- A multimeter is one of the tools every RVer should have with them. It’s the tool you’ll want to have with you anytime you diagnose an electrical issue in your RV, your tow vehicle, and your home.
In this video we’ll show you why you want to check the power at the pedestal before you hook your RV up. And we will walk you through exactly how to do it. 50 Amp, 30 Amp or 20 Amp is no problem, we’ll cover them all plus show you a few other tools you may want to add to your bag.

A multimeter is definitely a great tool. -Michelle
It sure is!
Another very informative vlog, have always wondered how to use a multimeter, now I know how.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful! And there is SO much more a multimeter can do. This just scratched the surface.
Helpful video - thanks for posting!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Good and informative video. Always good to safeguard your equipment. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Curiosity question (as I up my game with some new testers). Is it ok to use my EMS as a test? I typically plug it in and let it go through its checks before I plug in, but I also do this after I disconnect and start setting up.
Either way, is that not a preferred method for checking?
The EMS is one way to go. It should catch any bad stuff before damage to the trailer, but it may be at the expense of the EMS (in really bad cases).
Do you ever check your generator?
Ours has a digital readout built in, but you could check the outlets on a generator in the same way shown in the video.
