Hi everyone! My name's Brian Watson, I created this film with the help of some of my talented actor friends! Thank you so much for watching, and I'm stoked that many of you like it! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to respond, thanks again!
Hey that was one of the best shorts I've seen. I'd like to make a humorous not critical criticism - Jimbo seems to have mastered antigravity with the way he can lean forward and not fall over. But if that is the case, why does he need a steampunk wheel to move on? Great short! I would love to see him and Bob meet up on the road.
Great Work Dude. Like to see 2nd part
Yes to meeting Bob half way, a big hug and...... Recharge to discover what happened to the humans. Loved this little short.
Is there a way you can convince DUST to automatically enable closed captioning on your videos?
If not, is it possible that you yourself have access to the settings to please enable CC?
So Brian, what happened to not continue this story?... Did you give up on this one or move on to other projects?... Did the money dry up and you could not continue on this one?... Please don't leave us hanging in mid-air wondering where this continues where it left off.
This is incredible! Love the story line, the animation and the "feeling". I would love to see a Part 2 or an expanded version. Many here would! Hey everyone... who here would like to see a Part 2??? Please vote!
You have my vote!!!
Yeah, I hate these open concept stories, just deliver the rest of the damn story! It's lazy AF to just write a script with no climax or conclusion, a toddler could do that!
I totally agree with a part 2!! I absolutely LOVE this video. Thank you!
sure, it would be fabulous
If he builds it, They will come.
And Jimbo is off to find Bob, and Bob is on his way to find Jimbo. Great film!
I've always wanted a second part to this
Same! I remember seeing this a couple years ago and immediately fell in love with it. Glad Dust picked it up because more people need to see it. I love the Fallout vibes and just want to be friends with this lonely bot! 😊
@@ZERO_O7X Me too
And me
Only 48 hours of power left, the only remaining hope is to meet Bob for the last time. There is no future except of a power source crossing Jimbos way.
@@ZERO_O7X This story is a paradigm of us nothing more
Even though the robots aren't humanoid, their voices and personalities do a brilliant job of playing around in the uncanny valley. Great stuff, would love a part 2!
0:52 The quotation marks on Never in We "Never" close 😂
LoL! Legal insisted on it..
I NEED TO SEE JIMBO AND BOB REUNITED! legit though, really well done, engaging and suspenseful. Totally thought the overseer was on an independent power supply and I was watching a horror story. Thank you, also I do really need to see them reunited.
Me too!!! Lolol
I haven't seen this one in a while. I've always loved the Fallout style vibe in this short.
Hello Brian . This is one of the finest cgi(?) animations I have ever seen. The realistic look and feel of the sets: almost looked like stop motion with physical objects. The story was perfectly done - everything is clear without having to explain. The iconic 50’s aesthetic was pitch perfect including the “overseer” glaring down from his pole. Marvelous keep up the good work. Hope Jimbo finds his friend.
Thank you so much!!
1. Why the sky is green? 2. Where are the humans? 3. What is about Jimbo and Bob, as per Jazz?
@@TheeBurgerDude it's always been my favorite!
Everything is clear? Are the robots gay?
@@jasonl8720 maybe they are
Been awhile since I watched this the first time and it still holds up as such an amazing short movie. I would enjoy if it was expanded upon further.
I remember it too. It's been awhile. So I didn't remember exactly how it ended. It was great to see again. Great job.
What's to expand upon? AI going about aimlessly?
@@joebutlersnr7017 Well, we could focus on Jimbo and his attempt to go see Bob, or at least see what happened to him.
Perhaps he could also find out what happened to the humans during his travels, depending on if he even was able to reach his destination. There definitely is potential for continuing the story.
@@mapletouqe I'd also like to see Jimbo's search for Bob. And the disappearance of the humans has got me curious. We definitely need a "Big Boom 2".
If Fallout and Wall-E could have a baby this would be it!!!
Fantastic! I want to see more of Jimbo's adventures, he's gotta find Bob somehow... I love Jimbo....
This is definitely a Brokeback Mountain inspired love story. Right down to the accent. "I wish I could quit you."
Ada is the wife... "i love you"
There is no love in perversion.
Aww, poignant. I want to see if Jimbo found his friend. Wonderfully animated and great style... I love those liminal time zones.
Hey is this called trolling I'm going to jump the gun, but I just started watching this have a good day this is a reply.
The phrase "Children of humanity" comes to mind. This is one of the most endearingly philosophical pieces I know of. Love, curiosity, realization of one's own mortality and the desire to think for one's self, all nascent and growing.
It is as if all the adults disappeared leaving 8 and 9 year olds to fend for themselves.
One can imagine a future populated now only by robots where it is told: "And humans created robots in their own image"
Award winning material.
As Homer Simpson would say: "Six thumbs up!"
That was wonderful. Everything, the acting, the animation, tones and textures. My attention was totally held. Could there be a part 2?
I remember watching this a few years back on another channel. Always enjoyed this animation and yes....i am a fallout fan (New vegas my beloved) and im a bit disappointed this never got picked up by the modding community. Perhaps finding these two bots shut down still hugging each other along the highway and with a few fission batteries can become a companion pair. Perhaps with the ability to repair your stuff and make stimpacks.
This is outstanding. We need a sequel!
What it feels like to work in a Amz facility. 🥴
I'm about halfway through and just wanted to say thank you for this piece of art. Two sentient robots missing each other is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time 😢😅🤔
I think Bob should get an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Bugsy, Dumbotron and A.D.A. were brilliant, but I appreciated Bob's nuanced subtleties. Kudos to Chuzz. He made a great villain. Signed, your friend Jimbo.
I loved this short! I have such terrible ADD that it’s not uncommon for me to lose interest or get distracted and leave halfway through clips that aren’t even 3 minutes long. This was captivating. I wish it were a feature-length film.
just think, 50 years ago there was no such thing as ADD to blame lack of attention on.......
@@jimpatterson5524 It's only been 35 years or so since it was invented. I have not had ADD but I have had LSD. (sarcasm)
These short films are incredible. Love them.
Nice job. I like how you made the robots so likable. Would like to see more of your work.
So did Jimbo and Bob meet halfway, and run out of power talking about their friendship while out in the middle of nowhere? At least that's how I pictured it. Two buddies talking about the old days with the humans, and laughing about how stupid we were. Until their batteries faded away.
Great video.
I saw “Jimbo and Bob” just the other day. They are doing quite well.
When Bugsy cries ‘l like to eat bugs!’ I immediately thought of the big robot in Futurama. ‘My leg feels funny!’
This short story reminded me a lot of the game Fallout. I really enjoyed this. Made me think about how society is on an upwards projection of self automation, AI, robotics, yet it can be extinguished in the blink of an eye. Funny how in this world robots outlived humans, but only for so long before they died too. In my opinion our planet isn’t a guarantee, at any moment our world could vanish yet we imagine and invest in a technological world while barley paying much mind on how to protect and preserve our planet. This is my second time watching and I loved it as much as the first time.
He's got his whole future ahead. well, at least 48 hours of a future. unless he finds the correct voltage. Thanks for posting.
I've seen it before it needs a part 2 to see how it ended hopefully Jimbo finds Bob and the green sky turns blue and humans reappear
Holy crap! The pure existential horror! That one hit me in the feels hard. Amazing stuff!
It was so so catchy, thanks a lot for this! It would also deserve some more episodes, so we’d be able to enjoy its athmosphere longer.
There are 2 kind of shorts: one type i just watch, the other i remember for years. This was type 2 definetely
This was on TheCGBros 4 years ago, I recognized it and did a search on CZcams and there it is. Still as enjoyable 4 years later.
Feel so sorry for Jimbo. Lonely to be the smartest, most human A.I on the station, and the only one that initiates conversation.
We need Part 2 😊
Great job. The voice-over work was endearing and added a lot to your brilliant animation.
Beautifuly made, the story, the characters & animation, sound design, music... amazing fine work full of art and talent. Congratulations!
This was a nice change after the last set of films…like going from savoury to sweet 😊
Echoing all the compliments here. Engaging characters, outstanding esthetic and animation. More please!
This is one of the more interesting Dust videos. Brian and his team did a lot of work creating the characters, and the art design is top drawer. It's a great vibe. Sign me up for Episode 2.
That was really good. I really want to see what happens next. This should be a feature film.
I was hoping Jimbo and Bob would meet up on the road, travelling to see each other.
I sure hope Jimbo and Bob find each other 💖
I whis they do😢but every tool is losing energy, may be Jimbo too😳
I love to see a second part where jimbo meets his friend bob, and see them together figure out what has happened to humanity
I almost cried,.... So strange how that robots voice emotes so much
Hello Mr. Watson, my name is Lillian ,I'm from Texas. It's 8:52 pm , I was viewing Dust films as I mopped my kitchen. Bobs' photo popped up on my feed and I recognized him immediately. I remember this robot though it had been from several years ago right? I love this story. I believe giving our "things " names and personalities are a direct reflection of ourselves . I often have conversations with my little friends. They help me express my feelings too. I shared this film on Facebook because it's message " what is my purpose" and 'I love my friends" is meaningful. Watching your film again, I noticed Bobs' chest seemed to raise up and down as though breathing. And his breathing became faster when rolling away from the gas station searching, after questioning the others the whereabouts of the humans. And last , I didn't recall that ADA saids I love you. Very clever Mr. Watson. Thank you , your fan Lillian
It would be great if they make a second part where everything will be fine. Great job!
Yes, i remember seeing this a few years ago, great little film. Would love to see more tales from the gas station!
I saw this a while back and forgot about it, it's mesmerizing, great job whoever made this. Thank you.
A nice short film, very similar to a teaser for a full-fledged film. Here, the potential is really felt, even if the authors put here something completely different from what I thought. Just imagine the journey of a robot, or even a whole hundred robots that explore the world of long-dead people, being, as it were, echoes of the former civilization. Or, our heritage? Or maybe another form of our existence? I already feel the beauty of the philosophical questions raised here. If it's easy for you and you have a desire, I would like to see a sequel. By the way, the robot turned out so charming! 😃
Truly brilliant 👏!! Pixar meets Outer Limits.
I have watched this several times in the past and still find it intriguing. Well done.
There Will Come Soft Rains. Awesome.
It's a cute little romp through the bots' fantastical search for meaning. I like it.
Cool little flick. I also wonder why the sky turned green. A sequel would be cool. Does he find Bob? What happens on his journey to find Bob? What's with the shiny bot in his place? Inquiring minds would love to find out.
This would be a terrific _Twillight Zone_ episode.
Sue the girl, and sue the cops....no jury would rule against you once they see the video.
Then take a holiday with the winnings, I think you've earned it.
I watched this last year and it was great, I'm glad you replayed it!!!!
That was too good. I loved the scene where Jimbo's face turns to full moon and then the night shots take over. Also the music in the end, sounds like Popol Vuh or Tangerine Dream, like german experimental electronic ambient music. Nice !
Even though the ending
was the end of mankind?
Genius creation of machinery.
The actor interactions
were thought-provoking
and although maintained through
Energy Systems and
programming systems
showed the creativity of
mankind before its demise.
This video really held my attention
This is a classic that's been around for a while.
Exciting. Magnificent soundtrack. ✨🤖✨
Original title: "Pixar's How To Make A Hillbilly Robot".
Great short. Imaginative, prophetic and intriguing. Quite a tiny feat! Thank you.
Has a Fallout sorta feel to it, with clearly a different focus and plot.
Only a minute in and the robot spoke and i fell out 😂 okeedoke😂
I've watched this a few times and I always hoping for a sequel.
Love Jimbo’s accent. I’m a sucker for robots with a southern drawl.
" Okido. Thank you " :)
I' m really sad for this robot, i don' t want to see him go away
I think there should have been some indication that Jimbo had enough reserve energy to make it half way to Bob's location.
I’ll watch this gladly every time it pops up. What a great short.
Great work. I wish I was confident enough to give you a solid review. My emotions awakened while watching this. The ending. 😢😢😢👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
If AI doesn't think ahead about how to keep the power on after eliminating the humans...
Loved it. All the dust stuff is amazing. Keep it up!!
Great story and film! Thank you!!! ❤
Beautiful movie with appealing characters. More human than majority of people since kind and simple. Jazz has the power...
Thanks !
So atmospheric. Brilliantly constructed.
Watched this three or four times and i love it. There is something so sweet about it. Thank you guys😊
One of the BEST episode ever!
Top Job. 👍👍
I hope he got to see Bob
I loved that one, kinda gave me WALLE vibes :D
This just chapter one, I hope! This just HAS to be a series.
nostalgic robot design
JIMBO SEEM LIKE A NICE GYRO BOT TO BE BUDDYS WITH. AND HE's more -FOR CURIOSITY & WONDER & CONCERN & FRIENDSHIP EXIST! THIS WAS EXCELLENTLY DONE! Just as if Pixar had made it! I knew I had seen it before-but IT WAS AS IF IT WAS THE FIRST TIME SEEING IT AGAIN! Hope we see more like this with the retro appeal!
that was great! hope Jimbo reaches Bob and discovers what is going on!
That was AWESOME!!
Sad, but a lot of fun to watch! Excellent work. Thanks for sharing.😎
I thought that it was endearing and sweet. I love the part about, "We know about you two!" It gives the story some tension and dramatic flair. This little gem was touching and charming and despite it being a stand-alone effort, it also could have opened a serial short about the love of Jimbo and Bob, which would have been adorable, but with the current political climate, I'm sure *they* would have found some way to censor it. And they blame *us* for cancel-culture!
Jimbo and Bob could be 'brothers', after all A.D.A. was in love with Jimbo.
@@Thurgosh_OG for my part, I don't think that Jimbo and Bob being brothers answers certain questions so easily. Ada could be in love with Jimbo, but she is barely in a supporting role in this little play. She's more of an NPC; a time keeper or placemat who is almost outside of Bob and Jimbo's reality. Those two are the protagonists and there's a single antagonist, the "overlord with the features of a bat." So in my book, the emos of the two mobile robots aren't certain, but I think that our role as observers is to figure out what exactly IS going on with Jimbo and Bob.
Consider the way Jimbo frequently looks so longingly down that empty road, the one he knows that Bob is at the end of. The poignant way both of them said "I miss you" speaks more to me of romantic love than fraternal love. Look back on all the romance art, both in literature and in performance; where many *times* many tropes have been penned over the centuries in "absence vs. distance" relationships and the love stories that emanate from them. There just aren't all that many "I sure miss my brother" scenarios in the endless supply of love stories we have to choose from since the dawn of artistic expression.
That's what I think anyway. I'm certainly not trying to tell you what your emotions and thoughts should be telling you! If you feel better about "those two" being brothers, than you have as much of a right to believe in your own interpretation as I do of mine! The beauty of these comment sections is that we ARE free to open things like this up to debate. And the best we can hope to accomplish with such discourses is to share our ideas with others and LEARN from those interactions. That's the beauty of life, man.
You are a pervert as is the whole 🤍🖤💚❤️💙🤎🧡 being friends or brothers is perfectly acceptable, but in your perverted mind they are gay lovers, you are disgusting.
@@koriw1701I agree with you 💯! It is nuanced to be sure but I got the impression of romantic love.
Fantastic story and animation. I love it. Thank you so much for making, and sharing it.
That was surprisingly moving.
There should be a sequel for this
What a lovely tale,.. thank you!
This is surely emotional fr (my opinion)
Cant believe a cook can make such s great sci fi movie
Great graphics! Love the 1960s desert gas station: really sets the mood. JimBo should borrow "Hello, Dolly!" from Wall-E. :)
Superbe, j’adore. L’histoire, l’ambiance, les voix et musique…
very “There Will Come Soft Rains” energy, i like it:)
Part II please "When Jimbo meets Bob"
Dust rules 💪
More more another another pretty please Dust ??? This was magnificent.
Well done!!!!
FANTASTIC!!
