Just came upon your site. You are a natural at teaching & I learned a great deal about the products you purchased and why you chose them. I’m grateful that you included where you purchased said items, because I plan on obtaining some of them for myself. Talk about ease of use! 👍. As I am someone who is just getting back into quilting after a long absence, your information is priceless.
Oh thank you so much susan. That’s so sweet of you to say. Yes I’m a notions gal for sure so seeing how people use things and why they like them definetly helps me when purchasing new things as well. Happy quilting! Welcome back!!!
New sub here. I don't remember my mother ever letting me hang around the sewing machine when I was a kid while she was sewing. You're creating wonderful memories for your children to look back on.
I just purchased the same adjustable base for my ironing station. I wanted a 46” wide rectangle for ironing yardage. No taper at end. The adjustable-part is perfect for shoulders some days higher some 1”lower. Excited to use
I have had 2 of these magnetic pin cushion. I agree that they are great. It’s weighed, so I also use them to weight down my patterns on the fabric while I am securing them to cut the fabric, etc.
A few months ago I bought this Panasonic cordless iron and LOVE IT!!!!! I didn't opt for Panasonic's 360 degree model because I wanted to be able to set my iron down (like a normal iron) to adjust my fabric without having to put it in the recharging cradle. When I'm finished sewing, I shut off the base and let my iron cool before removing it from the cradle, to ensure that I don't forget to turn off my iron and potentially start a fire. (Call me overly cautious!) Also, this model was less expensive than Panasonic's 360 degree model. I think it's nicer looking also. 😀
I know I love this iron so much too! Prices vary so much on amazon from day to day it’s crazy! Just last week the 360 model was cheaper then this one. I don’t get it-but it is what it is.
Some very good ideas. I enjoyed the video. Did want to tell you that I spoke with three different types of dealerships for sewing machines and they all said the same thing that those magnetic seam guide do not have strong enough magnets in them to hurt any type of electronic sewing machine
Good to know thank you! It may just be a “who you ask” kinda scenario. I’ve heard it messes with machine timing from quite a few people and others say not to worry about it. I included it more as a protection for myself lol. But thank you for inquiring about it and sharing what you heard as well. You can never be too informed :)
Thank you so much!! I have just started sewing again.. so much to relearn and purchase!! Would love to see what else you have to recommend!! Can't wait to watch more of your videos!!
Sewing is so much fun. I love it so much and am so grateful to my mom, aunt and grandma for getting me started. I hope you enjoy it that much more after getting started again.
@@homemadeonourhomestead I hadn't used a sewing machine in over 30 years before I attempted masks.. then scrub caps.. now welders caps and just made 3 walker bags.. I like how much more descriptive you are when making things. Tshirt quilts are the next item to tackle.. waiting on my wool pad and mini iron that I had ordered just the day before your 10 best came out!! Cant wait to see the 30 best!! Haha
I had an Ikea sit stand desk, but eventually realised it does not go low enough. Swapped it out for a Flexispot E7 sit stand desk base. This goes as low as 58cm up to 123cm. It adjusts for table lengths from 120 to 200cm and widths from 60-80cm. I reused my Ikea table top. It also has optional wheels which can be locked. (Their wheels fit the Ikea desk if you want to make it movable) The lower height is especially good for my serger as this has a higher sewing height than my sewing machine.
Thank you for making this informative video. I have been following your videos during this pandemic and have made several of the items you have shared. Yes, I am interested in the rest of your essential tools. I am curious as to how your sewing table is set up with the mat around the sewing machine. Thanks again for your help!
Thank you for sharing your top ten sewing items . I am curious if you use the adjustable table for cutting your fabric too? If so, do you think it is at a comfortable height to perform that sort of task? Thank you.
I purchased the Lip Edge ruler. Could you please tell me where to buy the clear piece that you put on top. I can't seem to find that piece even when I went to O'lipfa website. Thanks for showing me an easier way to cut fabric with this ruler, as my old rulers tend to ship when I cut. But your idea of placing that clear ruler on top to prevent the blade hitting your hand Outstanding.
Great video. Just a quick question. I have a cutting mat that has warped in various places. How can I restore this or do I need to replace this. Can anyone help me with the question on this mat. Many thanks
Good question. I think I may actually make a video on this as I have another cutting mat that’s in need of some TLC. Long story short, yes it can be made better. Is it 💯 perfect fix-no (sadly). You’ll place a towel on top of your cutting mat in the area where there is a warp you’d like to fix. Turn on your iron to about a medium heat without steam. When the iron is hot, you’ll run it over the area with the warp and apply pressure while doing so. Heat up the surrounding area as well. About a 12” radius around the warped spot. When the mat is hot to the touch, remove the iron and pressing cloth and quickly replace with large stacks of heavy books. You can use any other items you’d like that weigh quite a bit. You’ll repeat this process 3-5 times depending on how bad the warp is. I have found that if the warps are really bad, then (depending on the brand of the cutting mat), sometimes it’s easier to replace them. I hope this helps. Now I need to get on making a video for this :/
Just a comment on the Olipfa ruler. There is one at the quilting group I go to, and most of the markings have worn off. I don't know if that is a common problem with them, but it is annoying.
Did you say “wax canvas?” What is that? Any alternatives for the wool pressing mat? I’m allergic to wool. Love the adjustable table. I’ll keep that in mind for the future, when we move.
Waxed canvas is a waxed coated 10oz canvas material that people use to make bags, raincoats, boat covers and other items that you want a waterproof coating on. I do have an alternative to the wool pressing mat. I make my own pressing boards as well and am doing a video for that too! Stay tuned! It’s super simple to make and you can customize the size. And yes my height adjustable desk is so awesome. It’s nice to be able to sew standing up occasionally to give my back and legs a rest from sitting in the same spot
They are so cool! My fave sewing pins!!! I think they are linked in the description box below the video. If not, you can find them here: amzn.to/2JG1DDP Happy sewing!!
These are great, but some are not actual essentials. More like useful tools that would make your sewing easier, maybe a bit faster, less annoyances. Essential examples would be any form of fabric cutters, a simple cutting board, needles, thread, etc. Things you can't sew without. But again, thanks.
I do love the magnetic pin cushion.

Oh thanks so much. Both my kids really enjoy sewing. Still learning, but they really love it.
I was always allowed to hang around my mom when she was sewing. And 40 years later I still love sewing!
Would love to see another video ... top 20! Thx for this vid.
Perfect! Will do

Are those snip sizzors good for applique? My hands c are big so the duck bill sizzors hurt my fingers.

wow you did promise to film a beginner's sewing video but I didn't think it would take a year to get it uploaded?
Pandemic hit. Life changed for awhile. But I’m slowly getting around to all the things ❤️
I like the ruler guard for lip edge ruler. I cut off a chunk of my finger using a rotary cutter and ruler. My hand slipped.
oh my gosh I hope you are ok. Ouch! yes guards are important. I tend to make slips like that when Im tired.

I just revisited the video and it seems that you called it a "protective guide for your fingers" that is placed on top of the lip edge ruler.
Would you like me to send you a link? Are you looking for one?
Whoa, just checked the price of those little thread snip scissors - YIKES! $32.61 (Canadian). Too rich for my blood. :-(
Oh heavens! They are only $18 here
quick search in US Amazon, "HTS 144C7 4.5" Curved Stainless Steel Squeeze Scissors" $6.95.
@@kuotie US Amazon probably has them for $6.95 but Amazon Canada doesn't have them unfortunately. :-( thank you, anyway.
