  • In this video I am planting a small 1/3 acre area wrapping around one of our corn plots. The brassica blends that I am planting are Antler Kings Honey Hole and Whitetail Institutes Winter Greens. I mixed in some daikon radish, soybeans, and wheat to add more diversity and attraction to the plot.
    This plot will be a hot spot to hunt in the late season. All the Brassicas and wheat will stay green long into the winter and the corn will help pull in deer from the surrounding areas hopefully during daylight. I only plan on hunting this plot in the late late season like late December and January but I have stands hunting to movements to this plot in the woods. It’s really hard to hunt over destination plots like this and get out without being detected. And the more you spoke the deer the better chance you have of making a nocturnal herd on your property.

    Just picked up a 44 acre farm. I want to do something like this I got about 20 acres of feild. Like to plant 10 acres of it at least.

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  Před rokem

      10 acres of plots is a lot. Not many areas have that many deer where you will need that much winter food. I don’t know your whole situation but whatever you don’t plant into food plot you should try and get as much brush/ trees and maybe some switchgrass to come up. As you know deer love that early successional growth habitat.
      There is a field on my dad‘s uncles property that was too wet for the farmer to get into it’s a small area and they didn’t want to tile it so it has slowly turned into great habitat over the last 10 years. The biggest trees in there are about 4 feet tall it took a little bit to get trees and brush going the first couple years it was mainly tall grass and weeds. It’s amazing the amount of deer sign in there now. Even with Goldenrod and weeds without any trees they really hang in there a lot.

      @@wisconsinwhitetail9744 well the Whitetail population was great until last year EHD put the hammer down on the populations. But I was always told to plant at least 20% of my land into food plots. I don't really like feilds. Reason why I want to plant it with corn and sunflowers. A crop that the deer can hide in. Then halfway through hunting season I'll brush hog 10 ft on the outside perimeter of it. I'm out of NY my closest big city is Oswego. So yeah Oswego County New York.

    When do you get first frost in Wisconsin?

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  Před 2 lety +1

      Usually the first hard frost is around mid October, some years it may be sooner like early October and other years later.

  • @rods-n-regscharters9099

    I like your videos but I need to ask you to slow your movements down a bit, especially when you are bending down to show your plants. Thanks and keep 'em coming.

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah I have noticed that too, sometimes it’s kinda hard to watch. I will work on that in future videos. I need to just slow down, but at the same time I don’t want to make 15 min long videos. 12 min is almost to long.
      Thanks for the advice
