    Forgot an important little detail about Bucephalandra. Buce is an epiphyte which means it grows by attaching to rocks or wood. it is important to not plant the rhizhome in the soil or it can end up killing the plant. For details on how to plant it check out this video!

    Growing buce for 2 years with no co2. It still isn't too much bigger than I originally got it. Beside the one with the best lighting. Grows a leaf every week. For me good experience is good lighting and let the roots get inside the substrate. If I do CO2 it'll be a lot bigger.

    • @KalemsFishtanks
      @KalemsFishtanks  Před 2 lety +1

      For sure! Once it gets the roots in the substrate it seems to really start taking off

    Very interesting and informative!! I always considered that buce grew at substrate level... I'm considering the RED GODZILLA or SUPER Black.
    My tank is cycled but only since a week ago. My Amazon sword is the only plant that consists of the bba.
    I don't usually like the Amazon sword because it's an algae magnet and is a great host to BBA but i keep it because It aids in populating the tank with plant growth thus eliminating algae growth.
    I'd like to eventually eliminate the sword but first need other types to take it's place.

    How do you attach buce to wood or stone? Many videos talk about super glue, but superglue melts my buce and anubias starting from the spot on the rhizome where I stuck it.

    Many hobbyist in temperate regions don't realise hobbyist living at the equator requires a chiller when keeping buceps. Even though buceps originated in rivers in the equater, hobbyist tank here rarely go below 29C without chiller almost 365 days. Lucky for u guys way up north or down south. Chiller is more expensive in energy cost as compared to an aquarium heater.

    • @KalemsFishtanks
      @KalemsFishtanks  Před rokem

      I personally would not unless you live in a humid area or have something that will soak water up to the roots of the buce like terra tape to keep them constantly in water

    • @jackjmaheriii
      @jackjmaheriii Před rokem

      That’s good knowledge. The driftwood wicks up a lot of moisture and is always wet, but I don’t have to fully commit. I can try a little bit for a few months and see how it goes.

    • @KalemsFishtanks

      No I mean Nitrates. This plant requires very little nitrates, if you dont have a bunch of fast growing plants all the extra nitrates will will just go towards growing algae on the buce like green dust algae or BBA
