    All Black's won a scrum penalty with 7 forwards. They played a quarter of the match with 14 men, not 15. It was not a lucky win. That was pure heart and very very smart rugby played by NZ. Ireland were dismantled by a team who couldnt keep their full compliment of players on the field. How about we acknowledge that incredible achievement. Not many teams, if any at all could've done what the All Black's did. I'm glad many of us knew they could.

      Indeed. Ireland are a fantastic side but like previous Irish teams they aren’t forged from steel that has been tested in the heat of a RWC KO game. Its an interesting comment ive heard from Sexton and now Quinlan that the All Blacks didnt have to work as hard for their tries. Thats the point though isnt it, if you get a "free" 7-14 points a game because youve got players with individual brilliance it makes things easier. Theres only one team in the world that can score tries like that. No one else besides the All Blacks can truly break a team apart through individual brilliance. No matter whether its the great 2015 All Blacks or a slightly lesser version like this NZ team.
    Ireland played great, what a great game. Theyre a wonderful team and I know no NZ fan would've been confident the entire game. But I think that kind of comment shows Ireland just dont quite get it. The All Blacks can hang around with anyone and may or may not win, but no one can rip a team apart like the All Blacks in moments like those two tries. In a game that is now so structured there is still a place for the park footy the kiwis can play at times.

    As a kiwi, there were several factors of why I thought NZ had the upper hand: 1) NZ have played ‘under pressure’ rugby more than any other team. They know the mental fight that is needed. 2) NZ were underdogs, so the pressure was already off them 3) Irish are world no1 and therefore the pressure for them to win was heavy. Not only that, the had thrice the pressure because of also the consecutive win record, and, the quarter final curse 4) NZ are most dangerous when they are written off. Not that anyone didnt think NZ was capable, but it was against them, and because of this - NZ were out to make a statement. Thank you Ireland, for such a superb game of rugby. The All Black style that they played against Ireland evolved in Auckland. It was said in the late seventies and early eighties "All Blacks? Just send Auckland. . ." The style was fifteen man rugby. I played it at school. The emphasis was total support in offense and defense. The current team has struggled but they showed they can whip out the long passes at the right time, overcoming the vaunted precision of Ireland's short passing game. It didn't matter that Ireland's fan sang to shout out the haka. Tonight a team who had struggled to hold the mantle of past successes added another success to the history books.

    Once again, the Irish were overconfident coming into this game. Everyone wrote off the All Blacks. But this is knockout rugby and you need to be smart. Why did Sexton choose to kick 3 penalties to the corner instead of at the posts? He was clearly emotional throughout and ultimately cracked under pressure. And in my opinion, any captain who swears at referees and other players doesn't deserve to lift the Webb Ellis trophy! All the Irish and Welsh supporters might call that "passion", but we in the Southern Hemisphere just call that disgusting behavior. Sexton ultimately got what he deserved. Same thing goes for O'Mahoney! Remember what he told Sam Cane last year? So it was only fitting tonight to watch Sam Cane absolutely outplay O'Mahoney! Let's go Southern Hemisphere!!!!🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

  • @paulkirby2761
    @paulkirby2761 Před 8 měsíci +17

    Defensively NZ were that bit better, sharper and more tenacious at rucks, winning a lot of collisions, turnovers and penalties. The ref didn't like the Irish scrum which was a big problem too. The Irish lineout, while improved, still malfunctioned at some crucial moments and attacking areas resulting in a NZ attack which ended in a try. Johnny turned down two kickable penalties for an attacking lineout that they didn't score from. That was 6 points, we lost by 4 and hindsight is an ugly thing. One of those NZ scores was really soft too, basically ran straight through off first phase attack and a canter into the corner for a try which is not what we've come to expect from this defensive beast of an Irish side. NZ made plenty of mistakes too though but we're reflecting on areas where Ireland weren't at their typically high standards. NZ spend 20 minutes with 14 men, that needs to be factored too.
    It's a tough one to take because I feel this Irish side are worth more than a quarter finals exit and didn't do much wrong. We knew the world cup draw was bs and extremely tough not just for Ireland but for the 4 top sides in the world Ireland, SA, NZ and France(which another gets to leave at quarters stage sadly). Scotland can feel pretty hard done by too with that draw.

    • @davepannekoek1562
      @davepannekoek1562 Před 8 měsíci +2

      In the series in NZ, Irelands ball carries made a lot of metres and then your backs exploited the disorganised defensive structure to score a bucket load of points. Today Cane, Savea, Frizzell and the tighties stopped the massive roll ons, often not completely but did enough to stop really quick ball, and that let the defense reorganise. And when totally busted the scramble was pretty good. On the scrums, if your loosehead pops his hip out and drives on an angle its a pen all day. The French got away with thta tactic in the game against NZ - and obviously the AB coaching staff have pulled together the footage (probably with a lot of overhead shots) and put to the refs and asked the question: Is this legal because if it is then we will expect NOT to be penalised when our loosehead does it. I think they Refs probably said its illegal and we will ping it. Thats good coaching because Barnes pinged the Irish loosehead constantly and Porter didnt change his approach - probably cost the Irish the game in the end as pretty even elsewhere.... though NZ had a better lineout all game..

    Little things can make a big difference at this level however a lot of fans and pundits don't seem to take into account that players aren't robots and can sometimes underperform as well as exceed expectations. I had a gut feeling that NZ would win not because i think they are currently better but because Ireland were under a weight of expectation that they haven't experienced in a world cup before while NZ have lived with it at every world cup. A similar thing happened in the first Quarter final in that Argentina played without a weight of expectation which they have had in the pool stages while Wales became nervous and tight in the second half. Having said all that both results could have still been different and that's why we watch top level sport.

When they had to play an absolute defensive game because they were down a man twice during the match , especially when they were down a man at the crucial ending of the match when they had to defend against the Irish 37 phases of play ! That and the missed penalties , and an awarded penalty try to the Irish ? makes the All Blacks performance phenomenal ! Never Ever Underestimate The All Blacks ! So many naysayers out there leading up to this match concerning the team selection , especially against Sam Kane ? He was the best on the field by far ? So much for the armchair critics who think they know more than the selectors ! The All Blacks have always had there down years like every team but there record throughout history proves they are the greatest rugby team in the world ! Which country , if ever , will ever match the records the All Blacks has achieved throughout the history of Rugby ? There was a time when Australia beat the All Blacks 2- 3 matches in a row too ? But per Usual the All Blacks regroup and come back and dominate just as they always have throughout the history of Rugby ! The AB's had the players to win it, and it took a lot of failures for this All Black team to wake up and play to their potential. It was interesting to see the ABs celebrating this win as if it was the world cup final. That showed that they were in a lot of pressure of not to lose to Ireland again. However, I am not convinced that this AB will win the world cup. What is next for Ireland? Learn to win knock out games in the next four years, and get really conditioned (too many Ireland players looked tired), rest key players for quarter stages, have a 33 strong team who can cover all positions, and have lots of individual brilliance. I feel for Ireland for losing but I commend Fozzy and the boyz for a gutzzy win and proved many of us wrong that they can beat Ireland in this stage of the tournament. Well done to the ABs and to all of the coaching staff and staff in general.

      Don't worry Ireland would have contrived to lose to them we are world cup QFs chokers done it 8 times so far. Ireland needs to build mental strength and Ronan O Gara might bring the edge but they will stick with Farrell and we will look great between world cups then fail again bit like the Schmidt era where we failed twice in world cups.

    Amazing content!!! Like being there yesterday … still buzzing.
    Perhaps most teams are trying to emulate Ireland’s attack but definitely not NZ. Look at their tries… very un-Irish. First phase strike move off front of the lineout looked easy but beautifully constructed. Not sure why Sexton thinks they gifted scores to ABs. Perhaps a bit of the hurt talking rather than cool headed analysis.

    One individuals sense of entitlement-‘we had to work harder for our tries’ ? There’s a lot in that statement. Ireland actually treated leniently for perpetually lying on the rucks. Commentator statement about Hansen in a race to be fit for the semi final was mind blowing..play by play one game at a time my friends. Quiting on superstition ‘don’t jinx it’ and meant to be thinking..no such thing exist - you simply need more points on the board at the end - only three columns points per team and result- there is no comments column.

    It looked like new Zealand would eventually buckle at the relentless IRISH PRESSURE. HOW NEW ZEALAND MANAGE TO HOLD OUT IS A MIRACLE. ONE VERY SMALL ERROR FROM THEM AND IRELAND WIN.

    I don't think there's anything that Ireland could have done.They played an All black team at a different level.Ireland played well at the end of the day the Blacks ended up being the better team.Congrats to both for playing one of the best WC QF game.

      @olibearbrowns6748 I ve been disappointed in 8 World Cup QFs, but I thought this was the team not to choke. When you analyse it, they have choked again. Poor start, set piece line out, and scrum known problem before match coaches didn't fix so choked even off field. Bad decision-making chasing game ,players kept us in it, but as an irish rugby fan, I have to accept we choke in QFs . If we break the curse, maybe then join the top table

    playing with 14 players for 20 mins against no 1 side is unbelievable . AB's never allowed the Ireland to pass the score. managing players during that 20 mins , Fozzy played a good role.
