickstart the seeds then putting them in the fridge while they grow. I just saw a video from Power Plant Body and he refrigerated his chickpeas and quinoa throughout the process so they wouldn't go bad.
@@blackmber, I fail to sprout chickpea and quinoa many times , but now I know why(I sprout them inside a cabinet, and they get rotten), I will try again, thanks for your share.
old stale beans etc. don't sprout very well?
About soaking …. I Saw in other sites that salt, baking soda, lemon or even apple cider vinegar Can be added for better soaking…. Your advice on this please
Anything you sprout can be eaten raw, correct? You say here only broccoli and alfalfa
Do seeds such as chia, hemp, and flax need soaking?
I was curious whether there is a list of seeds somewhere which indicates which seeds must be cooked
or not and whether you need to "shell" them or not after sprouting ? I ask because I got pretty
confused when I saw some videos of people using sprouted millet when previously I had found information
indicating that millet must be hulled before consumption as the hull is not edible and as far as I understand you
can't sprout a seed unless it is whole i.e. sprouted millet is with hull.
I'm not aware of any lists like that, but you are correct in that any grain/seed that has been hulled won't be able to be sprouted!
@@AmandaLi even if a seed has been hulled, meaning it cannot be sprouted (like, say, a hulled sunflower seed), does it benefit at all from the rinse/soak cycle? So if I buy hulled sunflower seeds, would I want to rinse/soak and then dehydrate? I think so but would appreciate your confirmation.
If you have some seeds already, I would suggest soaking a small amount to see if they will sprout. Some seeds (like split lentils) will begin to sprout even with the hulls removed, and sometimes gardeners will intentionally remove shells or hulls of seeds to make them sprout faster. You may also find that the hull softens or falls off after sprouting, and you will be able to rinse them off or eat them. Only if the seeds are roasted/toasted, crushed or ground they will definitely not sprout.
Is much nutrition lost during the soaking process?
Is it ok to re soak sprouted nuts?
Why do you rinse? Before soaking?
I tried the red beans but it went bad I don't why!
Is it safe to soak Brazil nuts and kidney beans?
