Secondhand Lions is more than just a movie. It's a life lesson. It's a near two hours masterpiece which can teach you a lotta things to live by; only if you have your eyes open. How can you not love Robert Duvall & Michael Caine! They're the amongst the few genuine heroes in the world of cinema. Haley Joel Osment is always a treat to watch, too.
"Hub McCann... I fought in two WWs...... and loved only one woman... with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand," has to be one of the greatest delivery in the history of cinema.

This scene was amazing.
Not sure how many know, but that was the movie where Robert Duvall punched Travis Willingham, three time, thinking he was a stuntman.
That line at the end of the movie, "Yeah, they really lived!" That's how I want to be remembered after I pass.

@@jenknight1897It seems like most films today are more action which is meaningless unless there is good character development and/or a story behind it. That's why I like true stories and documentaries, rather than something somebody just made up in their mind, because truth really is stranger than fiction.
This will always be one of my favourite films.

Your right, one of the best movies I've ever seen
Great movie. One of the last movies I watched with my dad before he passed at 84. I always cry at the part where hub is telling the boy about being a man. That was my dad to a T.

My step dad got me this movie on psp when I first met him back when I was like ten, circa 2008-9 and to this day he is what I see as a real man. This is one of my earliest memories of him in my life and I have so much to thank for. Thank you David, you’ve molded me into someone who I am proud of!

My dad and his brother raised me here in Texas. Besides all the money and stories it was a lot like this. Loved this film ever since it came out and something my dad and I enjoyed watching. Just saw it on tv and just loved it as usual and needed to come voice my opinion. One of the best films!!

I was probably 8 when my parents showed me this, and being narrow minded as i was i didn't wanna see it because it's an old movie, but now i must say it's one of my favorites. Deserves a lot more appreciation.
Old? The story takes place in the 60s but the movie is actually from 2003.

I always had memories about this movie but I could never tell if it was something I made up in my head or it was actually a movie from my childhood. Been searching around for a while not remembering a whole lot about the movie but I have finally found it again.
I was 10 when it came out. But I didn’t sit through it until last night
Boom!
I was 1 when this master piece was released. I grew up watching this movie as a kid loved the movie, still watch it to this day. Still feels as fresh as is did when i was a kid. The movie has the good moral and values that you sadly dont see anymore in films. Reminds me of how i looked up to my uncles when I was younger. Whoever hasn't seen this film I strongly recommend if you want to see the classical, strong value, and just purity this old comedy film has.
This is absolutely, without fail, the first movie I recommend to anyone. It's entertaining for all, but you don't have to worry about sitting down to watch it with an 8 year old. The bar scene is not only a blast, but pivotal as both we, and Walter, start to wonder about those fantastic stories Garth is telling and whether there might be some truth to them.
I will always remember robert Duvall as gus from lonesome dove and this movie. And i'll always remember michael Caine from this movie and journey to the mysterious island.
Such a great flick!!! Gotta love Duvall's character, "Uncle Hub." And of course, Michael Caine is wonderful as well.

The movie is quirky and hard to pin down in a genre plus the trailer didn't really do it justice but it really is a story about what makes a boy a man and what makes a man a hero add to that Robert Duvall's typical great performance and you have a classic

The bridge is located over Brushy Creek along County Road 456, Coupland, TX 78615. Sadly, the bridge was closed in 2014, and some of the guardrails have been stolen

one of the best films I've ever seen, even with Haley Joel Osment. However, he does nail the chewing tobacco scene. Every country boy in my day went through that in some form or another.

*Jeez, at this point...* I've watched this movie (or bits of it) so many times... but even just watching the "Official Trailer" ... it just cracks me up. Even "touches" me as does the entire movie. Great stuff. Smithsonian-worthy. Great casting all the way down, lighting, cinematography, sound, STORY, the whole deal. Wonderful.

When I was a kid one of my favorite toys was a shovel and an old Army E tool. I loved to dig. I built a decent foxhole with a short tunnel to a kid size firing position. Kids will be kids. Also I grew up with bb. Guns and the cold war.

I'm pretty sure I am the first one to notice this but at the end of this trailer, the music is from the Rocketeer, not Secondhand Lions. Even weirder is the fact that Secondhand Lions is New Line Cinema while the Rocketeer is Disney. The Rocketeer is also a highly underappreciated film.
