- "Dead Poets Society," directed by Peter Weir and released in 1989, is a poignant tribute to freedom of expression, individuality, and the redemptive power of literature. Set in the austere halls of Welton Academy, a 1950s New England boys' prep school, a new English teacher, John Keating (brilliantly portrayed by Robin Williams), challenges the foundations of a tradition-bound institution. With his innovative teaching methods and mantra "Carpe Diem," Keating inspires a group of students to re-evaluate their perspectives on literature, life, and their own suppressed dreams.
The film explores with nuance and depth themes of rebellion against authority, the quest for personal identity, and the tragic conflict between individual aspirations and societal expectations. Through the eyes of these young men, we witness moments of intellectual and emotional awakening that are both sublime and painfully realistic. Williams' performance, blending humor and gravity, guides this transformational journey, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of viewers.
"Dead Poets Society" is not just a film about education; it’s a celebration of life itself, a call to seize the moment with passion and audacity. Poetry becomes a metaphor for resistance, a tool for emancipation in the face of oppression. This moving and inspiring film reminds us that art and beauty have the power to change lives and that finding one's own voice can be the most powerful act of rebellion.

One of the most inspirational moments of all time! Neil sacrificed his life for what he believed in...Todd was willing to give his future.
He was a great actor and comedian ! He is missed everyday!!!❤❤❤❤
Thank you Robin Williams. Thank you.
Robin Williams was one of a kind.
Robin Williams was a brilliant comedic actor but I loved him for his dramatic roles more. This film should have won him an Oscar
He was up against Daniel Day Lewis though
Robin WIlliams gave life to Dead Poets Society
Good Bye Mr. Williams! 😢
Oh captain, my captain.
I just noticed how the boys who didn't stand up were sitting with their heads bowed in shame. Also, that's a lot of late 80s early 90s floppy hair for the 1950s.
This meant more to him than anything else in the world !
He was a true example for other teachers
What an inspiring movie
One of my favorites of Robin Williams
And the SNL skit on this is beyond hilarious
One of my favourite actors. I really miss him. ❤❤❤❤❤
Timeless American movie classic.
A true classic
One of Robin WIlliams greatest movies
I sing my song for all to hear
My poem,
Standing Alone,
Alone I stand,
A mortal entity
Seeking resplendent light
Amongst many moons
Throughout untold realms
Realms of the hereafter
For ever after.
This movie encourages one to think for one's self 2:59
All english teachers should be like John keating
This movie teaches me go against the norm
You are a gift so be a gift
One of the greatest endings in film history!
I write poetry and this film inspires me
Hum: To woo women ??
We should all be free thinkers
This movie encourages one to be creative
All it takes is is just one.
A movie to go against the grain
To seek is to find
NAN NU, NAN NU 🖖
one of the best endings to a film that I know - wonderful show of respect 😏

I went to a boarding school (on scholarship) and this is the kind of weak, meaningless nonsense that passed for "courage" in that world. I laughed at it regularly. A few weeks before going there, I had a crackhead put a gun in my face and I spent a considerable time talking him into not shooting me. Then a few weeks later, some kid my same age was bragging about his courage making a lame, barely sarcastic comment to a teacher in class. Surreal.
SNL ruined this scene for me.
Haha, same here 😂
Higgs nobel Cambridge professor but fr dg Chirac got the nobel price in nuclear physics and not the salinieri ostracism higgs . Higgs 125 is right but the cern said is quite tight like your lord of Cambridge higgs just like the BOGO tie of your smoking hot smoking hot like your boxers in summer 42.

It’s not chirac either. It’s Paul Dirac. Nice try though, nerd.
It's never about the first one who stands, it's the second one. Dare to be different dare to think different is what he was trying to teach.
