  • In this video I am planting Antler King’s Lights Out Food Plot mix in 2 separate small kill plots. I am using the no till planting method to plant both of these Brassica food plots. Lights Out is about 90% oats and 10% Brassicas. I also mixed in some daikon radish to add some extra Brassica to the plots.

      I wish I could have made it a bit bigger, but it was enough work by hand. Maybe next year I will extend it a little if I have time.

    awesome job! the horse fly beginning was my favorite...they finally have slowed down here in south east Wisconsin

      Yeah they are slowing down a little but there is still enough out there. They seem to always start up around July 4 around here, and mid July to beginning of August is the worst. But by mid to late August they slow down and by September there is usually none.

    When I put in a new plot in an area like that I go over it with a 5' box scraper. I put the teeth down a little and go slow. It loosens up the soil, pulls many of the roots and the smaller stumps. After that, I use a drag, the same as you.

      It would be nice to get rid of the stumps but I put poison on the stumps right after cutting them and they are all completely dead. I only plan on doing no till plantings in that small plot with the stumps. Eventually after about 3-5 years the stumps rot out and break off and it will be better then. Until then I have to deal with them there.

    Throw some rye down on those bare spots!

  • @rods-n-regscharters9099

    You might have packed that 2nd plot a bit much. The tiny brassica seeds run out of energy easy. I'm not an expert I just listen to the experts. :) Good job, keep up the hard work it will pay off for you.

      Yeah I was thinking that too, but I have packed more than that and the germination was fine. Not sure what the problem is.

    what setting do you use on your earthway spreader?

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  Před 4 lety

      I use different settings for different seed. I am not exactly sure what setting I use for Brassicas, clover and rye can be planted very thick and grow well, Brassica you want to plant thinner.
