Having decided to go the long way around to get to the Macclesfield Canal I made my way back to Braunston where I stayed for a couple of nights. From Braunston, I would finally start my Spring - Summer '24 cruise. In this first part, I followed the Oxford Canal to Napton Junction where I turned onto the Grand Union Canal making my way down through the Calcutt Locks and to my first mooring spot just beyond Bridge 20 and opposite Nelson's Wharf once a large and busy cement works of which very little remains but was famous for its 'Celebrated Portland Cement'

Happy birthday!! I've hired from Napton and Kate boats so it's good to see the area again. If you can, stop at the Cape of Good Hope in Warwick - have their mixed grill before going up Hatton Flight !!!!

Thanks, Trevor I am lucky fitness-wise and haven't had any problems so far although one or two days have been a little challenging. I'll be going up the Hatton Flight in the next few days which I am told will be a good test. I think there are 21 locks in a 2-mile stretch with a rise of 145' 6" which will be hard but I am looking forward to it.
