@@28cucbn Thats pretty much what WG does. Once everyone has the ship and interest is going down. They nerf it. See Thunderer and Stalingrad.

@R4NG3R You laugh now, but there are quite a few carrier submarines such as the I-400 class and the Surcouf, nearly every nation in WWII considered or built them, mainly for spotting purposes though

The icing on the cake is the number of community members saying this is perfectly fine. Even without the planes, it would still be a workable tier 9 BB.
That's because this ship is OP right now. Any advantage and players trip all over themselves to crack that wallet open.
You have a remember two things about "community members" as you out it; they are selfish, and most importantly, stupid

It's the speed that I don't understand. It's got a massive flight deck and a ton of large turrets (so a ton of ammunition). Makes no sense, I demand 5 extra knots on my Yamato xD
It's so fast because it's so long. Only the GK is longer. It's length to beam ratio is crazy.
yamato is fat, thats why its slow, more water resistance
It has the highest propulsion horsepower in the game which is 300k HP, which means its power to weight ratio is 4.25HP per ton, second-highest among all T9 bbs and just 0.05 lower than USS Georgia.
I guess the rationale is that carriers back then needed to be able to do 30ish knots to operate planes? Might be wrong tho, don’t quote me on trying to find realism on the paper hybrid carrier version of a paper ship… :/

All BBs should have their own spotting aircraft which can hover on an area and spot targets and subs.
No we get the useless spotter plane that hovers in the wrong direction. We should indeed be able to send it to a specific area and not die instantly

I like the idea but you’d have to either nerf the cooldown or make the ability a mod on the ship similar to the coal mods to hinder other things if you want this.
Maybe any BB that has a catapult, such as the tier 7+ German battleships.
Who knew in order to make a functional battleship it has to also be a cv?
The Japanese played around with this idea by removing the rear main guns and replacing them with a short flight deck but it didn't end up making much a difference to the war.

If this had been just a 12 16" gun US BB with a good heal, in other words a slightly less poweerful Montana, then I would have gotten it, 'cause I love the high tier US BB's. I loathe CV's so I will never get this. As it stands, it is clearly OP. It will probably be nerfed a little, but still.

I found myself playing as a NC alot of the time with the guns and dispersion. But I find this thing to look absolutely badass.
This is a great ship for PQ to start training for when he inevitably becomes a CV main
Forget full pens. I love demolishing Kearsarges with SAP off my Marco Polo or burn it down with the Conqueror. That huge superstructure eats full HE everywhere you hit it, and it's a bigger target than actual carriers.
They need to consider implementing lock on mechanic from MWO at this point, where you only broadcast position of a single target you keep
locked, not simultaneously translating all the realtime data for all your team
Potato Quality: A CV that can spot for itself, you can't do that.
Wargaming: I can do that cause I just did.
Was an Iowa with another Iowa against 2 Kearsarges. The enemy team basically had 2 CVs that are able to spot. To say that it was a nightmare is an understatement.
3 years ago when I launched my first BB spotter plane, I asked in ingame match if I can direct my spotter...

the flight deck is also technically auxiliary rooms or whatever so it doesnt saturate nearly as fast of superstructure

@@camerong.5989 It's definitely true. But to be more precise, it's American Premium bias. Tech tree Americans are practically all fine, but a big number of Premiums are busted.
@@wombat4191 In my opinion most soviet tech line ships are not really that strong too. The two DDs are both decent boats, but they do not have naything going for them which would make them superior to any other. Kremlin is just trash nowadays, it can't hit anything even at close range where it suppose to hit, and the ship moves like a fucking sailboad without wind, huge turning circle makes it hard to dodge anything and you are on fire 0-24. Nevsky is indeed strong and is most likely the best of the russian tech tree. Petro is wierd, it is really tanky but your guns are not good, the ship is like a mini Kremlin with the same ups and downs, but with half of it's HP.

@@wombat4191 dm and Wooster are definitely very strong. And Ohio is technically not premium but is still extremely strong. Also Austin is technically not premium as well but still op.
Would you be more okay with the planes if you had a fixed amount of planes and with limited fuel?
This just proves that the way to win battles is not improving your in-game skills or coming up with new strategies and tactics but to just buy the latest and greatest new shiny ship that is over powered over everything else in the game.

Yes but no. A ship might be op but it takes a bit of time to get used to it. Trust me I tried cvs and its auful.
Potato Players usually give up before learning how to play the ship.
Only pro players are the ones who wreck lobbies and there aren’t many of them these days.
The amount of 55% WR players in ships like 2020 zao. Skill will always play a larger factor in WOWs than the ship tbh.
You can get it for free with coal. So anybody can get it. But I see your point.

Spotting is the strongest and most impactful thing any vessel can do in the game, it hands down wins games by itself even if you do 0 damage. WG always dodges the spotting issue by looking at other things and shifting attention to other stats. WoWS is a vision game and the team that utilises it better than the other wins 100% of the time.
Exactly. Spotting dodges the usual metrics, because other ships do damage based on your spotting. This can hide just how broken the mechanic is.

Try playing a DD at long range in smoke against one of these. Rounds that would normally pen a superstructure now bounce on the armored flight deck. Balanced.

I played a game while watching this vid. Thanks for the tips. I got 4 kills. spotted DDs and Subs for my team. Won the game easy. T9 Montana with unlimited Bearcats!

Also it has 5 Bearcats with 3 Tiny Tims. That are 15 Rockets launched while a single strike group from the midway only has 3 Bearcats with 3 Tiny Tims. So tier 9 BB has a better strike group than a Tier 10 Carrier

I have about the same sentiment about submarines (negatively) and Superships (neutrally), as well as the upcoming "HB" line for the USN (positively). Is it Hybrid BB or HB? Can I use HB?
T9 was the sweet spot where I could play ships and actually have my detection range mean something. Came up against a few of these on the weekend and it sucks. Put them in a CV game and you're perma-spotted more than usual. And being on the Asia server where many people don't like risks or challenges, there are sure to be a lot of these muddying the waters.
Even playing tier 7 is gonna suck eggs now because there's the possibility of being uptiered into this thing.

I really don't mind it that much tbh... I seem to have no issues wrecking them, maybe because all my main ships have fairly good AA so the rocket planes don't bother me all that much. Idk

Jumped back into the game after a few weeks off and ran into this ship on my first game, running in a DD. It was crazy how much they were able to keep people spotted with no real way to fight back. I had them come after me directly once and even with an American cruiser next to me he still managed to get through and dump a ton of damage (due to the fact that they went invincible once in the attack run).
The two biggest issues is that the planes do a ton of damage, get the invincible attack run, and even if we have a lot of AA it doesn't matter since they never run out of planes. These ships need to have a limited number of planes, or at least a system similar to a CV for rearming. Removing spotting would be awesome as well.
Imagine having a enemy CV pushing/doing damage, a sub pinging, and this ship running planes at you in a BB? All they can do is huddle together and hide at the edge of map. They don't have enough utility to combat it all.
On top of this is the fact that this overpowered gimick is pure pay-to-win, there is no way to get anything even close on a non-cv coal/research/tech tree ship.
Well it is for coal so you can choose to get it the real way still.
Also the American's are getting a tech tree hybrid line. It is in early access rn

I've seen a few of these in game and they are utterly devastating to DDs. I took a broadside of these in my Kit the other day and it ate up 75% of my HP. Unreal.

Ise suffers from weak firepower and eh TB with low damage, Kearsarge gets good damage from both.
Time to equip Bbs with Harpoon missiles , sounds about right
I was looking at getting either French or British specialized captains then I saw this for coal. I got it. Though I believe WG will nerf it in some manner, I'm happy to play a US ship that is in this current state. Along with my Ohio I final obtained too.
How long before the historical Japanese carrier subs enter the game? I-13 and I-400 classes.
Saw potato player with Kearsarge, they were literally running into the border of the map and missed every shot.

@@pegasus.0308 They will do as they did to Thunderer and Stalin: First pretend that they will solve the issue by removing it - thereby get people to spend money to race to get it, and then nerf it when they think the market has been milked dry, so they can more easily push out OP premiums in the future and get all those nobs who bought one of those to have to race for "the next big thing".
Don't spend money on that game. They won't keep their word.
As much as I DO NOT want to see any more strike-aircraft-carrying ships introduced, I'd love to see a German flugzeugkreuzer and/or flugdeckkreuzer introduced.
They were to ship all of their main gun turrets forward, either 203mm, 283mm and even 380mm; if my memory isn't complete shite. 🤪😂 Just a good childhood memory; reading and dreaming of these incredible hybrid ships. CVs with larger caliber turrets! What more could a kid want?👍🏻🏴

You didn't know. They took out fires stopping launching and recovering aircraft. Also just saying on that issue a high caliber hit on a flight deck even armored let alone a wooden one definitely puts a hole in the flight deck that you can't launch planes with.
The ships good. I bet it will be taken off the market in not to long and be one of the more rare ships in the game

It looks to me like a T9 Montana with a little less armor, a bit worse guns. But with Air Craft.
Ise & Tone, real ships = Balanced, maybe even too weak

Guns are weak, planes borderline useless, only thing I like about it is the secondaries.
Kearsarge is based on a real design and is not made up by Wargaming. At least get your facts right.
@@Ibuki01 "guns are weak"?! what are you on? this thing is an absolute monster. You can ignore the planes and play only guns and deal devastating hits. The secondaries are shit - yes she has more than other T9 american BBs but they don't have the accuracy or range to make them good.
@@mrboatface4023 In my admittedly limited experience, K's guns don't deliver. I actually feel the same way about NC, and Iowa. Colorado I like, Vermont I like, (and Montana,) but not the other ships.

Kearsarge was formed out of a joint Soviet-American exploration of a concept for a 406mm gun-equipped battleships the Soviets ordered, so naturally the Soviet inheritance would make this blyat at least somewhat high powered.

did they nerf this ship? It's not nearly as simple to hit ships with the planes as in this video - and I am struggling to do damage with the guns. Yes the HE is good, but doesn't seem as good as shown here.
Honestly i thought it would have been better if the gimmick had been the ability to deploy a fighter squadron anywhere on the map.

I won a Kearsarge in a Black Friday container. I have only used it a couple of times because I can't get used to the planes.
Just traded my Friesland for this ship n paid a difference of 1.5k dubs n i dont regret it. i got everything that destroyer can do n more besides ASW.

Kearsarge is a fun ship, broken, but very relaxing to play.
But I agree, the planes need to be toned down a bit. Maybe the health too.
DDs would beg to differ on these things being "fun", especially getting matchmaked against two of them at T9. I guess they can just play BBs instead.

The Kearsarge was a purpose built Battleship-Aircraft Carrier hybrid, while the other hybrids where altered after they had been built. So the Kearsarge is really well planned out overpowered abomination of a Warship.

The ship is not op at all times, but when you play it right at some good situations, thats where your team will dominate, and you can as well.
Having nightmares of grief squads, 3 teammates loading up in Kearsarge, devastating entire flanks.
Shouldn't this be a Soviet ship given it was supposed to be built for the SSSR?

Of course, the reason nothing like this existed in reality is it takes away some of the strengths of both a battleship and a carrier for the sake of putting more aircraft in the air. It creates a massive fire hazard in the middle of a battleship and kills a lot of the speed and concealment of an aircraft carrier. I'm not saying it couldn't work but the few real examples of hybrid battleship carriers then Japanse played with didn't end up making much of a, if any, difference to the war.
When tier 11 rolls in this ship will help put pressure on superships.

Gotta love Sealord Mountbatton to give wg props for this thing, call it well balanced and a little weak and judge the spotting as weak cause you don't shoot in that time

Terrible idea, so starting eith the guns they are meant for medium to short range which means if your a dd it's going to suck. So now long range yes it's a single flight of aircraft but in a game that has become saturated with carrier hybrids all around the same tiers there's so much air spam that all it takes is one round of aircraft to finish off a ship. Which btw these are he rockets so dds are now stuck with that. Also 7 127mm guns on each side as twin turrets that makes it Montana level secondary 127mm battery firepower
Played against a division of Kearsarges the other day. I was using my Buffalo. Concealment means nothing now. AA means nothing now. They focused me down with planes and guns and I did not have fun.
Buffalo is weak because it's free. It's peasant tier.
