This is my FAV design of the Intrepid before my FAV muscle car the Dodge Charger took this car’s place in 2006. Thanks for posting this and many other road test shows, HasanJF! DON’T STOP!
I’ve been looking for the 2nd gen Intrepid review from motorweek for a while. While the audio and video aren’t synced too well, I’m really glad I’ve found it. I actually own an Intrepid equipped very similarly to the test car they use (mine has a few extras on it) but I can confirm, overall it’s a great car. Plus now you can say that it’s retro and cool as well.
This gen of intrepid was made under DaimlerChrysler, so it probably had some Mercedes influence to it like today chryslers or dodges have fiat influence
I remember my grandmas 2004 sliver dodge intrepid as a kid. When she passed away in 2011 from cancer we sold it. Looking back i wished we kept it instead of selling it since Intrepids are rare these days. Hers had the 3.5 V6 engine in it instead of the trash 2.7 V6 which was well known for oil sludge
These were really cool looking cars. My mom had an '02, only kept it for a couple years before trading it in on the all new '04 Durango. Turned out to be a very smart idea, dumping the 2.7 Intrepid before it got old enough for the typical 2.7 problems to rear their ugly head. As someone else commented, these should have never got the 2.7 (although my moms 02 2.7 regularly got 30+ mpg on the highway, impressive for a larger car). The 3.2 shouldve been standard and if they were, they would have had a way better reputation and youd see a lot more of them on the road that you do nowadays.
Only thing wrong with this car, other than the horrendous 2.7 V6 the wipers didn't wipe fast enough when we had a rental back In the day down in Orlando we had to pull over because they just didn't wipe fast enough other than that the car was sooo comfy. My neighbor had one for a while loved riding in it
Today I can get a Dodge Charger 5.7 V8 for $50,000 with any and all options. Still the same bargain performance car that it was back then. Except, now it is V8 , RWD, and so much more powerful, with so much more features, electronics , and toys.
It’s really a shame that the 2.7 turned out to be so troublesome. I had a 2.7 Sebring. I loved the 2.7 when they ran they ran really well. Mine was trouble free but I got rid of it at 90k
This '98 Intrepid marks the end of Chrysler as we knew it & The first model by the new Daimler-Benz owner so In 2003 I Had to get this Benz Chrysler a '00 Intrepid ES Golden Champaign color bought it only for that big body futuristic design & that Maxima SE style white speedometer & tach Not too refined but didn't care
The engine itself was actually extremely well built and durable. It's when the water pumps went out and flooded the engine oil with coolant, that caused catastrophic engine failure. But if you've ever torn one apart (I have), it's a beast of a little turd!
I wish the 3.2 had been the standard engine and the 2.7 just never existed
Sadly, not. Thankfully, that was the case for the 3.5 V6 Chrysler LHS and 300M.

Hassan thought he told ya that he won’t STOP! He thought he told ya that he WON’T STOP! Uh-uh! UH-UH!!!
@phantom0456 sounds like what the Beastie Boys rapped in the song “Sure Shot”!
My 2002 is still running strong. 265.000 miles.
Oh wow you still have one? They're completely extinct where I live. I haven't seen one in about 5 years, not even in a junkyard.
Hope it's a 3.2 or 3.5 L under the hood.
@@ericbritton9346 No its not. I have the 2.7. 276,000 miles as of now. It's a reliable engine when taken care of.
That body style was way ahead of it's time. Still looks good today

Such fond memories of the red Intrepid my Mom had. I will forever miss that car! 😭

Back in 2004 I use to have a 1999 2.7L it’s drive really good I love it 👍
Love the intrepid, one of my favorite FCA sedans!
Not FCA this was Daimler Chrysler.
@@BigWheel. is Dodge Intrepid was Daimler Chrysler

This was my first car. Legendary. They handled amazing for their size.
Wow 8.7s for the 2.7L... not bad!
If you think that's slow, 2008-2010 Dodge Charger /Chrysler 300 with the same 2.7L only had 178hp 0-60 times was in the mid 9 second range

I've never had a issue with my wipers or 2.7. It is running strong still at 265.000 miles.

I loved the 300M of this generation.
Don't see these on the road anymore
I've seen 1 or 2 but as often as many other cars of that time. I see a a little more old Toyotas but Toyotas always sold well
I miss those days.
My Dad had a 2000 model.
Lot of mistakes in Motorweek videos. The 3.2 is an SOHC engine.
If only they hadn't stuck the water pump inside the engine. These drove very good, but as usual Chrysler screw-ups caught up with them.
Oh so they did the same as Ford
Zazur intrepid car 🚘

Something about the design of these cars was weird, it just never completely suited my tastes.
Ah, the notorious Chrysler 2.7L V6. Probably the worst engine in automotive history
The 2.7L oil sludge V6. The worst engine Chrysler ever made.
Only if you didn't change the oil. It was the owners fault.

Your channel video and audio are way out of sinc...No thanks.....
