How to ollie effortlessly

  • The "casual ollie" is how I ollie over cracks. I use it when cruising because it's low effort ("effortless / lazy") and much more consistent than a normal ollie. If you're learning how to ollie, try a few of these, and it might help you get all your wheels off the ground.
    I also go over how to ollie higher briefly in this video; raise your back foot after popping, and push your front foot forwards to level out / bone the board out in the air.

    I’ve been skating for over 20 years, one thing I’ve noticed over the years, is that nobody ever says that less is more. Looking effortless is not as hard as people may think, and this tutorial applies to a lot of other tricks too, especially heelflips and front shuvs

    • @djinnxx7050
      @djinnxx7050 Před 2 lety +1

      If it looks effortless, you're doing it right. No one sees the effort to get to that point though, skating is a physical and mental thing. It's working both body and mind, I found it basically meditative.
      I found it's all about being relaxed, you've gotta be loose, you've gotta commit without fear. As soon as fear starts to seep in, you're going to start failing. That's what got me in my late 20s, no longer as young as I was, I started worrying about the time out if I broke something, I could no longer relax and fully commit, I started bailing a lot more on basic shit.
      It's kinda like playing guitar, the effort is frontloaded getting the basic foundation down, but once you have that foundation and start to feel comfortable, you relax into it, that's when you really start learning and making progress. But then you hit a wall, it gets harder to relax, you get frustrated, that's when the real battle starts.

    This finally gave me the motivation to learn how to ollie again. Been skating for quite a few years, but pretty much only as a means to get around since I don't have a car, but cracks and elevation changes are super annoying since I have to stop at them, this seems like the perfect way to overcome obstacles and start getting the basics of a good ollie down

    To do an even more effortless Ollie, start with your knees slightly bent as the should already be if you’re cruising along. Then pop the Ollie like in said video but bring your front foot up and in a more forward motion to prevent the fail from actually hitting the ground. They are really funny and you can hop over bumps and manhole covers with no sound and like ninja.
    It should also be said for a regular Ollie if you want to tweak it, bend your knees up to your chest as much as possible. If you do this during a 180 FS or BS if you keep your knees bent you will do full air rotation. If you want to land half way around and power slide the remaining degrees, straighten your knee on the leg that you popped with after you’ve rotated 90 degrees. Keep everything else the same and your core spinning exactly the same way. This trick is with straightening the knee.
    Nosebonks and other things are also fun to do with no effort to get over sidewalk bumps and things. Would be neat to see a video on those
