Nike SB Dunk Low BIG MONEY SAVINGS....I am SO TEMPTED!

  • #Nike SB Dunks seem to deliver when many other models or releases don't to a lot of people. The Big #Money Savings pair that dropped this year is arguably one of the best of the year and I would have to agree. SBs can be difficult to get so many spin the block and pay resale...with them being affordable, did I finally cave and pay resale for them, plus another Nike SB Dunk as well? Or did I pass on easily affordable #sneakers for me to get one step closer to freedom.

    I’m not one who does a lot of CZcams engagement and post comments on videos, but I thought this was a really good discussion topic. For all the years of not being able to get a Nike SB Dunk Low, I finally got my first W with the Big Money Savings. I agree, the concept was nice, but in the end I just didn’t LOVE the shoe and took them back to Nike for a refund. But that shoe is a good representation of 2024. It’s funny how when the scarcity doesn’t exist you can actually process the decision on whether or not you need to buy a new pair of sneakers and not be succumbed to the hype or the idea you are missing out. But hopefully with factors like inflation, resell not being as popular, and a downward trend in sneaker culture, consumers are starting to consider the opportunity costs and other areas they can (and want) to put their money to use. I can also relate with trying to get the student loans paid off quickly. I’m putting an extra $700 a month towards principal with the intent of paying my grad loan off in 3.5 years instead of 20, not to mention saving around $25K in interest.

      One, thank you for commenting, and taking the time to do so. Two, thank you for the feedback and I think you added a great piece to this conversation.
      The ability to slow down and process our wants and purchases right now wasn't a reality in 2020-2022 when pairs were flying off of shelves. Many shoes look good, even great, but is it the excitement, hype and FOMO driving the pickup and is it a pair we can admire from afar? All valid questions we have time to process today and like you said, weigh opportunity costs, put that money towards something we say is really important.
      Cheering for you on the student loan payoff push. The interest saved will be massive and a great gift to yourself.

    The moment I saw the Big Money Savings Dunks on the thumbnail, I smiled knowing how on theme it was with your channel. From your e-books to your budgeting and investment videos and how much it's taught us, it seemed so made for you!! If it's within your means and wardrobe compatible, YES go for it. I'm of the opinion that sneakerheads should go for those pairs they can point to and say it unmistakably represents their visions, personality, creativity, and work ethic. And those pairs should hold significant memories and connection. And it's now the point i've learnt to establish where I'm fully satisfied.
    Remember the video you made on the idea of the pair that would retire you from the sneaker game? On my convocation day, I was blessed by my older brother and gifted one of my grails. My one and only end-game pair, the Powerpuff Girls Blossom SB Dunk. My heart was full to bursting at that moment and I'm still in disbelief I'm able to own this. To myself at 22, that pair represents how much skateboarding, animation, artwork and storytelling shaped my work ethic, talents, and creativity. It was a pair that put my undying love and inspiration from anime, cartoons and film on display, all wrapped in one of my favourite colours! No other pair painted the thousand words of my love for streetwear, cosplay, and the modern anime and video game scene. I know myself well enough that a younger 14 to 18 year old me would be head over heels with this, and I am incredibly grateful to my family for this gift.
    It's surreal and hard to put in words, but claiming my dream pair of sneakers ironically placed me back to where I was mentally before I was into sneakers. It feels now like there's no need to chase drops and check headlines of new releases. I've found the pair that expresses everything I love, and only few pairs are capable of that. For a good while, there's nothing more for me to do except enjoy this pair till I pass.

    • @TalksWithTJ
      @TalksWithTJ  Před 2 hodinami

      It's a pair that will remain in my eBay cart as I near the end of the my loans in the next few weeks and we shall see if I pull the trigger or not. It makes sense no doubt in terms of my style and beliefs. Hard to argue with that.
      I'm so happy to hear on an amazingly important day, your family cemented it with a pair that means so much beyond just sneakers, but also creatively and visually. Knowing you have a pair that embodies everything for you is true fulfillment. That feeling that you don't need to chase or check a headline is bliss. Enjoy it!

      Appreciate it! Tomorrow isn't promised but a shoe isn't going to make life that much more magical either in the grand scheme of what really matters, from how I see things these days. And when tomorrow hits and the next month, being one step closer to financial freedom will feel far better, for me, than just another shoe.

    While I appreciate your message of budgeting (addition through subtraction), I think there's a missed opportunity to talk about investmenting in self growth to earn more and not have to make these "tough" choices about where to spend $100. From age 30 to about 40, I invested in an MBA and invested many hours into working hard. Now, in my 40s, I have the freedom to drop $100 or $2k on a shoe and not skip a beat.
    Saving and paying off debt is important, no doubt. Investing in your future earning potential is even more important, IMO. Maybe a good topic for future video. Invest in your career.

    • @TalksWithTJ
      @TalksWithTJ  Před 5 dny +1

      Well I already have my masters degree and that is what's being paid off in this very video. So yes I advocate for it but not at the expense of student loans, certainly not in this landscape when too many don't see a return on their investment.
      I also CHOOSE not to spend a lot of disposable income on shoes the way I did in the past regardless of paying down loans because it feels wasteful with the amount of shoes that sit. This isn't a matter of $100 towards shoes or not. Two shoes were used to show close to the $377 or almost $400 extra I am choosing to pay down a debt fast and responsibly. Yes I could earn more and I do on the side which will be discussed in later videos. But very often earning more isn't always on the table for people's time. Making the best use of what they earn now with priorities will get them far. A few months of $377 a month has gotten me far closer to freedom without needing to do anything extra outside of current work and without running myself into the ground as many do just to remain afloat.
      I have the freedom to drop the same and it's a choice. This video is about choices, and not doing something for enjoyment just because you can when it behooves you to sacrifice for a short time. The shoes are used to drive home a message because young adults tuning in are focused on shoes. Not a sensible and accountable approach to money mgt, that's not enticing, unfortunately.

    The big money savings are nice. I wish I had a second of that one instead of a second of some of the others I have. I'd love the tightbooth pair but don't want to pay resale for it. I had a chance to get a pair that wasn't my size when they came out, but I don't like doing that. It would have helped flipping it towards my size but oh well. I'm having fun maxing out my Roth IRA again. Only a couple thousand left.

    Some of your CZcams shorts are legendary generating over 100K views so in your case investing in sneakers can result in extra revenue if the content is consistent with previous CZcams shorts and videos 💰💵

    • @TalksWithTJ
      @TalksWithTJ  Před 2 hodinami

      Shorts don't really pay a lot, most creators will tell you that. If a long form video generates that view count, totally different story. And you're not really investing in sneakers as you are paying that cost up front, those views will likely not pay for the shoe up front (only during tax time do you see a benefit) unless you return the shoe just after doing your video. I am also hyper aware you can't control which vids pop like that, and the income from YT has served its purpose quite well for one of its main uses over the last year (in addition to other streams of income)...which I'll discuss later today.
