  • A quick video showing the traditional method of installing a 5 ring zulu watch strap.
    This method ensures no undue tension is placed on the spring bars of the watch.
    I'm using my Seiko Turtle SRP777 as the model, and a nice strap from Nato Strap Co.
    Music is courtesy of MC Cullah.

    You wouldn't think this simple, instructional video would get the hate that it is. Clearly a lot of people can't tell NATO from Zulu straps.

    Finally! I've seen dozens of 'how to's on the five ring zulu and have seen dozens of ways to do it 'wrong' in my opinion and finally, this video makes sense. Thank you. I almost cut one of my rings off ... it was "locking those two suckers" that I wasn't doing and couldn't see how that would be comfortable. Cheers

      this isn't a zulu strap. its a G10 style nato. zulus are single pass throughs without the foldover fabric. far as natos go u usually only pass the strap through the buckle once. the way he is doing it only shortens the strap for ppl with smaller wrists and honestly tying it through the last buckles like that doesn't offer anymore security than normal.

    ...but with this strap, I'm just a plain idiot xD no other way to sugarcoat it

    I just got a zulu band for the 1st time. I guess I must have super large wrists because if I do it the way in this video, then I only have the very last hole to use. If I just tuck it through the 2 rings, then I have 4 holes to use.

    • @thewristfund1595
      @thewristfund1595  Před 6 lety +10

      "Zulu" refers to the thicker material and bulkier rounded hardware style. You can have a 3 ring, 4 ring , or 5 ring configuration with Zulu straps. Of course with anything you can just disagree with me and think what you want!

    • @stevewarren4292
      @stevewarren4292 Před 6 lety +10

      @@thewristfund1595 Oh no, not disagreeing, just pointing out common knowledge. A proper ZULU doesn't have the retaining strap that keeps the watch from sliding off. A ZULU is just a single strap. I wear either occasionally.

      According to this one site you have it wrong. 3 Ring Zulu is one strap. 5 Ring Zulu is similar to Nato.
      www.natozulu.com/content/11-zulu-strap-vs-nato-strap-difference The round hardware, and beefier Nylon, makes the strap a Zulu.

  • @erikgenzer9776

  • @felipealmeida5721

    Nato strap, not Zulu bro. To be more precise, its a G10 watch band - original version was Admiralty Gray. Look it up.

    • @thewristfund1595
      @thewristfund1595  Před 4 lety +8

      A real nato strap has *square* keepers and there is no extra loop on the second piece of material to lock the strap behind the watch. Phoenix currently makes the official British Military issue nato straps and they do not sell any zulu straps at all. Specifications for NATO straps also include welded seams, not stitched. For all these reasons the strap in my video is not a nato strap. I'd gladly be proven wrong with whatever documentation you have to the contrary. I appreciate your interest!

      I wore mine fighting off drunk Latharios in Cancun...where it was serving me well...until I spilled tequila on it... which somehow set off some sort of weird molecular event resulting in an elastic failure causing my bikini bottom to fall to the floor. However, my watch was still intact after much hand to hand combat during the beachhead landing(s). I'm sure I won..they looked beaten to me...and my landing craft suffered little damage, having taken on no large artillery units during the skirmish..
