    you did it again...every time with your most recent tutorial, I get the wow effect. The way you explain these fundamentals, makes it so clear and easy to understand the what why and how. you're an awesome tutor, that's rare... can't wait for the next already. I promise I will tone my enthusiasm down a notch, just one more thing: the oscilloscope... :o I had my eyes on the oszillos megascope which is the best so far I've tried, but I missed the extra mega deal a month ago, and now this'll be for free?? that's incredible! just what I need. I guess the DL link will be only available here, when it goes "live", right? I demo the bomshanka plugins right now, and I like them very much, can't wait to put my hands on this scope as well. and once more, thank you for teaching us with such hi-quality content! :)

      Yes it will be totally absolutely free. And to be honest is so good. You get direct and side signal for both channels stereo. .. Is ridiculous for musical purposes 🎶📶😊

    You should bounce 4 kicks in succession so you can slightly lower the volume of each of them respectively :)

      @@HomegrownAudioChannel I'm sure you know this but if you maybe lower the volume of your kicks 1 to 4 by 0.1 or 0.2 db respectively, it makes a HUGE difference to your track. It's such a small change but gives your whole track a more human feeling. To me, specially in psytrance, the kick is the most important sound and it's my favourite sound design process.

    First of all, another brilliant tutorial, thanks! 2nd, when you bounce and chop the kick and move it slightly, phase is moved a bit as I can see on the OccularScope, the top +ve amplitude of the bassline, is a little further left than the top +ve amplitude of the tail if the kick. I guess this can simply be aligned by selecting the "right" kick sample?
    Which brings me to my next question, is the triggering slightly off (it should be sample tight really) of does it not trigger always from the sample point of the phase cycle?
    Wicked tutorial and very informative to see the effect of various processing to phase.
    P.S. OcuularScope, wicked! Didn't find it on the Boom Shanka site, but I saw the released soon, so I assume Richie wants to finalize the thing before letting it out in the wild.

      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes man had a few minor problems uppon release broke his toe and u know.. But its release is imminent.
      Yes also when moving slightly the kick is gonna move the phase a bit more. If u wanna compensate a bit for this and push phase one or 2 degrees forward to compensatw for this chop is also good practice. Is generaly almost unnoticeable in most cases though!
      Thanks for the feedback very good observation

    Phase summing is the real deal. Very good tip for EQ in wavetable in Serum. Did you not bounce the bass after everything done in MIDI? I found some bass latency when I’m working. Can destroy your phase again, right?

    • @HomegrownAudioChannel
      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes man definitely is why I check timing in the end on oscilloscope and re-phase the kick into the bass before I end up bouncing kick. Bass I will bounce if necessary to check how many ms its off and eventually if necessary correct on the instrument channel delay compensation.
      I rather have midi bass and have full options to change stuff as I go along

    • @HomegrownAudioChannel
      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 4 lety +1

      I find bouncing the kick a bit more necessary so it lines up with snare and all on beat stuff bass can have few sample delay before u notice the slack

    Another great video from the master! Thanks a lot!
    I have a question If I may, not about the tutorial, as it is crystal clear as usual, but about the ocularscope... how can I overlay my kick and bass in the same instance? I only seem to be able to see either one or the other.

    • @HomegrownAudioChannel
      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 4 lety +1

      It has 2 separate stereo 'inputs'
      What I do is I place the scope on kick channel and that insert serial connection is channel 1
      Then you turn on the sidechain on it. And go to bass and send from that channel signal into the scope sidechain. (in cubase is the same dialogue like send / return).
      This way u get the 2 colors

    I have a question, if i put saturation or multi band compression on the kick after it's render to WAV will that mess up with the phase again and how to fix that? Cheers

    • @HomegrownAudioChannel
      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey it will mess a bit up the phase depending on the frequency any band limited process as is a multiband will inherently add group delay! I try to do these processes before bouncing to audio so it's clean.
      Check bouncing the kick again and check both phases see how far it gone. If you have still midi kick available try there copying the saturator u had on your audio kick (I would try this first.
      On the other hand, if your audio kick after saturation seems to hit on grid and end is still phasing correctly i wouldn't sweat it.

  • @fernandorodrigues223

    The big difference of "doing EQ" with the partials on the wavetable, is that when you change bass notes the "EQ" is maintained... I always do it like that, now.... plus, and u dont get neither of phase attenuations or pre-ringing effects due to eq filters....

    • @HomegrownAudioChannel
      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes exactly! Except when the problem comes from, in this case, multiband or a non linearity after the synth in the insert chain. Gotta be cautious on the processes used.

    Hey! Don’t you run into another problems, when you shift the phase of the kick? Like the init attack?
    And in the end of this video, you shift the phase of the kick again, after everything is in phase. Doesn’t make alot of sense.

    • @HomegrownAudioChannel
      @HomegrownAudioChannel  Před 3 lety

      There is a range where the kick and the bass are somewhat in phase specially after the group delay artifacts from the multibands.
      When you shift the phase of the kick I don't think there should be any problems specially since you are bouncing and slicing the beggining of the envelope in the end to get the attack tight.
      There is the possibility that if you are using the same kick but 180º out of phase and try to mix it with the exact same kick but with phase 0 thst they will cancel out yes. That is one problem.
      Pretty hard to achieve unless really trying to do it or on a very lucky day.
      The attack of the kick is done by the pitch envelope as opposed to the bass where its done by the waveform initial phase (and amp/filter envelopes)
