    Unions are as important today as they were yesterday and they will be even more important, tomorrow!

    Thank you for this wonderful rendition. Workers rights and the rights of women seem more timely and important now than at any time in the last decade.

    As we go marching, marching in the beauty of the day,
    A million darkened kitchens, a thousand mill lofts gray,
    Are touched with all the radiance that a sudden sun discloses,
    For the people hear us singing: "Bread and roses! Bread and roses!"
    As we go marching, marching, we battle too for men,
    For they are women's children, and we mother them again.
    Our lives shall not be sweated from birth until life closes;
    Hearts starve as well as bodies; give us bread, but give us roses!
    As we go marching, marching, unnumbered women dead,
    Go crying through our singing their ancient call for bread,
    Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew,
    Yes, it is bread we fight for -- but we fight for roses, too!
    As we go marching, marching, we bring the greater days,
    The rising of the women means the rising of the race,
    No more the drudge and idler -- ten that toil where one reposes,
    But a sharing of life's glories: Bread and roses! Bread and roses!

      Especially now with being told we have about 10 years to make immense changes to how we treat the environment. This will not happen under capitalism. Capitalists will kill and destroy whoever or whatever they see fit in order to maximize profits. Due to the environmental damage done by capitalist excess and carelessness, we rapidly approach our darkest hour as humanity. Capitalism will kill us... Which is why this song brings tears to my eyes. It brings tears to my eyes because I hear the words and the pain and suffering behind them and think that if we don't make drastic changes fast, we won't live to see the day where socialism prevails. This could all be in vain. All the workers who fought, bled, and died in their fight for liberation. All the work done by the theorists. All the hope from the people for brighter days... gone. Though we must not accept defeat or sit idly by until the hour of humanities' doom. We must fight. Harder than we ever have before. There is hope. The masses are awakening. They see the problem and the solution, and are prepared to fight to the death for the salvation of humanity. When that war for salvation comes, we cannot accept defeat. We must not.

      Thank you for the words, we all should sing it again, not only in high heels and nylons. By the way, the original text says THE RISING OF THE WOMEN MEANS THE RISING OF THE RACE. We should not forget that men and women are biologial beings, part of those species who care for their offspring instictively. We will only be human beings when men and women regard each other as equal in a respectful way. --- The singers are beautiful, but in my eyes it is too much of a "man's dream" to include all the sorrow and distress that mothers experience in upraising children. The second stanza was changed, too. Originally it sounds: "As we come marching, marching, we battle too for men FOR THEY ARE WOMEN'S CHILDREN AND WE MOTHER THEM AGAIN.
