“Ballad of the Triangle Fire / Bread and Roses”: A Yiddish language world premiere

  • In commemoration of the 146 young women who perished in The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911 and in homage to the pioneering role that women played in fostering political, social, labour, and economic reform in its aftermath, the Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre proudly presents the Yiddish language world premiere of “The Ballad of Triangle Fire” and “Bread and Roses”.

    This is wonderful. I just played it for my Yiddish Club, as we did last Labor Day. It is so moving. Small correction: The death toll was 123 women and girls and 23 men. The way the newspaper headline was arranged, at first glance it appeared that all 146 dead were girls. Not the case. Best wished to everyone involved with DWYT.

      Brings me tear, but how many of our kids now anything about this. Do they know what the word Halutz is ? No.
      But they will know who won the pennent in 1901

    Beautiful I love it, and I love that I can understand most of the text without knowing the Language
    I know English and German and listening to Yiddish it sounds similar to Pennsylvania Dutch to me
    I wonder if I could hold a conversation with someone speaking one of those languages, like Swedes and Danes being able to talk using their respective languages
