  • Bruges is an incredible city in Belgium that has legendary history, culture, and food. We spent one busy day trying to do as much in the Venice of the North as possible. There is so much in this city to do on foot and by boat.
Our first stop was the Bell Tower/Belfort on the Markt in the heart of the city. This tower has 366 steps to the top, with a breathtaking view at the top. We weren’t prepared for the bells going off at the top of the tower, but it is still working today and may startle you!
After enjoying a stroll around the Markt-busy in the morning with all the shops getting deliveries-we came to Burg Square. The stunning architecture in this area includes City Hall (Stadhuis) and the Basilica of the Holy Blood (Heilig-Bloedbasiliek), which is said to house the blood of Jesus.
As we continued to stroll through Bruges, we stopped past the Fish Market (Vismarkt), a long running fish market that locals still enjoy today. Make sure you are there early in the morning on Wednesdays-Saturdays if you want seafood. Unfortunately we missed the seafood, but it is still an art and souvenir market later in the day.
We next stopped past Huidevettersplein square, a small, charming square that used to be where the Skinners and Tanners of Bruges were headquartered-a reminder of the industrial hub that Bruges once was.
As we continued to walk through the city, we came upon The Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrowekerk). This church has the famous Madonna and Child by Michelangelo-the only of his pieces said to leave Italy during his lifetime. We enjoyed a calm, quiet stroll through the church that is stunning in its own right.
No tour of Bruges is complete without a canal tour. We lucked out because most tour companies end their tours before mid-November, but we were lucky enough to find a company that was still operating at this time and booked a ticket as soon as we could. The tour was stunning, and we enjoyed Bruges’s incredible architecture from a different vantage point.
It was now time to treat ourselves to some of the city’s best treats. We enjoyed a tour at De Halve Maan Brewery, a beer brewery in Bruges that offers an incredible, detailed tour and a tasting of their incredible selection of beers at the end. Make sure to get your ticket early as they can book up quickly!
Our final stop was for a sweet treat at the Old Chocolate House for some of the best hot chocolate in the world. We enjoyed some unique flavors and were delighted by the creamy, chocolatey treat. What an incredible way to the end day!

Enjoy your videos and love Bruges. But only one day 😢 At least two nights (Three better), to get get the vibe and leisurely enjoy. Also affordable Michelin rated restaurants, great al fresco beer and museums. Why the rush?

Yes unfortunately only one day, we only had about a week in Belgium and had so much we wanted to see. Hopefully we’ll be back sometime again since there were definitely things we wanted to do but had to skip.
