Have one too - with start handle .... dunno which is better on a bad day. QUESTION: How long is the best length for a start rope - never seems enough to keep engine spinning an extra bit. Too long and you end up getting sucked in ! 😀
Probably enough for two revolutions. It would have been better had I run it a couple of pulls with the decompresor on to make sure fuel was running and injector primed. Hope that helps. Many thanks for running, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

hi have you had any aa1 that have stuck in the stop position as i believe mine has got all covers off and just wondering if its sprung loaded at the pump end as i try to lever the inner where the stop lever fits but does not want to move to the left but the lever is very slack from the stop position down to the start position no force against your fingers from the start to the stop cheers i can see how it cams in to the pump end
OK, so if you take off the start/stop leaver, you can see one end of the governor. That is supposed to be sprung, so if you push it to the stop position (to the right) you are supposed to feel a little spring resistance. You can alter a aa1 petters speed By swaping the gear wheels over on out put end of engine I was told either 1500 or 3000 rpm but can't remember who told me that maybe I try one day @@BensWorkshop to
Hello. I have an LP1 which is very like the AA1, but the LP1 does not have the external oil pipe connecting sump and head. Do you have any idea how the valve gear is lubricated in the LP1?
@@BensWorkshop That's fine, thanks. We are going to modify our LP1 so it has an external oil line like the L-P AA1. Can you tell us the diameter of the hole that the oil passes through into the head?
@@BensWorkshop There is no way for the oil to get to the head. There is no communication between the sump and the head. We’ve run the engine and the head stays resolutely unlubricated. Just guessing, but the LP1 is almost unknown; ours is invariably recognised as an LP AA1 and I suppose the LP 1 was a failure because of the lack of head lubrication.
Depends on what you are driving with it. These are used for all sorts of things including cement mixers and so on. Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!
I have one on a fire truck that acts as an AC generator. The electric start doesnt work, and I dont have the pull cord. It hasn't run in probably around 30 years, so if anyone has some advice please let me know. The generator is mounted to the rear of the engine, if anyone is curious.
Does it have the bit you wind the cord around? If so the pull cord is only a bit of rope, with a knot on one end and a handle on the other. I would check it has diesel and turn it over with the decompressor on (so that you can turn it over by hand) until you hear the inector crack (the noise it makes when it is firing correctly) then try starting it.
It has an electric pump? I see. I presume that works. To check if it is firing with the decompressor open, listen to the crack in this video as this PAZ1 is being turned over: czcams.com/video/egCYTvt8S4w/video.html
You would need to refer to the manual. Note that there will be shims, do not loose them, they affect timing. The manual is here: engine.od.ua/ufiles/LISTER-PETTER-AA1-AC1-AD1-AD2-WM.pdf Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

I have got a aa1 diesel engine / for the chap who wanted to know thay are 1.5 horse power
I believe the 1 1/2 HP is at 1000 RPM. Mine run at 3,000 (which gives 3 HP). I presume yours is fixed at 1,000?
You can alter a aa1 petters speed

That changes the output speed but not the rotational speed or power. Some are fixed at various different speeds and some are variable speed.

Alas I don't, not played with one but there must be something. Perhaps it comes up through an oil channel in the engine block and head?
@@BensWorkshop That's fine, thanks. We are going to modify our LP1 so it has an external oil line like the L-P AA1. Can you tell us the diameter of the hole that the oil passes through into the head?
Not right now, those engines are in a garage a couple of miles away at the moment.
Also, I would ask, why would you change the way the oil gets to the head?
@@BensWorkshop There is no way for the oil to get to the head. There is no communication between the sump and the head. We’ve run the engine and the head stays resolutely unlubricated. Ive one of these, I wonder if it would be man enough to replace a petrol 5hp engine, diesels have more torque dont they?
