  • There have been some great comedic duos that have brought us countless laughs over the years. There’s been Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Burns and Allen, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. But none of them represented the era of counterculture and hippie free love as much as Cheech and Chong. Back in the '70s and '80s, this comedic duo achieved commercial and cultural success with their stand-up routines, studio recordings, and feature films. You can’t have a conversation about legalizing ganja without talking about Cheech and Chong. Their story and career are one of the most unique in comedy history.

During the show the power went down so we all were sitting there in the dark cheering and yelling on and on burning up the cigarette lighters. This went on for almost 5 minutes or so. And then stage left, out comes Chong with a flashlight yelling out, “ Hey man, what the hell happened to the lights man”. Everyone totally fell apart. Other hundred joints lit up with Chong on stage. Finally they got the power back up and continued the show. We Laughed so hard that night that our sides were hurting. Best show ever. Thank you guys.

I brought the album "Smoking" (with a giant rolling paper!) home and my mom made me get it out of the house! Along with a Richard Pryor album. Their "Next Movie," in my opinion of course, was the best. It was one of only three movies we had to watch in Korea for one year. Blazing Saddles and Friday the 13th were the other two. Wasn't my choice, not into the horror bullshit. Into the 80's I was out to Sea and didnt see much of them after that.

Next Movie took what was brilliant about Up in Smoke and refined it. It's the superior movie IMO, but only just. They are actually works of art, both visually and comedically. Both have that beautiful Technicolor look and are full of great photography, music, and brilliantly talented and funny actors. But Next Movie gives the most bang for your buck, laughs wise. I laughed like a demented person right up until the last scene of them shooting into space with The Pretenders playing the movie out. Absolute masterpiece. The old lady (also the school secretary from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) was so hilarious, as was Pee Wee Herman.

Toklas in a used bookstore that has her recipie for pot candy!! I'm planning to try that sometime. The recipie was excised from many editions of her book, which is too bad, because it sounds really good, and her recommendations to serve it at your next lady's bridge club meeting is awesome! She says everyone will relax and be in "good humor" after they enjoy these treats!!!
