  • Intel (INTC) shares sink lower Friday morning after releasing less than optimistic first-quarter guidance than Wall Street was hoping for from the chipmaker. Intel topped fourth-quarter earnings estimates, but its wavering confidence in 2024 may be weighing on other semiconductor stocks.
Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger sits down with Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi to assess investor sentiment over the first-quarter outlook, detailing Intel's investment in its foundry - or semiconductor manufacturing - operations.
"There's a bit of an overreaction to Q1, but I don't run this business on 90 days and nobody should expect us to. These are long-term investments, and the transformation is well underway," Gelsinger explains.
Gelsinger goes on to detail Intel's expansion plans to match AI chip demand as tech innovators rollout new AI-powered PCs: "We just announced a new advanced packaging [plant] in New Mexico. We're well underway with our Arizona and Ohio expansions, as well as some of the international work that we're doing."

I do think its over reaction... i mean shld it drop 12% for profitable qtr but slightly lower guidance? A lot of semicon company might also guide lower in Q1, except for nvidia and asml

investor bros need to understand that intel is not a purely AI play. Intel is the backbone of so much cloud and ai infrastructure in the AWS, GCP, etc. datacenters. Not to mention the on-prem private DC's out there too. It's not just all about chat GPT-like solutions....

Intel drops almost every quarter and all we hear is "it's a bit of an overreaction". When do we get facts in numbers instead of words of lies?

It's not an overreaction - there's no AI growth.

And simply no facts in numbers, just hot words and lies. Capacity will come to the US (and west)? Yeah true but TSMC and others also expand in the US so where's the demand growth in revenue and operational income? Going down. Only share based compensation for the CEO is rising -> they've applied new accounting rules.

The problem of this guy is that he has no gravitas. However, he’s defo right. Analysts are always stupidly shortsighted and all that they can achieve is blindly creating bubbles or destroying value for millions of investors. Intel will be strongly supported by the US government, there is no doubt about that. But analysts know nothing about politics. I will buy it again when the price will be much cheaper.

stop paying lip services, your financial result already speak for itself, i will bet on TSMC, intel will never be able to catch up with TSMC, intel is not good at manufacturing leading edge chips at scale, eventually, intel will have all the chips outsourced to TSMC, simply because their foundry is not competitive, intel foundry will end up being huge financial burden for intel

Hard to say. Intel is one of the U.S. based company's. This is a good thing. They are priced lower than all the other chip company's. I think they are one of the company's working on neuromorphic chips. This could be huge! Time will tell.
