    Thank you for this very helpful video! My wife was nervous about making the move from our Lexus RX-350 to the hybrid GLE450e, but your enthusiasm for the GLE helped me to get her to the Dealership. We came home this week with the GLE450e, Moonlight White and 21" AMG wheels with the AMG Exterior Package. 🙂
    While we have only had this a few days, my wife is driving it as her daily driver to work, and she loves it. As you mention, much more power than you expect, Mercedes luxury, and the hybrid drive is a great bridge for those of us who are not ready to make the jump to pure EV. Your video made a difference, thank you for putting this together!

    I love my new GLE450e... I just took it on a long drive through the Kootenay mountain range in snow, slush, and dry conditions. It drove like a charm with all-season tires. It's great on fuel once you use up your electricity quota. I'm enjoying this a lot more than my BMW X3.

    We just bought a 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xE, and they forgot to give us the charging cable! Hopefully we’ll have it by the end of the week…
    Once we do we’ll have a measly 22 miles of EV range…which is enough for what we do.

  • @Toobula
    @Toobula Před 5 měsíci

    Just got mine. It's all as good as you say, but it's hard to describe how nicely this drives. I did not get the air suspension system and I don't think I lost out on anything. The advantage of the hybrid drive is that the car drives as economically around town as it does on the highway. At today's electric rates, the car costs about 17 cents a mile to drive on electric alone. At highway speed, running on gas at today's price, the cost is almost exactly the same.
    One note: Charging to 100% on 120vac takes well over 24 hours. You really really want a level 2 charger setup. The charger you get can do it, but you need to set up a 30 amp 240volt outlet for it.

    Funny that my 2015 VW e-Golf has the same sized battery.
    Most people don’t realize that less than 100 miles range is just fine for regular daily driving missions. Hybrid a good combo here.
    There is no need to drive while conducting live hand eye coordination testing with a touch screen. Many people don’t like automatic HVAC and controlling these systems via a touchpad is unnecessary complication.

    As an X5 PHEV owner, the only two things I like about the GLE PHEV is, the DC fast charging, surely helps in long trips to top up the EV range than hauling around a dead battery! Second for sure is the rear seat leg room. The X5 leg room while sufficient is barely bigger than a midsize CUV. Sedans like Accord and Camry have way more rear leg room. Not sure how BMW screwed up the rear leg room. But in all other aspects, the BMW outclasses this Benz easily.

      I have the '22 XC60 T8 ER; its weakness in the drivetrain is the electric motor powering the rear-axle only (and the ICE powering the front axle only). In practice, in all-electric mode, my rear wheels spin a LOT, even on dry pavement, when jumping out from a stop sign into fast traffic while turning left or right. The GLE 450e (and Cayenne E-Hybrid) do it properly, with AWD in all-electric.

    My new GLE 450e has a serious safety issue. Picked up my new 2024 GLE 450e with 8 miles on it on 6/26/24. Inspection at pickup was unremarkable. WIthin two hours, with 16 miles on it, the hood latch alarm activated. Visual inspection showed right side of hood was raised about 1/4 inch above fender. Drove directly to dealer, and service tech opened and closed hood, commenting on the light lever feel. Drove in parking lot with tech and the hood unlatched on its own. I now have a loaner, and the future of this car is yet to be determined. How did this car pass inspections at the factory and at the dealer?

    Thank you for comparing the GLE 450e to the Cayenne E-Hybrid. In my book, the X5 xDrive e50 isn't an apt comparison because of its climate controls being only in the touchscreen, and its all-electric range may be less than that of the 2024 e-Hybrid (until I see Kyle Conner or somebody equally reliable do a range test on the X5 e50). The 450e is about $20k-$25k USD less as how I'd option it vs. how I'd option the Cayenne E-Hybrid (both lightly compared to any dealership). I'll further add that I think that the XC60 T8 PHEV (or the XC90 T8 PHEV) is a more apt comparison to the GLE 450e than is the X5.

The extended warranty in some States are 10-years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. A list of those states are as follows: CA, CO, CT, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NY, OR, RI and VT)

      yes, it does... You use the left paddle-shifter to shift into "D-" mode, and it'll recoup a lot more regen and give you extra miles of all-electric range, by giving you "partial" one-pedal driving. I've done seven test drives (so far) of the GLE 450e, and I've been able to get a couple miles of all-electric range back in local stop-and-go driving over several miles in "D-" mode. There is no ICE-charging of the battery, however, like in most other PHEVs -- but the ability to DC-fast-charge partially "makes up" for that omission.

    In 2-4years PHV's will be obsolete to the point that it would depreciate very quickly, unless money is no object. Mercedes, BMW are not even investing in RnD, or new developments for these types of cars, its all going EV unfortunately.

      wow... I couldn't disagree more about the track pad. I've spent hours sitting in and driving the 2024 GLE 450e in the last several weeks, and that track pad is fabulous -- one of the biggest selling points for me in the vehicle; it means you don't need to touch the touchscreen ever (or hardly ever). And, no, PHEVs are going to become much more popular in the next 10-15 years before full BEV adoption becomes a thing (especially with PHEVs like this that can get 60+ miles of all-electric range and can DC-fast-charge). More and more automakers are coming out with more PHEV models; you're clearly not paying attention.

That's along with Mercedes's recent reliability record. As with all German cars, I would definitely lease the hell out of it.

    • @springertube
      @springertube Před 7 měsíci

      Maybe in South Florida where you have to travel a ways to get to what's traditionally thought of as "cold country." Living in desert Arizona in the Phoenix area, driving 2 hours north can get as cold and snowy as anywhere in the lower 48 and many parts of Canada. Everyone I know buying a new vehicle in the near-luxury- through-luxury class (and most in lesser-class vehicles) not only wants but expects heated seats and heated steering wheel (AND cooled seats, of course)...especially for the kind of money they're asking for these vehicles. A colleague who was a former manager at a local BMW dealer said people were always getting on their case, sometimes incensed, when heated seats and steering wheels weren't standard. Even if primarily just a desert dweller, chill is relative, what may be balmy for someone from Calgary can be freezing for a flatlander in palm tree and cactus country! The use of the phrase "cold desert nights" in literature over the years is not for nothing, and many locals travel regularly to different climes anyway, whether for family, business or recreating. Not only that, but in this class, better resale (marketing a vehicle then is not so region-dependent). Many if not most folk I know who drive a vehicle equipped with heated seats and steering wheel use those features, especially on chilly mornings. That said, what might be a jacket or sweater morning here can often become golf shirt weather by early afternoon, so heated seats usually get turned off by then. But...at least they're there!

      I love the idea of PHEVs. This GLE would be perfect for my household. We would never use gas except for our two trips a month we make to my parents. We could actually get there on electric and probably home if we charged it the 12-14 hours we are usually there. Most people with PHEVs go 2-3 months with out getting gas. As for powertrains failing it’s a MB you never buy them just lease. They will take care of all that stuff and give you a loaner.

      @@xzimxzim Since the pandemic, when most dealerships sold off their loaner cars (because, no inventory), I've not seen even luxury-car dealerships get back to having loaner cars available short-term (I have to reserve a loaner often months in advance for planned maintenance or service, whereas it used to be a week or two). And many cars now sit in the shop for weeks (or even months) because parts are often hard to get (again, pandemic, plus war in Ukraine). I'd rather buy than lease, so I can dump the car at any time if it becomes a pain through unreliability.

    Well this all sounds great but the claimed 50miles range on battery is a total myth - I have driven one and you are more likely to get 30 miles maybe. That is if you drive at 50 miles/hr and don't use AC or heater or play a radio etc., as usual the claimed battery range is mythology. In addition the 4 cylinder engine is noisy as it underpowered. Dont be fooled by this marketing!!

    • @panameradan6860

      Check out Kyle Conner's range-test CZcams video... The GLE 450e got 58 miles of all-electric range at 70 mph sustained, and got 68 miles of all-electric range when driving < 40 mph (i.e., typical commuting traffic where EV driving is most useful). I have done seven test-drives of 5 or 6 different GLE 450e vehicles in the last three weeks as a result of Conner's reporting, and I can confirm that the range is at least 60 miles in stop-and-go driving. No argument about the ICE being noisy and lethargic, but frankly it's probably adequate for the PHEV drivetrain overall. Of more concern is the infamous Mercedes-Benz unreliability.
