  • Bit of a redesign and build of a geodesic climbing frame, most half sphere climbing frames are a bit low to the ground so I made this one more of a sphere to get a better vertical climbing area on the sides of the dome.

I've built one of Paul's wooden hub-less domes a few years back. They look beautiful but they take quite a lot of timber ripping. Recently I purchased a 5 metre diameter dome kit using the steel struts similar to that shown in this video. It's amazing how strong the frame becomes when it's all bolted together.

Thanks for sharing the information. An issue has become a mystery to me. How much extra should be calculated on each side of the pipe compared to the value of the calculator and how much should be flattened on each side. And does the radius of the center circle of the hub decrease from the length of the pipe in the PVC dome?

    Appreciate your video
    I’m from saskatchewan Canada
We get extremely hot and cold weather with wind
I’ve been looking into making a 3v dome some 24ft diameter to use as a 4 season work area for larger projects and a green house
I have a small work area that I could manufacture the struts in. Construct in winter if it’s nice days around minus 10c
    Questions
What thickness of aluminum piping is used?
Size of hole drilled and length of bolts

makes me crazy when i see all these people grinding with no mask. I used to do that all the time, grinding with no protection at all. Take a look at the crap you are breathing in. All of the disc turns to dust then there is the metal dust and sometimes paint dust etc. It's mad not to wear a mask. I guess you could say the same about driving a car with the windows down, all the brake dust and other dust on the roads but lets face it thats going a bit too far. In the future of electric cars we will almost never use brakes as we can recharge the batteries with the kinetic energy, slowing down the vehicle in the process. Anyway i'm getting very sidetracked.

@@shaun6828 Probably due to new plastic off gassing in the sun. I don;t really like the smell of new cars. That's one of the reasons i like driving and maintaining older vehicles. I mean, most of them are close to the year 2000 + - a few years. I do have a 73 RV in USA which is a bit old to be efficient, but pollution wise for the amount of use it gets it's almost irrelevant by comparison of people who drive daily. Not much off gassing going on in that one!

Master " it"? Is "it" the project itself in this video ?' I hope so because I've seen many rabbit holes Paul has fallen into and made his way out of while designing and building what seemed to be easy to master dome projects. I've been watching him for years now and I keep coming back in the hope of witnessing another moment self actualization gained each time he surrenders to the will of the dome god placing his own will to the side.
