I used this video today to repair a disc drive from a console I got from goodwill. For me it was the belt being dirty causing the tray to not open. Cleaned that and it is opening again. Thank you sir!
I bought my 360 about 10-11 years ago when they were only out a few years. I got it for $60 when they were reselling used for $100-150 more than that because the drive wouldn't open, and it came with no cords or controllers. I just pried the face off and dealt with it not opening for years. Not sure why, but I guess I decided to fix it, and watched this video. It's been working perfectly for a few days now, and I don't know why I waited so long to fix it. For the first time since I've owned this machine, the face facade is in place and the drawer slides out every time! Thanks!
I heard that my old Xbox got stuck in the tray and the disk wasn't recognized on and off, so this was a great help. thank you
Thanks for the video. I didn't even think to check out the motor. My motor was seized. Applied oil and after a while of manually spinning the motor, it freed up.

How easy should the motor spin by hand? If you give it a good spin should it continue moving for a moment, or immediately stop?
How I fixed is I applied some oil on the back of the engine and it started to spin again.
My disc try was kinda odd one right, first it was dusty so that wasn’t helping it lol I cleaned it but the interesting thing was it would come out on its side but not vertically it did eventually after some tries but on its side it would come out like oh 90 percent of the time perfectly it had a quacky thing where it would come out…. But still automatically go back in like if it did come out and didn’t touch one of the sensors in there now there were times where it would be real visible that it was still jamming or well getting stuck because I would see the motor was still trying to move the tray with the square rubber band and it would technically be crooked by just a fraction of an inch but you can see it when it happens it’s quite interesting to see actually. Oh I have changed the band only at that time I had gotten a lot of them cheap to I just replaced it (just going to put out there those are real similar to woman’s hair bands they are the exact same looking I just can’t tell yet if they are thinner or thicker and you can get those even cheaper) I replaced it without opening it too ok so the whole clean hasn’t happened yet till I tried it out like that it improved immensely because it can open standing up now but still would get stuck and that’s when I opened it to clean. Best thing I ever did, also Microsoft was a complete moron because they NEVER added white lithium grease to the rails and gears of the system like WUUUUT??? when I clean everything and did that it was night and day if I’m right I did that separate too, like I cleaned it all perfectly and then put it together dry with no grease (now I wanna open it to clean again and grease the worm gear and rails to the laser because I never did that) and yeah it was more reliable dust free, still jams occasionally at that time. Then I put the grease in the little teeth it has on the where one gear meshes with and some grooves underneath the tray, worked like magic it’s been dead reliable ever since and I love it now. Oh if you want to clean the old band and help it still be tight you can put it in some slightly boiling water for 8 ish minutes it’ll help take the dust off and shrink it a small amount for better grip oh and grease the sliding part that’s on the front of the laser too that helps it hinge up and down that’s connected to the cd motor assembly. The original 360 was built so robust it’s great yeah it’s noisy and stuff but it’s one of the “easier” one to take apart to service and fix too, I want to change the thermal paste on it now because I’m sure I haven’t yet but I ran out doing that for other consoles I had I even want to like liquid metal the one that has the copper heatsink on it to see if that would be a good idea to do but that’s a project for another day
when i put a game in i get a screen with the xbox 360 logo and the words xbox 360. similar to when you first turn it on. it plays movies just fine. also when i put a brand new game in it said play game and the cuts to black then back to play game. how do it fix this whats wrong?
After cleaning the laser discs are still unreadable. It's not a disc problem, i checked. How can i solve this? Also i have a small Grey cushion i don't know where to put back,.. Thanks in advance

Is it possible that the disk doesn't spin fast enough when it is reading to properly read, that is why you get a false reading?
i recently installed a new "deck" in my xbox 360 dvd drive but it keeps dropping, (like when you eject the disc) and the drive wont eject at all, can anyone help? please and thank you.

My Xbox 360 premier will restart when I close the disk tray. Do you know what may cause that

How do you remove the Tray from the optical driver?
Problem I’ve got I take the top of the disk case off then open the disk tray it opens up smoothly and closes smoothly but soon as I put the top case on again it jams again any ideas?.
What if the rubber band in my Xbox fell out prior to anything? The tray will only open halfway and as I said, the rubber band is already out. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Its the mechanism it self or the tray motor I recommend you to swap your dvd drive entirely with a working one

The most bizarre DVD tray opening suggestion I ver saw. Why te heck manufacturer built in "HOLE" (and mechanism) for emergency release in every disk drive I ever saw?

Thanks for this video. I still cannot get the drive to read the disk. Its xbox 360 slim, used for around 2.5 years now, minimum use only. The lens looks good. However, it does not read the disk. Any suggestions?

I did this years ago but I remember right you need to get a sata cable to hook up to your computer and disc drive with (one cord powering it from your xbox) and there is some program that's used that's pretty straightforward.. I just don't remember for the life of me what it was lol
