Here is a quick little demonstration on how to change the key in your kwikset smart key deadbolt. Hope you found this helpful!
Instructions directly from Kwikset :
1) Prepare Door
-- Set deadbolt to locked position
-- If you have a knob or lever, make sure it is in the lock position
-- Ensure your door cannot close on it's own (use door stop if you have one) or that you have another way to enter your home.
2) Insert Current Key
-- FULLY insert the key that operated the lock, then rotate 90 degrees clockwise (note that instructions are the same regardless of cylinder orientation)
3) Insert SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole
-- You may feel the tool click inside the lock which is normal
-- Remove SmartKey tool
-- Remove current key
4) Insert New Key
-- Insert new key you wish to use with lock
-- Make sure that the key is FULLY inserted
-- The edge of the key touched the indent on the cylinder surface
-- Without PUSHING or PULLING the key, rotate it 180 degrees clockwise
-- Then pull the key to make sure it will NOT come out in this position (DO NOT use excessive force) - Jak na to + styl

Yes you can
What about the door knob? My door knob and keypad came as a set. Somewhere along the line things got messed up. It's a Kwikset setup. The key will work the keypad but not the door knob.

You can pull the entire assembly out completely reset all the pins. It's super tedious and the pieces are extremely tiny.
Could u do this with a new set of keys from Amazon ? Lost the original I think 😔 but I still have the have new locks/door knobs that the originals came with.

You need the tool and the key. The lock is already coded to in order to change it

Does this work for Kwikset locks only?
As far as I know, yes.
BUT ... I want to use my old (existing key) with the new lock.
How do I do this as your video show that I have to start using the new keys that came with the new lock.
I do not want to do this as this means I have to use 2 different keys from now on, my older (existing key PLUS the new key that came with the new lock.
Did I miss something here?
The lock came keyed to the new keys. All you need to do is do this process with your old key and then the new lock will only be programmed to your old key

The reason I asked is I got confused at the 0:51 mark when you tested the old key to make sure that it does not work.
Well....I do want to use ONLY the old key.

What if you mess up programming the new key and now the old and new both don't work?
I'm fairly certain that means no key will work on that. You'll likely have to take the tumbler out and reset everything
I purchased 3 lock sets today, all Kwikset SmartKey with 2 keys each. Is it possible all six keys look exactly alike? Some isn’t right? Suggestions?
When they sell them at the store a bunch of them are the same ones. There are numbers on the box.

You have to pull the tumbler out and reset the pins. The lock is now likely programmed to none of the keys that you have. Do it over a cloth as the pieces are super tiny. Take your time

You have to take the tumbler apart. It's extremely tedious and very very very hard to put it back together

What difference does it make? you need the existing key to change it to another key.
That is not even possible. There are knobs on the inside not a keyholes. 🙄
LOl I live in apartment complex w/80 units that just changed every lock in the complex because someone broke in the office and stole all the keys. All they had to do is by this tool and some keys . The locks cost $30 apiece PLUS the keys . The keys by themseoves cost $3 apiece. Corporate office isn't very good with math i guess.

Unfortunately after I bought the new Kwikset lock my Emtek key will not fit into the new Kwikset lock.
I think Emtek and Schlage are interchangeable and neither of these brand keys will work with a Kwikset lock.
So I have to return the new Kwikset I bought and start new.
FYI to all others, before you buy a Kwikset lock with Smart Key make sure your existing keys will work with Kwikset.

You need the key it's currently keyed to in order to change it. The original key must be inserted first, then the tool and be used to rekey

You have to have the original key to be able to unlock it. The tool can only be used once the original key is inserted

BUYER BEWARE! Your existing key needs to be a KW1 type or you can’t rekey your existing key to your new lock.
You failed to explain where or how a person would obtain "new keys" for the lock. Your video is completely USELESS without that.......
