1:35 - very poignant moment. He parrots language from scripture, talking about how God will not abandon us - he's playing god, dealing with things he probably doesn't fully understand.
I love that about this film, it really shows the Christian belief about Light and Dark. Even the Dark knows the Light, because the Light is its twin and opposite. The Devil knows scripture, he knows how to quote it, he also knows just how to manipulate the situation to make himself look like the hero and being that cares in the situation. So its really neat to see the scientist here, haven’t seen the film in ages so I’ve forgotten his name, play the part of the Devil, to manipulate Isaac into doing what he wants, by the time Isaac realizes he’s made a mistake, its far too late.

It's interesting how close the writers got to the 'problem' of many hyper-rich tech CEOs. Most media portray these kinds of people as being ego-maniacs, uncaring of people, obsessed with their legacy. You know, the stereotypical modern technocratic corpo dictator.
But that's actually not true at all. Instead most of these people, because of their lifestyle and work, don't live "normal" lives where they connect with people or ordinary everyday activities. Their exposure to the rest of the world comes through technology and news, which is quite far from how real people live. As a result, they often see the world as broken, and genuinely believe they have a selfless mission to do something about it. Whether that's saving the planet from war, poverty or disease in some grandiose (but often impractical) way, or finding a way to escape the broken planet for someplace better, whether it be to Mars or underground mole cities. They are in fact, not as selfish or short-sighted as people think...though this isn't a good thing because they are the exact extreme opposite.
Ahmed in this movie is exactly that. Not the usual Hollywood caricature of a profit minded corpo dictator. Instead the misguided visionary with a warped sense of reality, who genuinely feels sorry for all the people he has to sacrifice along the way, but believes it's for the good of all humans. And doesn't see how his "solution" is not only unneeded, but also the thing that will destroy us all.

Moreover, the Torah, which is in the hands of the "People of the Book", confirms this. The ancient scriptures say: "Slaughter your only son"[1] The other translation speaks of a first-born. Ishmael was indeed the only son at that time and the first-born son of the Patriarch, according to the unanimous opinion of Muslim and Jewish scholars, but the latter falsified their scriptures by inserting Isaac. Subsequently, other people took this information from them, the origin of which comes from the falsified Hebrew texts; this is why it is widespread among some Muslims that the child in question was Isaac.

This announcement gives us three pieces of information: the news of a male child, who will reach the age of reason or puberty (Hulum which has the same roots as Halîm ndt.), and who moreover will be wise. What greater proof could there be of wisdom (in the sense of resignation) in abandoning oneself to one's father as an offering, when the latter says to him: (You will find me, God willing, among the patient)[3] Some say that the least of the qualities that Allah can attribute to one of His prophets is that of being wise, given that he exudes great strength (or that he dominates by his presence, or that Allah guarantees victory to His chosen ones by his presence).
Ibrahim himself was qualified in this way in the following two verses: (Ibrahim was wise and devoted)[4] (Ibrahim was wise, devoted and repentant)[5] The event testifies in favour of these two men that they are extremely "wise": (When he reached middle age, he said to him: "My son! I saw in a dream that I should slit your throat, so see what you must do. He replied: "Father! Do as you are commanded, and you will find me, God willing, among the patients"),[6] until: (We exchanged him for a huge offering - and we left their memory in future generations - Peace be to Ibrâhîm! - This is how We reward benefactors - He was among our believing servants - We then announced to him the birth of Isaac who was a prophet among the virtuous - We blessed him and Isaac. In their descendants there are some who are benefactors and others who are manifestly unjust to themselves). [7]
This story shows that the child in question was indeed Ishmael, and for several reasons[8]:
Firstly, the Lord announced to Ibrahim the birth of a child whom he would later have to offer as a sacrifice. The Qur'an begins by recounting the event of the sacrifice, and then continues with the verse: (Then We announced to him the birth of Isaac, who was a prophet among the righteous - We blessed him and Isaac). So there are two different announcements: one concerning the central figure of the sacrifice and the other concerning Isaac, as no one can fail to notice.
Secondly: the story of the sacrifice is only mentioned at this point in the Koran, whereas the other passages merely mention the announcement of the birth of Isaac, for example in Surat Hûd where the Most High reveals: (As his wife stood, she began to laugh; we announced to her the birth of Isaac and Ya'qûb after Isaac)[9] If the sacrifice did indeed concern Isaac, the promised birth of Ya'qûb would no longer be necessary. The verse in fact says: (When he felt fear towards them, they said to him: "Do not be afraid!", they then announced to him the birth of a learned child. His wife appeared, striking her face and shouting: "What! A barren old woman! )[10] Allah also reveals in Surah el Hijr: (They said: "Do not tremble! He replied: "Are you telling me (this news) when old age has taken hold of me? What exactly are you telling me? They said: "We are telling you the truth, so do not be among those who despair. 11] There is no question here of any sacrifice.
What's more, by announcing the two pieces of good news, which are the announcement of the future sacrifice and that of Isaac after him, this shows that Isaac and the child concerned by the sacrifice are two different people. Moreover, according to certain verses, the Lord gave the brother of Ishmael and Jacob to His Friend Abram (as the Bible calls him), through the verse: (We gave him Isaac and We gave him Ya'qûb in addition; both were pious people)[12] The Lord also reveals: (We gave him Isaac and Ya'qûb, and We established in his descendants the Book and prophecy. We have rewarded him on earth and in the Hereafter he will be counted among the pious)[13] Neither of these two verses mentions the child involved in the sacrifice.
Thirdly: Allah tells us that the future sacrifice was a wise child. As for Isaac, his father received the happy news that he would be a wise child in another passage of the Koran. There must be a reason why the two children were qualified differently. This distinction becomes all the more apparent when one of their respective qualities is accompanied by another. Wisdom is perfectly suited to the patience that belongs to the child involved in the sacrifice. The Qur'an affirms that Ishmael is patient in the following verse: (call to mind Ishmael, el Yasa', and Dhû el Kifl, all of whom were among the elite)[14] So here is a third reason, for another verse says about the child involved in the sacrifice: (Father! Do as you are commanded, and you will find me, God willing, among the patient. 15] Allah therefore recognised Ishmael as a patient man, just as He recognised him elsewhere as a man who kept his promises in the verse: (He was sincere about his promises.)[16] He had promised his father that he would endure his trial patiently.
Fourthly: Isaac's impending birth was a miracle, for his mother was old and barren. This is why the Friend of Allah (peace be upon him) reacted with astonishment to the announcement of the heavenly news: ("Have you announced (this news) to me when old age has come upon me! 17] We have already seen that this news came to her towards the end of her life, and that it concerned her and her husband. On the other hand, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was the only one concerned by the announcement of the child involved in the sacrifice. He was put to the test of killing him without Isaac's mother having any connection with this event. This is entirely consistent with the hadith reported in the collection e-Sahîh, according to which the Prophet (may the blessings of Allah and peace be upon him) and his companions tell us that when Ishmael was born, Sarah was jealous of his mother Hâjar. So Ibrahim took the child and the maid to what is now Mecca. There, years later, he was ordered to kill his son. So the child involved in the sacrifice and Isaac are two different people.
Another proof that the child involved in the sacrifice is not Isaac is that the Lord reveals just before this verse: (We announced to him the birth of Isaac (to Sarah), and that of Ya'qûb after Isaac)[18] How can Isaac be devoted to the sacrifice in these conditions? The announcement of Ya'qûb necessarily implies that his father (Isaac) remains alive before his son is born. No one disputes that the story of the sacrifice took place before Jacob was born. Moreover, Jacob was not born until after the death of his grandfather Ibrahim (peace be upon him); yet no one doubts that the story of the sacrifice took place before his death.
The proof that this story took place in Mecca is as follows: on the day of the Conquest of the Holy City, the Prophet (blessings of Allah and peace be upon him) found the horns of Abraham's famous ram inside the Ka'ba. He then said to the Temple guardian: "I order you to cover the horns of the Ram, because there must be nothing in the direction of the Qibla that could distract the worshipper in prayer". This is why the place where the event occurred has been used as a rite since the time of Ishmael and his father, who built the Temple, as the Koran explicitly states.
No one assumes that one day Isaac went to Mecca, neither among the "People of the Book" nor anyone else. Nevertheless, some members of the Jewish religion claim that the story of the sacrifice took place in the region of the Shâm (Palestine, greater Syria...), but this is an outright lie! If some of the mountains of the Shâm had witnessed this event, it would necessarily have been known, and a rite would certainly have been dedicated to it, in the same way as the Mosque that Ibrahim built, and its surroundings became places of rites...

In the scene he talks about Abraham sacrificing Isaac, but he doesn't mention that God provided a ram in the place of Isaac. This is the archetype of Jesus, giving his life willingly for our salvation.

The people of Israel went through the same pattern several times: They were secure, had peace, and all their enemies around them were subdued. But they became jealous of other nations who had gods they could physically see (carved idols, golden images, etc). So they abandoned God and followed the Baals (other gods).
Then God gave them over to their own ways, and they were often conquered and put into slavery.
In slavery, they cried out to God for deliverance, and He sent a deliverer. They were set free and had peace. Then the cycle begins all over again. 1 Samuel 8 talks about how they ask Samuel the prophet to choose a human king to reign over them.
That’s why this scene is so good, because he’s playing the role of the Devil. He’s manipulating Isaac into thinking he cares and is the hero, he just wants to help. Just like the Devil has done in the Bible, he quotes scripture just enough to be able to make a human doubt, then when doubt sets in, before the person has time to process it to understand that he’s only telling a partial truth. The Devil then continues to keep our minds in a lucid state while he manipulates the situation further as we listen to what he’s saying. In the end we see this guy’s true form in the end, how little he truly cares and is only doing this for an end goal to power, nothing more. This scene was perfectly done and made to represent the dangers present in the powers of the Devil.

For anyone curious, or who doesn't really know the full context behind the story of Abraham sacrificing Isaac: picture, you're Abraham. You sincerely believe you've talked to God, and you know you're not crazy, because your elderly self and your elderly wife actually had a natural-born kid like God told said you would. God also told you that your descendants, directly through this very boy, would be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Then one day, God tells you to build an alter and offer the boy as a sacrifice. You know God is real, that He keeps his word, and that His word was that you would have descendants through this boy. Therefore, it stands to reason that even if He lets you get so far as plunging the knife into your boy, it's still going to be alright. Somehow it's obviously going to be stopped or undone... your job is just to do what the literal creator of the universe told you to do until he tells you it's enough.
