You may have heard that games and applications perform better with dual channel memory compared to single channel memory, but why is this the case, and how much of an improvement can you expect?
In this comparison Iâve benchmarked 16 different games in a laptop at all setting levels as well as 9 different CPU benchmarks to show you the differences in performance and help you decide if you should buy or upgrade to dual channel memory in your laptop.
Check the full review of the P950EP that I was testing with in the video here: âą Metabox P950EP Gaming ...
Update: I forgot to note that all memory was CL17-17-17-39

Thanks!
wowo satan calm down...
yes 2012, things has changed :E
Nice comparison..
My way to explain how Dual Channel works is:
-Single Channel is when you have a single straw going into a milkshake.
-Dual Channel is when you have 2 straws going into a milkshake.
You get double the milkshake with each sip in Dual Channel while you get "Bottlenecked" in Single Channel.
If you want to go further the Ram Speed is how fast you sip the milkshake and Ram Capacity is the size of the milkshake.
mmmm milkshakes đ„
Nice Explanation
That actually helped đ€
milkshake really brings all the boys to the yard
and latency? how often you sip the milshake?
Wow, didn't expect the fps difference between single and dual was that noticeable, thanks for this informative video btw, had pondered on this few weeks ago and you made a video out of it!
Yeah me either, I was quite surprised while evaluating the results!
Well, it's not noticeable. You can't tell the difference between 167fps, and 146fps. But yeah, pretty cool to know this.
Very noticeable, upgrading single 8 GB ddr 4 to dual 8 GB ddr 4 is the best upgrade Ive done in my life
@@mattevans1643 but you can notice 30 FPS to 50FPS

Holy crap I never knew this thanks plz continue this type of videos.
Will do!
This is the closest thing to a GPU upgrade that laptop users have.
Lol I'm watching this for exact same reason, I've 1x8gb ram, I am considering getting one more 8 gb ramstick
you could get an egpu box for 200 and get a rx 560 or gtx 750 ti and for 400$ you'd have a functioning gpu

Good job Jarrod you always seem to have good ideas for videos
Thanks! A lot of the ideas come from reading the comments, people always want to see all kinds of different things, I have a never ending list of ideas to work through đ
Any ideas what this performance info would mean for people with soldered ram in their laptop? If you had 4gb built in ram and need more than 8gb total ram do you just have to eat this performance hit?
I recently upgraded my Aero 17 from 16GB to 32GB because I routinely have multiple Adobe CC apps open at the same time, plus web development apps, and I was getting close to the 16GB limit. I swapped out a 2400mhz stick for a single 2667mhz 32GB stick and saw a minor speed bump just from that. I've been tempted to get a 2nd stick to fill out the 2nd slot, but I couldn't justify going up to 64GB of memory, since my workflow doesn't really require it. But seeing those performance numbers jump from single to dual channel in you video is just the excuse I needed. Lol. I guess I'll be installing the 2nd stick tomorrow.
Thanks as always for clear concise info. This is in my opinion *the* top tech/laptop youtube channel out there.
Thanks! Nice, let us know how it goes with two sticks!!
Just realized you're at 25K subs! Congrats! You deserve it and more!

This is literally true,I have GL65 with 8GB RAM. The performance of the entire system is bottlenecked (The Witcher 3 ultra Novigrad city - 50 high to 60 low fps ). I just ordered second 8 GB RAM chip (just about 30 bucks), and guess what, in the same condition I gain 10-20 fps. 16 GB dual channel (8x2) is the standard for a gaming PC
Nice! Yeah good gains for not much extra money!
Also, 8GB is a bottleneck now, 12GB is the new minimum.
I had a 1050ti, i7-8750h and 8GB RAM. RDR2 and Warzone were unplayable due to extreme stuttering. At first I thought it was just my GPU, but after some research, I decided to add another 8gb stick, so now I have 16 gb dual channel. I tested RDR2 and I experience NO stutter! Gameplay is MUCH better. My GPU isn't the best but biggest bottleneck was the RAM in this case
@@dufonrafal 12gb is 4+4 in dual channel +4 in single channel
It is much more practical and efficient to just get to 16gb ram with another 8gb stick

this is soo helpful i never knew about this such a big fps gain on low settings
Good to hear it was useful!
Was looking for this kind of video around month ago before I upgrade my MSI GE62 6QD with exta 8gb ram. Now I'm running 16gb in dual channel and I noticed a bit better gaming performance gaining few extra pfs and better lows. Happy with this decision.
Sounds like a nice upgrade!
This video was freaking brilliant!! Amazing how much of a difference this makes. I only today realised I had my desktop PC's RAM put in single channel on my motherboard. Changed it to dual channel and now very excited to get a performance boost in my games (I don't like playing at max settings and low frames, so medium to high settings are what I use).
Thanks! Yeah it's pretty crazy how much it affects results. Good to hear the upgrade helped!
@@JarrodsTech yeah, I can actually feel the difference when using the PC. Lol.
Very good video. I would also prefer dual channel memory no matter what.
Yeah me too, some places charge a little extra but the performance definitely seems worthwhile.
Great video, Jarrod! Like many others I didn't expect quite that big of a performance difference in games using a discrete video card. We've done a lot of low end gaming here using various NUCs and with Integrated Video, dual channel low latency memory is a requirement. When you're running low end, you need every frame you can squeeze out. Nice to know that it also makes a big difference in the upmarket gaming world!
Fantastic effort, clear, concise, I love your channel. More subs people!
Thanks Tom! Yeah I've heard that about integrated graphics but haven't had a chance to test it myself yet, maybe worth benchmarking in a future video!
Thank you! I have been telling my friends for 2 years and they still did not believe me that Dual Channel helps in every configuration, i was telling them to get 2X 8GB instead of 1X 16GB ... I saw huge improvements in PUBG the suttering is non existent anymore and i don't get any fps dips anymore, it helped with avg. fps in every game that i play, i get a lot more fps now and there is no more stuttering and there are no more fps dips.
No problem! Sounds like you need to send the video to your friends đ
My fps keep fluctuate is it because of single ram 32gb?
I've finally been able to get that second stick of memory for my Y540 i5 1660 ti. Crazy how many FPS you gain. Ghost Recon Wildlands at High preset 1080p gained roughly 15 FPS. Enough to step up to Very High :) Thanks for the video Jarrod! Best laptop CZcamsr!
This channel is the definition of quality!
Thanks!
I'm very glad I opted for 2x8GB instead of 1x16GB for my laptop when I upgraded from 4GB to 16GB.
Good choice!
Hii! Do the two ram sticks have to be the exact same speed in order for dual-channel to work?
@@seb.evidente7328 no. But both of the rams are going to work at slower rams speed. For example if you have 1 stick 2133 mhz ram and 1 stick 2666mhz ram they will both work at 2133 mhz.
@@yumurtake6927 Do the brands have to match? I'm on an Acer Nitro 5, I'm unsure about the brand of SODIMM ram my laptop came with, but I'm certain about the speed, if I buy say one stick of HyperX 2666 mhz will it work or should I ascertain the brand of ram that came w the laptop and match it?
@@seb.evidente7328 It should work but you should preferably have matching speed and timings, and matching brand is preferred too.
Hi Jarrod, it's been two years! Do you think you may do an update video with a slightly different approach (i.e., unbalanced dual channel's performance)? I think A LOT of top laptops (G14, G15, legion 7 slim, M16, etc) we saw this and last year have one soldered RAM, meaning the upgrade path will be, say 8GB soldered + 32GB sodimm. Would love to know the performance of an unbalanced dual channel. Besides, I don't think anyone has posted anything like this yet!! If anyone can do it, it's you!

Good video. I'm planning to upgrade my laptop ram but idk whether I should go for 16gb ram or 4gb ram, largely due to my laptop having 4gb ram soldered, so if I were to go for 16gb would it work as dual channel or single channel since it's not identical to the 4gb ram?
Relatively new viewer here, looking at this old video is soo weird. You end each sentence in the same way it's trippy
Still cant believe this channel only has 40k subscribers.
Getting there!
hey Jarod
As you know that i am going for the Asus Hero 2 which i am pretty sure that it has a single stick of 16GB ram
will it made a difference if i add an additional stick of 4GB
To be honest I can't say for sure as I've never tested mismatching different sizes, in many cases people report that it works without issue, but it doesn't seem to be guaranteed and it is still recommended to use same size/speed for best compatibility.
Same i also have a single stick 16gb in my msi, looking forward adding another 16 eventhough 32gb of ram is supper unnecessary
I just upgraded my laptop from 2013 to have 2 sticks of ddr3 4 gb 1600 mhz memory on it so it now has more ram and is in dual channel. also just discovered that my pc also has dual channel ram
And these sticks are exactly the same? So same brand and same latency for the 16 GB and 8x2 GB?
Hi my laptop has a single 16gb ddr4 2666 mhz ram.
Now I want to make it dual channel.
Will adding 8 GB ddr4 will do any good or I should add 16gb stick?
I don't want to spend unnecessarily.
I don't want to lose fps on single channel.
Yes same problem here
I think they need to be the same size. I haven't tested it myself, but I researched it and people that used different sized sticks reported that it was still single channel.
@@JarrodsTech can you test it sometime and let me know..will take a few minutes.
@@JarrodsTech i am going to buy hp omen 15 i7 8750H with gtx 1070 MaxQ design.

Yeeeeah... That's the problem of the asus rog strix scar II.. I'll upgrade that...

Yep. 2 x 8Gb sticks would of been nice...
Did you do it man ???

@@user-jw4oz4pk3t I bought another 16, now I have an overkill 32 gig ram, the boost is quite noticeable
I had a 70-80fps cap on a lot of games, no matter the settings until I put another RAM stick in, then it was giving me 120-140fps. Dumb thing was that I was told the laptop had dual-channel memory so I spent a week thinking it was a software issue
My MSI GS75 has an RTX 2060 and an i7-8750H with 16GB of RAM, but only one stick!
Iâve always noticed some below expected performances in more CPU intensive scene, after watching this video I ordered a second stick of 16GB, I donât need 32GB, but I hope that dual channel will make a difference!
same problem bro. i have a single stick 16gb ram. i think i will sell the 16gb and buy 2*8 because 32gb is unnecessary. i hope i get fps boost in CS:GO

Haha, I am actually đ still have my x58 triple channel machine under my desk from 2010.
I saw that from a previous vid. I used to own the Core i7 920 OCed to 3.8GHz. Probably the high point of my build was when I had a Radeon 4870x2 and a 4870 in Crossfire liquid cooled. That used to pull out so much heat that I used to use my computer to heat up my room đ

Nice video! Iâm thinking of upgrading my 8GB single channel RAM laptop to 16GB dual channel RAM! This video was super helpful and I know for a fact that I will definitely be upgrading my RAM!
Thanks Jarrod! I have a laptop with a 1060 and i7-7700HQ. Popular config, so I was always wondering why it was performing worse than expected (when I compared to different benchmarks on CZcams), as there were no problems with thermals and everything was good on software side too. Well now I know why exactly. Already -downloaded more RAM- ordered a second stick, should arrive in a few days. Good luck and keep up the good work!
No problem, happy to help! Let me know how it goes once the RAM completes downloading đ
Didn't even realise, I had only one 16GB stick in my laptop. Guess what happened when I added a second one (matching everything)?? ... 35% more performance across many games, similar to this video!
Nice boost!
Because you went to 32GB?
Hi Jarrod, I just want to say thank you for making this video anyway i really want someone advice for my problem, right now im using dell inspiron 7577 with 16gb 1 stick ddr4 ram.. so can i run dual channel by only buy 4 or 8gb ddr4 ram only? because buying a same 16gb ram will waste a lot of my money.. also what is the best brand suitable for my inspiron 7577? hope you can help me TQVM
Hey, no problem! If you currently have 1 16gb stick the best thing to do would be to add in a second 16gb stick of the same size and speed, ideally from the same brand as the existing memory for best compatibility. I'm not 100%, but I THINK you need the same size memory for dual channel to work, so 16gb+4gb or 16gb+8gb will probably not work in dual channel, you'll just increase the overall size.
@@JarrodsTech TQ for your reply, i see.. so the only way to make dual channel work is by adding the 16gb ram only right? sadly i wont buy cause is little bit expensive compare to 8 or 4gb ram.. BUT if i buy 8gb ram ddr4 with the same manufacturer and speed (2400mhz) as what i use right now will it turn the dual channel mode? cause on my country (Malaysia) ram is so expensive especially 16gb.. anyway TQ so much for your reply i really appreciate it, đ
@@Amrie47 "BUT if i buy 8gb ram ddr4 with the same manufacturer and speed (2400mhz) as what i use right now will it turn the dual channel mode? "
no it doesn't, you need same speed, same size, same manufacture, same type....to make it become dual channel....if you have 16 GB stick right now, and want to get dual channel performance, the best way is either, buy another 16 GB stick, or sell you current stick, and get 2x8GB KIT RAM....
Ciao
@@andresinaga9869 wait... same manufacturer? Cant I add a ram with the same size, same speed but different manufacturer? Like corsair and kingston together, but everything is the same.
@@muhammederenkaradag3881 you can, but I won't recommend either. That's why KIT RAM is always recommended. Because of their 100% compatible.
Can these improvements be seen even if gpu utilisation is at 100% as it is? If so what's the logic behind that
It solved my questions on how to know what you have + the difference in performance! Tnx!!
Like SLI for RAM! :D
Haha yeah I guess that's one way of thinking about it đ
Not quite. This is because the CPU can access both channels of ram at the same time, so it is less like SLI and more like RAID 0.
Current SLI technology alternates between which cards render what frame at what time. This means that in SLI the two (or more) GPU's never work together to render a single frame, as this is the issue that DX12 Mgpu effectively solves.
Can I run a 8gb + 16gb to give me 24 gb. Will it still run in dual channel?
Even i m planning same. Hav u done it? Does it work ok?
Nice , I didn't knew the difference can be that big. Especially the 1% is huge in slot of games.
Yeah dual channel can help reduce stuttering a fair bit I've found due to the 1% low improvements.
@@JarrodsTechI forgot how important it is. I think I've seen hundreds of not thousands of benchmarks but all have dual channel test beds by default and I took it for granted.
See how single/dual channel memory affect AMD 3750H laptops here: czcams.com/video/FOtmR4opHzU/video.html
Thanks for the video Jarrod! Recently got the Asus Hero 2 with only 1x16gb of 2666Mhz RAM and was disappointed when I saw it performed worse than the benchmarks i was seeing online. So now I want to upgrade!
But my question is, do you think adding another 8GB stick would be enough, or do I need to add another 16gb to see more benefits? I don't need all that RAM but I don't know what's better know coupled with my current RAM.
I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me, thanks!
i got dual channel, and dont really notice much difference, but i did raise the fps cap from 72 to 144. i think its because of the games i play. realistically around 10-15fps better, but nothing special. on the bright side nothing got worse and i found it at a good price.
I know i am very late to the party, but isn't the Single and Dual channel RAM more important for onboard graphics ? (like Intel UHD and AMD Vega 3/8/10)
I've see videos with around double the performance in favor of Dual channel in games, but the videos are made by people with under 1000 subs and with no talking....
Any thought on that ?
Would adding another 8 gig stick of 1600mhz ddr3 ram to my 5 year old laptop (i7-4712HQ+GTX850m) improve my fps?
And if yes, by how much since you showed in the video that the most improvement is at the lower settings(in acc. to my gpu)
How about (2x4) vs (2x8)
The 2019 dell g3 has (2x4)
Nice video....I have a doubt...will upgrading to dual channel memory effect battery backup?
Thank you so much for this video man!!! I had a single 16gb stick and added one more single 8gb stick from a compatible brand and my fps in benchmark for CPU limited games (Far Cry Primal and Rise of The Tomb Raider) went up by around 8-10 fps!! You would probably get even more gains with another 16gb stick (instead of the unmatching size 8gb), but it's pretty pricey and I'm happy with the performance boost!!
Good to hear you were able to boost performance!
Hi,I want to know what type is your laptop's WiFi card. I have the same WiFi card and I can't figure out whether it's a mini pci-e,ngff or something else
thanks for the video mate, your channel deserves more attention
Thanks Mohamed!
Great video dude. Lines up with what I saw when testing a single channel Aero15x vs Dual channel GS65 - 1% lows in CPU intense titles were my biggest problem. Vermintide 2 was the hardest hit of the games I play to the point where intense fights were not fun on the Aero it was like someone dropped an anvil on my CPU, responsiveness dropped off a cliff. I prefer gaming on lower settings to get that smoother/higher framerate and for this it's dual channel all the way.
Gaming laptops should be shipping with dual channel ram, I get what Gigabyte is doing here trying to make it cheaper to upgrade to 32g for content creators. But for the vast majority of folks who will never use past 16GB this just inflates the price of the laptop unnecessarily.
Thanks! Yeah if I get the Aero 15x I'll definitely be looking to go dual channel, thanks for sharing your experience with that in the other comment! Yeah dual should be the way to go, or at least give us an option to pay a bit extra to get it if we want it! Razer at least seem to be advertising their Blade series as having dual channel, so that's good.
Great video and explanation dude
tested 16 games, took 40 hour, editing video 5 hours, writing script 3 hours > 11 min video, dedication. thanks
Cheers! Yeah this one was a lot of work haha, so good to hear some people have found it useful đ
You may find it interesting to repeat the test with a quad core CPU and then compare the 8 thread percentage differences to the 12 core percentage differences across the same range of games.
One thing that you have not considered in your review though, is that the 16GB single ram stick are dual Rank chips that allow higher levels of interleaving that you cannot get with the 8GB single rank sticks.
Yeah could be interesting, there are a few other things I want to do like seeing if dual channel 2133MHz will beat single channel 2400/2666, just a case of what laptops and memory I'm able to loan haha
The performance differences that you are seeing are caused by the same thing that causes the Ryzen R7 vs 8700K 1080p gaming performance differences (in addition to the inherently higher latency of the infinity fabric vs ring bus). It is not so much memory bandwidth, It is more the limitations that each channel has for concurrent memory access requests. Without any memory access competition from a GPU, each channel can only service two requests at a time. The higher the core count, the more threads you have sitting idle queued up waiting to access memory and not processing instructions.
When you add GPU memory access requirements to the mix in a game, the CPU has to compromise some of the concurrent access capacity increasing the the length of the queue. As each thread has to process instructions once it receives the memory data, the requests are not constant but more bursty in nature. The point where dual channel memory causes the threads to queue to the point where it impacts performance is somewhere between 12 and 16 threads that are all trying to concurrently access the dual channels.
The Dual/single test you are doing has a similar effect except it reduces the number of threads that are required before the performance impact can be observed.
Oh I see, thanks for the explanation, yeah that makes quad core testing sound worth comparing.
Do the bios of the 8750h bios allow you to disable cores?
You may be able to simulate a 4c/8th i7
I didn't see the option but I assume would vary between BIOS so might have to check some others.
So, what is the best for me, 8GB RAM+16GB RAM, 8GB RAM+8GB RAM, or 16GB RAM?
thanks for an amazing vid! Now I'm glad I run dual channel in my laptop :D
also this means... that Aero 15x which comes only with 1 stick... is seriously underperforming, and it;s ALREADY showing great results in games. Being overclocked, undervolted and having another 2666 stick of memory added it's performance should be even higher.
No worries! Yeah that's true, Matt in another comment talked about his performance improvement with the 15x going to dual channel a bit, if I end up getting that I'll definitely be upgrading it.
Best video... I was thinking about this for a while.

For people using integrated graphics, dual channel will quite literally double your performance because in most games we're gpu bound. Since igpu use system memory which is much slower than modern vram, dual channel's double memory bandwidth vastly improves performance.

I've literally spent the last year of playing Overwatch constantly getting annoyed due to inexplicably low framerates, after trying every single solution I could find online. This video finally explains it. Thank you for this, more people should be aware of the difference dual channel memory makes.

I recently built an i5 9600k PC on my channel and I used just a 16gb single stick of DDR4. The slots can use 16gb each so I planned to fill them slowly.
I didn't realise a single channel config would hurt performance so much, I researched this and after Gamers Nexus video I thought the difference was within margin of error.
Ill pick up another matching stick, the small gains from dual channel and the small gains for more ram should make a difference.
I think it will help, but yeah I've seen the video you're referring to, it might make less of a difference depending on the specs though, I think if you have good specs in terms of CPU and GPU then it's worthwhile as a next step upgrade.
One thing in which I have noticed HUGE differences is MATLAB. Being a very common application used by many engineering students who also play games, I guess they should know that MATLAB is anywhere between 30-40 percent faster on dual channel RAM than on single channel RAM. On scripts that take hours to run, that can amount to serious time savings which can be used to do other things (i.e. play games :) )
Oh cool, I'll have to keep that in mind if I do future testing đ
Wow! I couldnt even think on that difference. I'm wondering about DDR3 too. I have friends that have DDR3 systems with 8GB in Single Channel Mode. That's a huge surprise!
Yeah took me by surprise when I first saw it, and now I just wonder why so many y companies try to save the cost of two sticks of memory by using one when they could make their product look / perform so much better for a tiny bit extra. I haven't done the testing with DDR3 myself so I can't comment on the difference there.
And i was wondering why i was getting 60 on very high settings in gta while having a gtx 1080, well thanks for the informative video, I'm going to upgrade to 8x2
isnt 1080 older
I never know it will be this much gain, thanks for the insight. Btw how about 2400mhz vs 2666mhz ? Is there noticeable perf difference ?
I haven't tested in a laptop so results may be different, but I've tested different memory speeds here: czcams.com/video/PR68C2bUgFI/video.html
Why you tease meeee with a dell g7 thumbnail when the g7 review coming!!!! Lmao
Haha sorry, I forgot to take the thumbnail photo before sending the laptop that I tested with back, so the G7 was what I had available đ I'm working on the 3x G7 videos at the moment though, expect one this weekend, probably gaming benchmarks, then thermal testing next week followed by the full review.
Jarrod'sTech okay gotcha excited for those
Sir, can you please help that,
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 has 8gb Soldered and 1 slot is remaining for RAM.
Can we add 16gb DDR4 3200 mhz stick to there, means it'll become (8+16).
Is this safe..â perform well..âMany people says that it isn't safe.
Company is saying that it is expandable upto 24gb..â
Please Reply. I'm in Dilemma đđ€
I want to know this too
Unfortunately, my laptop doesnt support dual channel. It's an ideapad l340 gaming
Same here lol
Like a boss! đ Great job!
Cheers Jose đ
Just the video I was looking for. Thanks, Jarrod!
No problem!
Iâm currently using dual channel for Nitro 5. And I gotta say, itâs already a beast in FPS games. đȘđ»đȘđ»đȘđ»đȘđ»
Thanks for this video, I have a laptop with that particular specs, the only difference is That I have i7 7700 HQ but only one 16 Gb ram at 2400 GHz, now I know I have to buy the other ram to finish that bottleneck
Yeah going to dual channel should be an improvement there!
Is it the same for laptops and desktops, where dual channel memory means 1 channel has 2 slots for ram sticks, so a dual channel has 4 slots for ram sticks?
Yes, if it's a dual channel platform. If it's a quad channel platform then 4 sticks is needed for quad channel (eg threadripper).
This video really helped me, thanks a lot
No problem at all!
Wow, surprised how big the difference is. Substantial.
Yeah it definitely matters đ
Hi Jarrod. I recently bought a laptop with only a single channel with an 8GB 2400mz memory. Is it worth the upgrade to 16GB? Since I am a total newbie with laptops, I was not aware that there are single and dual channel laptops.
So does dual channel matter even more on systems with weaker GPUs? I've only got a 1050ti and a 7700HQ so I can't max out the settings in most games. Would a second RAM stick benefit me the same way?
Glad if someone could help :)
I think it matters more in games where the CPU is used over the GPU, lower settings in games for example, or if you have a lower GPU. That said I haven't done extensive testing so can't speak on experience, I've only tested the 8750H with single/dual channel.
@@JarrodsTech thank you very much for your answer! I think I'll have to save up some money to afford another 16GB stick
The ROG Zephyrus S GX502, a laptop I'm considering buying, comes with 16GB RAM soldered onto the motherboard but has one additional RAM slot for dual-channel capability. I personally think 32GB RAM just to achieve dual-channel is a bit overkill, but I would love to hear your thoughts.
Technically you can use a smaller stick, as long as it runs at the same speed/timings dual channel will be possible, it's just not ideal as once that space is used the rest of the soldered memory will be single channel performance. Personally I think if they're going to take the crap approach of soldering memory, make it bigger as it can't be upgraded, eg the GX701 had 8gb with the 8th gen laptop but the 9th gen they upgraded it to 16gb which is better.
Point taken. The GX502 is 16GB right out of the box, so at least thereâs that. I guess Iâll just stick with single channel then since adding a smaller RAM stick seems useless if the soldered 16GB will run single channel performance anyway once the smaller stick is used up. Thank you!
Honestly compared to the price you're spending on the machine I think it's worth just getting a 16gb stick, the boost from dual channel vs the price of 1 stick is worth it in my opinion.
This is a major increase for most laptops with integrated graphics. It's even more dramatic for them because of the graphics sharing the main memory bandwidth. You can virtually double that bandwidth just by adding an extra RAM stick to make the machine dual channel. It's a huge leap.
Yeah I have heard that, considering doing another video but the same test on integrated graphics in future, just depends on time and if I'm able to get more memory to test with.
wow i'm so impressed ! why do manufacturers even put single channel if the difference is so huge ?
Just trying to cheap out I guess, they can still say "16gb of RAM" and save some money by using one stick, which generally costs less than 2x 8gb, at least that's my guess anyway đ
make u can upgrade in future
Wow, I never expected there would be such significant difference.
Yeah me either, glad I did the testing for myself!
a very good video jarrod and the results were suprising.may i know does 32 gb ram with (16 gb *2 sticks) vs 16gb ram (8gb ram * 2) have the same performance or the amount of ram also effect to the performance?
I would suspect so (haven't specifically tested that), I do have an older video comparing games with different memory sizes (2x 8gb and 4x 8gb so not quite the same) and the results were within margin of error ranges, most games/applications don't need that much, but in both cases you're taking advantage of dual channel speeds.
If a laptop has two RAM slots and Initially there is 8GB RAM in one of the slots and the other one is empty. So now if one 8GB RAM is added to the empty slot keeping the other slot as it is, then will the laptop become dual channel RAM laptop?
So this is correct right..?
I just bought one stick with same i have on my fx553vd. I hope it works. Good infos man.
Good luck!
