This was a genius sketch. I can’t believe I’ve never seen it before. Underrated sketch.
Same, I love all the mafia movies and can’t believe I’m just now seeing it too.
I love how he starts coughing, singing and blowing his nose when they're squealing on him.
Was thinking the exact same thing!
Yeah it is... I was wondering how they were going to do such a common theme, especially from thay era. And they pleasantly surprised. Very funny concept, executed well.

Angelo was then forced into the Witness Protection Program, assumed the name Frank Reynolds and moved to Philadelphia.
@@michaeltozzi3112 Yeah. No wonder he had do many connections for illegal sweat shops, drugs, meats, and various other illegal activities over the years to make all his money.
@@isaiahpero7837 I heard a lot of good people died in that sweat shop.
he was also at chappaquiddick
My thoughts exactly!!😂😂😂
Makes a lot of sense.
Whoever wrote that and came up with the idea deserves a lot of credit.
@juhoismi Conan was hired a few episodes before this, so it's entirely possible. But so was Greg Daniel's and Bob Odenkirk, and that's just the new hires. I would love to know who wrote it though! As a sheer guess, I'm going say A.Whitney Brown since he appears in the sketch? I will take any counter offer though
@BANNED WTF are you talking about. You couldnt make this better.
Occasionally you get one of these good ones.

"Don Marcese, what is this, a big drug move?"
"No, if this was a drug move we'd go straight to you."
🤣🤣🤣
Whole thing was an exercise in demonstrating how it can go, if you feel like your back is to the wall, you make ignorant decisions in a panic, and then try to hard. Like a set of keys lying on the coffee table and you've already made at least a round or two through the house looking.
I love the look on his face when they tell him they bought off the judge.
Priceless, right?
*Curb Your Enthusiasm theme plays*
Danny Devito made that feel real. Thats gravity none of the other actors had. The man is a treasure from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Taxi, Always Sunny, comedy, drama...he is the man.

One of the best written sketches of all time
Yeah, lol, it is funny
I agree. Brilliant skit. Regards, Michael M Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 29th November 2023.
@@MundiaKamauyou don’t have to sign off every comment.
Lol. He busts out into full opera and no one bats an eye😂😂😂😂. 3:42
That was upsetting. Damn Devito is such a great actor, even in a sketch.
Devito gave an Emmy worthy performance.
Tell me your avatar isn't Lil Kev zoomed in?
Lootroq You’re damn right, it is
This is one of the best skits SNL has ever done. So perfect.
I agree. Brilliant skit. Regards, Michael M Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 29th November 2023.
How is this sketch not considered one of SNL's all time greats? It's far and away better than their normal stuff and the concept is great.
Also how has it not been ripped off a hundred ways in nearly 40 years?
This is an unusually clever sketch. It holds up really well.
Absolutely.
What an absolute MASTER CLASS is COMEDY WRITING!!
This Sketch could’ve Very easily been made into a Mob Comedy/Drama Movie!
When Angelo breaks out in song, it was too much lol
The late 80s were awesome years for SNL. Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Mike Myers, etc...
The 90’s were another great line up of comedians as well
I still get teary eyed every time I see a Phil Hartman sketch, clip, old Simpsons episode... I loved everything I saw or heard him do and still think of how unfair his kids' lives became that day. I was watching the news and praying it wasn't really happening. 🙏
A true tragedy. He’s forever appreciated & missed.
nothin' fails like prayer!
@alexaldrich3997 I dunno, theres always the freak occurrence where they're answered and all ends well, unlike internet atheists who die in their mommies basement
That's the darkest SNL skit I've ever seen, also one of the best
Absolutely brilliant the best. SNl i have seen
postaffe agreed but it's funny though 😊
That was dark to you? Not only that....the darkest?
see the most evil invention by the rock snl
@@siddhantdash9894 yes!!!
Gotta love how Phil Hartman starts to sound like Bela Lugosi by the midway point of this sketch.
Holy shit that was an amazingly awesome sketch. I think that has to be my most favorite to date.
Bill Randolph it's a great skit😜
@@only257 HAHAHA crap you are correct!
You’re able to find even an ounce of humor and you call it the best ever. That’s the state of snl. Totally boring and not funny.
Not my favorite, but very good. The late 80s is when SNL was at it's best, even better than the 70s.
It’s way up there 😂😂😂
Seeing Lovitz & Hartman plus Nealon & Carvey is what I remember as a child. Sadly, no child growing up now will have such fond memories
So this is fat Tony's story before he moved to Springfield, right
Fat Tony, is that you? Fat Tony?
lololololol
Ah the old days where people actually memorized their lines or at least weren't just visibly staring directly at the cue cards
You are so right. The only funny people on SNL today is Chris Redd and Kate McKinnon.
@@Robocoppat Cecily Strong is pretty good to.
I'll say... on every single SNL nowadays, every single actor has to read the cards
@juhoismi I don't think Kenan is funny at all. And never has been.
I’m old. I can’t just enjoy something from my time without having to whine about how bad kids are these days, with their cue cards and their hopping and hopping (not even music) and their saggy pants. And why don’t they ever visit?
killer slow burn from DeVito in this bit. they'd never try a sketch with this pacing today
While I like modern SNL, I do agree. If they did do a sketch like this today, it would suffer from the Mikey Day/Streeter Seidell sketch template of explaining the joke to the audience rather then us figuring it out ourselves.
😂😂😂
This is a good point. I enjoy the sketches of today, but I don't think an audience would sit through a setup, long enough for a good payoff. It seems like comedy today is hit after hit after hit and no setup.
This is so good. Just the looks on Danny DeVito's face are amazing.
That's what I say every time I watch IASIP
It can actually be perceived as a serious matter if you consider that those mobsters were tipped off about Danny Devito wearing a wire and set him up.
The way he coughs in the direction of the wire as they're all spilling the beans on him and by the end he's singing into it, blowing his nose, coughing profusely! *HILARIOUS!*
Back when they didn't stare at que cards the whole time.
JJWalker exactly
Cue.
you know I just gotta put it out there, that 3 years of prison time doesn't seem that bad compared to death.
mark janson yeah
Sure, if you’re into sodomy! All the sex you can handle. And then some. Then more.
So they tell me. 😅
Naw he’d serve his time in a much more cush Federal prison.
But that’s also part of the joke, he flipped over a short term stint (which his friends got him out of anyways) and ended up getting in far worse trouble. So he wasn’t desperate, which makes him more sympathetic, he was just stupid. Which is funny.
3 years for multiple counts of murder/drug trafficking...I gotta meet your lawyer lol
@@seangregory1314 originally it was just 3 years for tax evasion.
The GREAT Phil Hartman. RIP.
back when cast members actually practiced and remembered their lines
Stop stealing comments😂😂😂
DeVito was funny, in SNL and in Twins and Ruthless people
Stop it. Devito screwed up like 10 times
Back when snl wasn't so woke

I’ve not laughed that hard in a long time. I mean, tears came down when they said he shot the police LT.😂😂😂😭😭😭
Remember that time you made cat soup for your sweatshop workers in Vietnam?
Pepperidge Farm remembers
Guy dies, put him in the soup!
I found me another Curtis can’t believe it.
hey! a lot of good men died in that sweatshop
I was making money hand over foot. Literally!
Classic! Everything rocks with Danny DeVito.
That was Classic! But I still miss Phil Hartman, even after all these years :o(. Such a talented comic - Phil was one of the best, wouldn't you all agree?
Loki's Buddy totally. Gone too soon😭
He’ll always remind me of Houseguest and Jingle all the way. It’s crazy about his wife. I had no idea.
He was one of my favorites! The man was a comedic genius. I always think about the time he got into Rap Music on NewsRadio or when he did the Malt Liquor advertisement. 🤣🤣🤣👍RIP
Loki's Buddy absolutely
I just loved him. Was sick when he died so unfairly and prematurely. I think unfrozen caveman lawyer was brilliant, and maybe my fave skits of his.
Lol, hilarious sketch. "What kind of illegal stuff are you guys into now?"
It still upsets me to this day that Phil Hartman was murdered. Dude was a comedic genius. Had perfect comedic timing. One of my favorite SNL alums. 😢🤣♥️
You hit the nail on the head. Hartman was brilliant. I even liked HOUSEGUEST that he did with Sinbad. I watch a lot of Joe Rogan who of course worked with Phil on the show News Radio and he has always maintained that Phil was an extremely nice guy in real life. Apparently his marriage was as bad as it could be. Joe has said that woman treated Phil like shit all the time even demeaning him in front of his friends and colleagues to the point of making people uncomfortable.
@@saturnocyrus1873 I like Houseguest too! Phil and Sinbad were HILARIOUS. I'm not surprised about his wife. Based on the stuff I read back when it happened she sounded crazy...which I guess you have to be to do the horrible shit she did. RIP Phil 😢♥️
Also an amazing voice actor, Troy Mcclour was one of the best Simpsons characters ever
I know. It still actually hurts in my gut and makes me tear and angry to think of the unfairness and terrible loss.
@@Aven-Sharma1991 okay, incel.
Stil holds up! Such a great sketch!
Oh shit young Devito, the greatest, the taxi man.
That was.. surprisingly original and hilarious! Ah, the good ol' days of SNL.
I agree!
The simpsons copied this bit in the episode when Homer missed paying his taxes. He went to Moe's and this exact thing happened.
Even when this aired people were talking about how they missed the good ol' days of SNL.
@@vika0194There's a chance that they both were partially written by Conan Obrien.
Imagine all the comedy we will never see with Phil Hartman!
So true. I'm glad we got what we did from the guy. He certainly left his mark on the comedic world. One can only speculate on what kind of giggles, chuckles, guffaw, and drinks spit from mouths in sudden, unexpected moments of hilarity, that we are missing out on, because of an insane woman. At least he was sleeping when it happened, amd didn't have to suffer the unimaginable terror of seeing his inevitable death. 😣😢
RIP Phil Hartman. It may have been over 21 years since the murder, but you're far from forgotten. Thanks for the laughs.
You fucking ignorant cockroach
@@aliarshad3012 wait wut
The worse wire tap ever...... poor Angelo
I need to see a mafia movie, starring Robert Dinero, Al Pacino, and Danny DeVito! Why has this not happened yet?! Make it happen someone! And, of course, do not forget Joe Pesci!!
The sketches back then seemed more like an actual movie skit today just seems so proppy and cheap idk if that makes sense
Your above reason could be a reason snl skits are not as funny as it used to be. Don't focus on the props focus on the script, rehearsal, writing, and time. It shouldn't matter how famous or not the movie star is. Now In my opinion the only funny parts are the cold open and weekend update. The last funny opening monologue was fred armisen. A few years back and maybe adam Sandler this past season.
Steven Ferruzza well for one my comment was not intended to be mean or what not i have a dry and sarcastic sense of humor I know what type of humor I enjoy but if something doesn’t make me laugh or entertains me why would I watch it?! So of course I’m going to focus on what I prefer to watch 🤨 famous or not I’d still watch it but let’s be real these are classic stars that back then weren’t as known as they are now sooooo
Exactly! And also, did it look at any point in this sketch that someone didn't remember their line, was reading from a cue card or wasn't totally in character? Nope. These days some of the people on SNL aren't even looking at the person they're supposed to be talking to because they're looking dead ahead at the cue card they're reading from.
It makes complete sense. Snl sucks now. It's unwatchable
I agree and I think it might have a little to do with the older cast and writers going on to be big names in TV and movies. Also our newer TVs give shows that glossy SOAP OPERA look. That's why newer SNL looks so fake. We're watching a sketch show on HD.
This is one of snl’s all time best sketches.
it's nice to see a solid SNL sketch that actually has a punchline, very rare.
This is pure comedic gold. This world would never try to do things like this again.
Comedic gold it is.
I wouldn’t say never. They just don’t have the same kind of writers
@@kaydgaming well they should find some then lololol
Fantastic! So much legendary talent in a hilarious skit
The skits back then were like a mini sitcom why can't snl come back to these days
Oh my god, Davito killed this. As well as, many other things apparently...........
🤣🤣🤣
"we bought off the judge, you got nothing to worry about, hahahahahaha..."
I remember the headline, "Cop with eight kids slain." That shouldn't make me laugh but I'm crying here. 🤣🤣
Lovitz, Hartman, Carvey and Nealon. Damn, awesome. And nobody laughing and looking away and ruining the skit. These guys were the goods. And Devito made this skit great.
Only if they had made this a tv series or a movie instead of a sketch, id still be watching today
Angelo is going to prison forever lmao! Very funny skit
Long live the memory of the late, great Phil Hartman.
xoxo The Clarences
Now that was acting! No studder, no looking at cue cards, no laughing, just perfect comedy. Snl will never be like this again.
This is why it never pays to be a snitch.
Snitches get britches

I love Tony Danza. He sure has changed a lot since Who's the Boss!
Gar An Tony Danza? lOl where?

This is classic comedy at its finest. Note how they even memorize the lines, u don’t see that nowadays. I wish Danny was this young on its always sunny
Plot twist: they were all wired 😂
I like how you could see the Boom Mic for a second in the scene 😂
Most underrated skit 😂😂
HAHA Phil Hartman’s mobster accent sound more like Count Dracula HAHA
Lets just say that Angelos plan backfired.
From the frying pan into the fire , that comes outta trying to snitch .Even Danny's stumped .
Louie, Frank, Get Shorty, and this. Helluva resume.
The guy goes in wired up.n he gets snitch on...lol
I'm a long time fan of SNL and this is one of the few sketches where I don't see any obvious cue card reading that makes the actors look weird.
I think all SNL sketches should be done this way, like in "In Living Color".
The writing was so much more genius back then still lmao
Josh Taylor it was great. But, check out the alien encounter video with Kate McKinnon. She is a treasure and that skit is insanely creative and hilarious.
This was an amazing skit. I wish the skits today were as good as these.
This must have been when Frank decided to move his operation to Nam.
DeVito does great in these mafia sketches.
The funniest skit I ever seen on snl …gold!!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Surprising he hasnt hosted since then with his Sunny success
he hosted at least once in the 90's when chris kattan was on there
After this, he had to fly to Burma and start Wolf Cola.
Who needsa a wire when there's clearly a boom mike listening in at 0:54
Wow how in the world did you spot that :O
Omg that's hysterical 🤣🤣
I wouldn't be surprised if Danny DeVito wrote this one it has some serious like Always Sunny type humor going on
"Femmina!" 😂😂. Mala femmina, love that song, especially Jerry Vale's version.
I think this is the funniest snl sketch I've ever seen.
This was beyond great. Danny DeVito is pure Gold.
If this was a deal,we would go right to you.... 😂
I wonder if this sketch is used when cops get trained for undercover work? Kind of like when I used clips from Airplane when doing pilot ground school instruction.
I like that.
I remember this one now. Funny... I thought I’d never get to see it again. Never thought they’d rerun SNL.
The desperate handkerchief noseblowing was hysterical
