I'm 45 days sober tomorrow and needed to make this change a long time ago!
great job! keep going! ❤
Your doing brilliant ❤
Congratulations!!!! Keep it up!!!
Wooohooo. Thats an achievement. Keep doing what you are doing. Things like that inspire other people. We need us and our future generations to have healthier brain.
So proud of you! I know someone who’s been an AA for many many years and has been sober! It can be done, if you really want! Never, never, never give up

I have stage 4 liver cirrhosis because of drinking. I have been sober for three yrs now and completely changed my diet and have a vitamin regimen that I am doing and my liver is healing. Prayers for all!
Congratulations for the courage you have shown
Try intermittent fasting. It helps to give your liver a chance to repair itself. You have to drink plenty of water while fasting.
💎🙏
I don't think that's possible. Liver cirrhosis can not be reversed. Cool story though, will get a lot of likes from ignorant/gullible people, I'm sure. You would either get a transplant or go nitenite if you were genuine.
@@tupakkaonhyvaa it is possible I promise. Your liver will never be the same but it is regenerative. I’m not trying to bamboozle anyone. If your liver is functioning at 25 percent or more, you can live a long life without a transplant.
I stopped drinking almost 2 years ago. Best decision I’ve ever made for my body, mind & soul! 😊
Proud of u lady❤
Me too. I really thought I was gonna feel like the sad outsider at social events. I really don't. Our culture is really unhealthy about alcohol.

Alcohol is American Culture, lol.
@@jason1040us slavery used to be ingrained in “American Culture.” Something being an aspect of culture does not make it good by any means.
I was not suggesting there was anything good about American Culture, our Culture has been deliberately crafted to support a nefarious agenda of a Global Elitist Cabal. Alcohol dumbs people down and makes them more subservient. We are slaves to a system that most people do not even realize, a war machine that terrorizes the planet and only serves the corporate interest of its shareholders, the Cabal. @@abbiemarie19
Almost 6 years no drinking. It’s liberating. I love it.
Why are you tracking the time after that long then? If you actually enjoyed sobriety I would imagine at this point you would just ride it out. Instead you wake up each day like "Oh! Oh! 2 more days and it's 6 years, I'm so good at this!"
@@tupakkaonhyvaa Hahhaah!
After over 20 years of heavy, daily drinking, I stopped. I went 138 days without alcohol when I thought “I can have one” then fell almost instantly back into heavy, daily drinking for two months straight. Back on the wagon now.
Lesson learned, one is too many!
Good news. I'm glad for you!
I had the same problem with cigarettes, quit for 4 years, had ONE and went right back to my two pack a day habit for 4 years, quit again, and have never had one since and never will . I am glad for you keep up the good work you don't need it ( it's been 16 years for me) it's the best thing you can do for yourself

10.5 years sober...best thing I ever did, for myself, my family and my healing career. 💗
Going to show this to all the people who've tried to make me drink over the years. I've still never had an alcoholic beverage. Thanks for backing me up, Dr. Amen!!
I am not a big drinker but must say now and then some people live old because the drink been proven whiskey and red wine can not beat in moderation
Good for you! I said this before I turned 21. Then I had my first drink and liked it. I’m a light drinker but boy oh boy I’ve seen the effects heavy drinking has on my friends and even during the moments in life when I was going through dark times… alcohol is toxic. I’m slowly shifting to the “I don’t drink.” Club because the thrill of it all died down. I much prefer quiet and calm environments anyways. People get so loud and rowdy when they’re drunk and I just can’t take it.
Wow I'm impressed! You laugh in the face of peer pressure 👏🏼
This is particularly poignant coming from someone named Alewicke.
Good for you! My advice is: don’t drink, ever. The “good” part lasts merely hours and then you have a life time problem trying to either not drink or drink in moderation (which isn’t good either). I drink and I like it very much…I wish I had never had that first drink.
This is something everyone needs to hear before middle school, high school, and becoming the legal drinking age. I have ADHD/ADD. I have worked hard enough to get my brain at a better place after diagnosis in my early 20’s. I don’t need to add something that will wreak all that hard work.
Completely agree that this is something that needs to be taught in health class! I think even starting to teach it in elementary school would be a good idea as it seems that kids are experimenting with 'adult' things younger and younger as they seem to also be maturing earlier than previous generations.
I only heard of ADHD last year and it took a lot of time for me accept this fact, alcohol is the one thing ADHD folks need to stay away from
Do we really need to stay away from it if we have adhd? Can't we just limit it? I mean, it's obvious those effects will take place whilst drunk but yhe occassional glass of wine?
Happy for your strong decision for your beautiful life. Congratulations!!!

for you all who are just starting to give up alcohol. I stopped almost 25 years ago. feels like yesterday. best thing I ever did. truly best thing would to be never to have started "socially " I truly truly cannot handle any amount.
I don't miss it in any way. but i can still feel "the call" when stressed don't give in.
I had to change so much. friends, family. but I'm here for me 🙏
For me little wine with dinners’s nice .
Moderation is my mantra (don’t like excess- feeling sick having, regrets, etc. that’s not good at all ).
I’m almost 5 months sober! I wasn’t an alcoholic but alcohol gave me bad anxiety and now I haven’t had anxiety since😊
I have a friend who has bad anxiety and she likes her glass of red wine in the evening. She is not a drunkard but I wonder if that daily glass of wine doesn't play into her anxiety none the less.
That makes no sense. Alcohol would wipe away anxiety if you actually had that, it is notorious for that. Only withdrawals would potentially provoke anxiety. You probably just had some uncomfortable hangover and proceeded to self-diagnose it as aNxiEty like the kids do with everything these days. If they have to look away from their phone screen for a second and do something it instantly gives them depression and anxiety. 🤣
@@tupakkaonhyvaa sweetie, stop yourself from writing a comment if you’re just assuming. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety 6 years ago, alcohol made it worse (alcohol is a depressant). Read some books, listen to a podcast, learn some neuroscience instead of using your time on defending alcohol and assuming stuff about people. You’re too focused on negative things and other’s people’s lives maybe you should get that checked out?
@@tupakkaonhyvaa stop spreading misinformation, I can recommend you the podcast on alcohol from HubermanLab, so that you actually feed your brain the good stuff not bs.
@@alejandraatencio5736 Hahaa, sense some bitterness in that. No, I'm not defending alcohol, the stuff is overrated and terrible. I've read about more stuff by now than you likely ever will, but thanks for the tips. Good luck with your anxiety, sweetie.
Agree!!❤ Sober now 11 years!! Drinking alcohol is so repulsive to me. Its complete brain damage.
Went sober in February and never looked back since🙏🏾
Flashback to 10 years ago when I couldn’t imagine my life without a glass of wine at dinner every night as well as going out for drinks with friends on the weekends, which almost always included pre-drinking beforehand. Now, I don’t take my health and sobriety for granted. I’ve never felt healthier, happier, and more secure.
Alcohol has always made me sick. So glad that it does because I'm not tempted to drink. That's a blessing in disguise.
Alcohol has do many different effects on people. For some it is a stimulent. For me it is a sedative. Some people get sick and others can consume huge quantities.
I like drinking very tiny amounts but I can take it or leave it. Mostly leave it out.
@@michaelw2288 Yeah same here. I can do little amounts, it does make me tired. Anything more than that I get nauseous. It's funny because my family were all big drinkers and they could really handle their alcohol. I'm honestly surprised that I can't.
Well said, Doctor Aman! Last December, I celebrated 20 years of sobriety.
Almost 5 years sober. Never going back. More so now!
Thank you..I stopped drinking all alcohol 3 years ago. Love being focused

You should hear a Surgeon I know talking about what he sees while doing liver transplantation. Forget it...... Damn serious. He does not touch alcohol it doesn’t matter the ocasion. Never.
You just frightened me more than this doc encouraged me.
Thanx. Sometimes the bloody gory truth is more effective than kindly advice.
If you have to get a liver transplant bc of your alcohol use, you're clearly drinking far more than what anyone should ever let pass their lips. An occasional glass of alcohol will not destroy your liver
My dad has never touched alcohol a day in his life, eats clean bc my mom cooks great food every night, he plays basketball 3x a week even now at 65, but has been diagnosed with liver disease. Everyone gets old one way or another.
@@bodyofhope I’m sorry for your dad. I hope he can find a way to manage it.
I too have liver disease stage 1 which is reversible. My liver damage is due to obesity and unhealthy eating. I don’t like the taste of alcohol so I don’t drink. So I have NAFLD. I was diagnosed in January because I had severe stomach pain, it was my liver telling me something is wrong. It was very scary and my doctor simply told me to eat right, exercise and lose weight. Since then I have followed her instructions and I am losing weight but it’s very slow.
As I learned about my condition I found out that many people are walking around with liver disease undiagnosed. If you have liver disease doctors don’t do much about it. It’s treated like a silent diseases just like pre diabetes. No one cares until you cross over into full diabetes. In both cases you have to take your health matters into your own hands. These diseases are ramped and not life threatening when in their early stages so they don’t get addressed. If they did get addressed doctors would be talking to about 50% of their patients constantly all day long. It’s sad that there is not more emphasis on educating patients about these diseases.
Same thing happened to my golden retriever , Bud. He had one hell of a jump shot.@@bodyofhope
Love this man. He should have his own show. Everything he says is mind blowing and factual.
Been sober 8 years and by God’s grace I’ve spent most of my adult life in sobriety. Pre dad, I was a heavy drinking functioning and non functioning alcoholic, then sobered up when my babies arrived! a few brief and very short spells of relapse, and can say that I love sobriety, helping others get sober, teaching my children about the dangers of this substance and the illness/consequences that come with it.
I’m alcoholic, and proud to say life is better and more empowering, has its challenges but I can face the devil and dance instead of fear induced drinking to forget and run away from problems and life’s trials!
A very important video and hope you can share more on this subject brother, as there are so many yet to visit the rooms of AA/Doctors/treatment centres or even admitting their addiction and powerlessness.
Help as many as humanly possible. In Christ Yahusha’s name. 🙏🏻⚖️
I had the random urge to stop drinking and I'm 3 days into it. Already feeling so much clearer in my mind. I may still have the occasional drink here and there, but I already feel like there's no need for me to go back. It was an anxiety crutch I don't need anymore.
good on ya! May God bless you with wisdom ❤️🙏❤️
I drank for 30 years off and on mostly "on" and I quit just in time so no more damage could occur! I'm healthy and strong and my brain is in tact thank you!😮😮😮 🎉🎉🎉 all my drinking buddies have all passed on !😢😢😢😮😮😮😊
Congrats on quitting it is very difficult to see all the damage or measure it when considering consumption of alcohol for 30 years, not all damage to the brain or dead cells renew themselves, but the important thing is you quit. Sadly the late Toby Keith died of stomach cancer, a common deadly cancer from the consumption of alcohol, and he drank ALOT. Well he lived the country songs he wrote about. RIP TK.
I wish my parents would listen when I tell them all this

I would love a video on antidepressants, and if they harm your brain in the long run
I agree. And they definitely cause brain damage. See Grace Jackson's book "Drug induced Dementia" about Rx drugs taken as directed. She covers all psychotropics, but statins and other drugs also cause brain damage.
yesss i find dont work well anymore after many years
I'd like to have statistics on how many of these young people that they put on antidepressants and then added more to that antidepressant have committed crimes I know at least two that have killed people but they're in jail for life when they put them on antidepressants and then this happened. My best friend's husband they put on antidepressants after he had surgery and was laying flat on his back so long and he committed suicide
Antidepressants made me selfish and lack empathy (zofran) I was consumed with myself. Treating my ADHD is much more helpful.
Anti-depressants have been a major life saver for me. Of course, I've been doing other things like constuctive coping skills, therapy, etc. However, anti-depressants ahve really helped take that edge out, and stabilize my moods (Zoloft).
My husband became a drinker as he aged and until he died at 65. And I don't drink at all, as in NEVER. And I noticed he had zero empathy as he aged. Hmmm, interesting...
so your husband was a mean drunk?
did he become self involved and selfish
Over 6 years sober. Best decision ever made!! I was living a nightmare.

My life is soooo much better without it❤
I dont drink either. Now however I have a better answer when people ask me why I don’t. Thank you

WOW, that explains a lot! I was dating a blackout drinker and she had very little of the brain functions you mentioned!
I don’t really understand why people drink 🍹 so much. I worked in a building in Boston and the alcohol 🍺 was just flowing! I’m with you Doc! I am a social drinker and enjoy a beer 🍺 here and there. If you’re drinking say 3 to 5 days a week, you need to cut back!
If you're drinking even weekly, you are causing brain damage. Only recently have we come to understand how few people actually drink in "moderation"
True! My ex husband is an alcoholic & had zero impulse control, empathy, remorse, focus, forethought, judgment, decision-making, organization, and planning. He is also addicted to opioids, cocaine, heroine, Marijuana, smokeless tobacco, cigarettes, energy drinks, porn and was a pathological liar. Extremely toxic individual.
F'er will probably out live us all
@bishopbanner5253 Maybe. He has had multiple STDs, including recurring HPV genital warts for a few years now and a UTI his body can't clear and antibiotics can't cure. The wise learn from wisdom, fools from failure. SO true in his case.
How
Old is he?
Reminds me of somebody I know but not the pathological liar part.

Wow! Sobering information!❤
That’s my Doc 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I glass of red wine every day , and my grandma lived till 93 happy and sharp.
My grandpa smoked cigarettes and became 103 - don’t you get this take is stupid?
Same here. Stopped drinking alcohol 30 years ago, because i didn't like the state i got into even after one glass of wine or beer...
I know you've heard it a thousand times before. But it's true hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don't love something, then don't do it
And be careful, because some forms of "love" are just addiction in disguise.
I knew a bartender. He drank constantly but was never drunk. He started to leave home and couldn't remember how to get home. They took a scan of his brain 🧠 and it looked like a porous Spong full of holes. 😢
This is terrifying, honestly.
😮😮😮
Whoah... thats disgusting.. creeps me out
I'm sure he got a lot more drunk than what he led on or what anyone realize because he was likely a functional alcoholic. If you have to drink constantly, you're not just having a drink every few hours
@@GameChanger597- He wouldn't be drunk if he was a "functional alcoholic." After becoming saturated with alcohol for years, the body becomes acclimated to it so the drinking literally becomes something needed to "function." Eventually, once the liver starts shutting down, a heavy drinker won't be able to feel the effects at all. Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs to quit cold turkey. It can cause seizures and sometimes de*th. I've seen long term alcoholics have seizures from going just 6 hours without a drink. It's a horrific addiction.
It is a wise decision!
As a Muslim, drinking alcohol is already forbidden.
Thanks for Allah!

Moderation is key and i think alcohol can definitely makw social events more pleasurable. Case in point, just recently me and my girlfriend went to a comedy show and i had 2 beers and i was barely even tipsy at best and it was great, but i also have tremendous self-control to know my limits and therefore it can be a great social lubricant if used correctly in my view. Cheers 🍻

I love having drinks so much that I was drinking 5 days a week. I became isolated, irritated, depressed, lazy, tired, not great at my job, and messy. Because of that I only drink one maybe 2 days a week now. I eat better, I’m sharper, cleaner, more motivated, and I eat better because I don’t need grease to soak up the alcohol at the end of the night.
I like the way I feel more the next day than I do being drunk the night before now.
I slowed down like you and then I kept slowing down. Now I drink about once a month and it’s turning into about once every two months. I feel so much better. I no longer associate nighttime socializing with drinking and it is easier to exercise. I also realized that certain situations and ways of thinking caused me to drink when I could avoid those situations and try to let go of unhealthy thinking.Good luck to you and keep improving your health.
wow!! this is amazing information. I'll share this with my family.
I enjoy having 1 to 2 drinks a week. ❤
My husband and I cook with alcohol and have a cocktail, maybe once a month. I cannot imagine that tiny amount of alcohol would cause the same problems as those who consume vastly more and/or get drunk.

Been sober for 37 years, love this lifestyle. ❤
I like being out of control. That's why I am an alcoholic. I hate this thing where people say this. If you don't want to be out of control you DON'T understand addiction. However I do like being in control now I don't drink. BUT the reason people drink is due to anxiety, in other words they are overly focused on controlling the external world. When we drink those feelings subside, and we feel relief. Anyone who has a problem with alcohol, don't beat yourself up, but DO work towards quitting and slowly, and I DO mean slowly rebuild your brain circuits. I relapsed last week after a year sober and it was due to stress. But I am not beating myself up, I am a fighter and I deserve to be happy. You do too. You know this anyway deep down.
Can you talk about SSRIs? Are they good for the brain?
I drink, i just don't drink enough to get drunk, i don't like being drunk and i hate hangovers, i enjoy a few drinks every now and then.
I don’t drink too. I need my conscious to deal with this world
Everything is good with moderation.....
No one lives forever
Great information, I'll drink to that .
i used to drink alot in my early 20s. i liked the buzz and social lubrication that goes with it but i developed a mild bipolar. if youre not careful, the alteration in your state when in alcohol can be mistaken as your constant state and eventually becomes your personality.
you could no longer appear calm and able to exercise impulse control or strengthen inhibition but will become loose, insensitive, anxious/eratic (ive observed this alot in alcoholics, being my father one) and depressed here and there, and most acute symptom is anger. they are so hostile
its hard to stabilized the mood.
try hypoglycemic diet to stabilize blood sugar.
I just love this man. Happy New year to you Doctor Daniel and may the Lord keep you and increase your years, you are a blessing. Thank you for caring enough to share your knowledge and wisdom with us. Thank you for pouring into a generation. 🙏🏽😇🇿🇦
And that's just partly why I've been 3 months clean from alcohol.
A refresher for some. A kick in the 🍑 for others. ❤
1) too much risk of addiction
2) we underestimate the immediate impact
3) one car accident is one too many, as is every violent or bad action
I have a lot more to post
just - don't start
and stop today if you did
Because your Wise BLESSED Smart no alcohol
I stopped drinking because I was on a medication it had a bad interaction with. It's been over a year and a half. (Not sure exact amount.) I'm now not on that med anymore. Still not drinking. I didn't have a drinking problem, but I've noticed my whole life is better. I'm watching friends around me living with the effects of regular alcohol use... I'm glad I stopped. They're miserable. I've got a real chance at happiness. I think so much clearer. I have moments of contentment.
Growing up in my parents house, there was no drinking (or smoking or swearing but that beside the point) and we lived in a town called Temperance. However, many people assumed that there was something wrong or that I ‘had to’ give up drinking but I just never did. When I worked a couple years in the UK, they were aghast and didn’t know such people existed 😂
Does drinking occasionally deteriorate your brain in the long term? 🤔 our neurons are expanding as we digest new information and solve puzzles but also dying as we age... so does drinking occasionally effect nuerogenesis long term? Or can I balance it out by doing a bunch of cross word puzzles? 😅
😂😂😂
No, it can't balance out lol. Any level of consumption has a minimum of accelerating the rate of cerebral atrophy by 10%, the more you drink, the faster your brain shrinks.
@amenclinic your response ?
Unless you’re still a child you’re not going to get neurogenisis. You can make new connections but not grow new neurons. Look at the studies.
An occasional drink should not affect your brain in the long-term
I don't drink i did when i was younger and it to took me along time to realise I don't need it in my life and don't miss it.

The way the world is going I don’t want to over extend my life too much, so thank you for this information. I’m going to drink at every opportunity now
I took my last drink July 2019. I don't miss it at all. It was self medication and my life has always gone to hell and a hand basket when I did. Also learned that I was autistic and we don't do well with alcohol. The less you are addicted to, the more freedom you have.
