Thank you for making this i love working round stock, and this saved me 20 bucks on a book I have been meaning to get on forging Integral Knifes. I have made a couple just to figure it out on my own which i always due before i look into things, then adapt ways to take what i know to make it better. Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Side note: for those wanting to practice this IMHO the best way to practice these would be to use a large coil spring off a ford. (with salvage, my policy is always to buy the same brand as the steel is all made in-house as it is just cheaper in the numbers you have to make. So they make their own equivalent 5160-like material, and i picked Ford and only buy Ford) and you should get fairly consistent and you don't have to pay for shipping. I say this because round stock is a little harder to get ahold of in simple steels

My pleasure. Thanks for watching. I agree, I still have a bunch of coils springs sitting around that I use from time to time. Some of its not quite as thick as I need for integral knives, so I use it to make punches.

@@Hathenbrucksteelworks, that's what I have been doing with mine however, I also keep a stock of leaf springs for when I am forging a new shape for the first time and then keep that as my template.

While I was watching you hand hammer I was thinking of my 12 ton press with great fondness! Man, that's a time and body saver. Thanks for posting this.

hahaha! I know exactly what you mean. I remember doing a mosaic Damascus billet, before I got a press. Not only was I completely worn out, but I ended up with about 1/5 of the amount of material I started out with. So much loss to forge scale.

You’re a phenomenal instructor- impressive articulation. And obviously very skilled, you forge so cleanly, it’s refreshing to see.

That’s incredibly kind of you to say. I always feel like I can’t explain things very well, so it’s nice to hear that people understand what spews out of my mouth. Hahaha. Thanks a ton for the kind words.

It’s a good press for the price. I have a couple videos about it. They’re kinda old, so maybe I should make some new videos.

This was really interesting, I'm thinking of doing an integral in a couple of weeks so this was really helpful.
I'd love to see that one finished out, maybe see how you go about grinding the bolster.
Keep up the good work man!

Hey Christian, Im glad this video has helped. The press I use is the 12 ton Coal Iron hydraulic press. Its great for smaller work. If you have the means, I'd probably go with the 25 ton, but the 12 ton works great.
