How to Forgive Yourself of the Past | Eckhart Tolle Teachings

  • In this video, Eckhart taps into how the ego creates a false sense of identity and leaves us unable to forgive both ourselves and others through associating mistakes and wrongdoings to who they are, rather than seeing them as what they actually are: a manifestation of unconsciousness.

      I'm Sorry
For many years, I carried a deep sense of guilt with me. Which kept shifted, as soon as I apologized to a person for something. I carried the guilt with me and tortured myself for many years. Until I realized, the only person I really needed to apologize to, was myself. I have tortured myself the most. So every day, I apologize to myself, for what I did to myself. This is how I find my innocence; that I once lost, again. And by apologizing to myself, I release my guilt. And so I don't do anything to others either. Because I am at peace with myself and therefore, with the world. Therefore, if you carry guilt with you, apologize to yourself. Because you can't torture yourself and apologize to yourself at the same time. Tormenting inflicts sorrow and apologizing takes away sorrow.

@@clivejohnsonuk7721 I can only speak for what has resonated with me. These videos help so much. I was allowing my ego to dominate things. Feeling sorry or sad about the past. A person told me I needed to stop. It really shocked me but I realized she was right. Forgive THOSE in the past, have compassion for them and forgive and surround them the white light and send them that on its way. I do it daily! Also when you feel yourself slipping back, ask to be brought back to the present. Take a deep breath or two focus on now. I'm on same journey too. It's a learning process and we 're all learning as we go. Focus on present what's good now. See a bird or flower in the sun. Hug your dog. Sounds so simple but it helps not go there in your mind. Also, forgive yourself. Blessings and hugs.

The automatic mind needs a right and wrong, good and bad, for the mind it has to be someone fault, ours or someone else's, the automatic mind is part of our historic survival mechanism left over from our evolutionary past when we lived in the wild and danger was everywhere we didn't have time to think or rationalise.
The ego or inner chimp as some call it, is simply an automatic thinking mechanism that more and more people are now becoming aware of and learning to live beyond, its an evolutionary thing that's actually been happening for some time now.
100 years ago women were not allowed to vote here in the UK, but in the last 50 years we've had 2 female prime ministers, as a species we are evolving beyond the automatic mind and although we have a long way to go still, we are definitely making real progress.

It is called learning. No one is born a master of life. It takes trial and error...a lot of error...to get to mastery. There is no reason to hold past misteps against yourself. Let it go...forgive. Imagine a toddler learning to walk...it would be ridiculous to hold every stumble and fall against yourself. Years later, long after walking has been mastered...wouldn't it be ridiculous to hold onto the misteps from learning to walk? Wouldn't it be ridiculous to feel guilty for ever having stumbled and fell? It is quite natural and part of the learning process.

You cannot make something good that was not good without deceiving yourself and becoming dishonest regarding your feelings. Forgiveness here must be something that enables you to see another person clearly and to derive learning from that experience and from that relationship."

At that time, I heard and felt 'SOULS" around me speaking to me. I felt them. They said I should have compassion for her. I didn't try to hurt her, but I don't see why more could not be done for her like what was done for me.
I am what is called 67 now, but after reading 200 books or so, I know that I am an eternal energy and light being constantly being created by the electrical energy field being everyone calls souls. The quarks that are bursting forth spinning billions of times a second as 3 points of light are these souls. We are the holographic projections of these souls that everyone calls physical, except for me. So intensely and densely formed these bodies are that we don't see through them, even though they are light.
Death is dependent on being physical, BUT nothing is physical. INTELLIGENCE is holographic/electrical and so are we. We are saturated and immersed within this type of reality right now. We do our best not to hurt others while at the same time being taught by those that seek revenge for a death that does not exist.

And at times I slip into presence and everything does seem simple and effortless. But eventually I slip back into my conditioned reactionary self (like when reading the news, lol). It really does help to take some time to listen to Eckhart or read an inspirational book (like A Course in Miracles), to come back to the realization that what seems so complicated is actually simple and easy. Interesting perceptions! Seems like the difference between observing without the past, and thinking we are our reactive uncouscious thoughts, from our past pains and pleasures, like a computer program. I had a experience where I was judging my current situation to better times in the past, and it made me very depressed! I did it to myself! There was a part of me just observing this. So instantly I told that part of myself if it did not have something positive to say or a solution, to just keep silent. I thanked God for the realization, and noticed my peace of mind came back, then joy and love in my heart area, which started to expand and shot up to the top of my head and past. I noticed my mind was a lot more quiet for a couple days, and more observing and at peace. The old way, keeps trying to sneak back in, but that observational awareness is needed each time.

And I decided if I truly loved my ex that I needed to respect his decision to leave and let him go. I chose not to victimize myself instead I chose to use the experience to self reflect and see my part in the divorce and what kind of relationship I wanted. I am remarried now. It is our 7 year anniversary today and we are happy. I watched this video to help me separate from a family member, and I believe the same rules apply. Thanks for the reminder! ❤

Tormenting inflicts sorrow and apologizing takes away sorrow.d
