Thank you so much for your help in understanding my random purchase!
Anytime! Hopefully it works out for you!
@@SarahStyleDesigns This is going to sound odd but, I compare the grooves of the Glass Pen to the grooves of a Rigatoni Pasta noodle....
😂 exactly 💯
I have a tip for a gradient effect! I haven't tried it yet (because my pen hasn't arrived) but:
You dip your pen in any ink color and use it about halfway until it runs out, and then using a pipette or other dropper, drop some ink on top of the nib (the part closer to handle) and when you write the colors will blend ever so slightly at first and then gradient
Thanks for sharing Ivy! Yes love that technique!! Can't wait for you to get your pen!
I want to try that too!
I just inherited a Venetian blue glass dip pen from my late great grandmother. I am planning on using it for the first time tomorrow
Yay! That's awesome and so special! Let me know how it goes!
This was exactly the info I've been wondering about, and you explain so well! My daughter really wants one of these pens, so thank you for making my Christmas shopping much less stressful
Thank you Julianne! I appreciate that feedback so much. I hope your daughter loves it! Let me know if you have further questions!
Oh my your good... mine just arrived today from Amazon! I so excited. I've been so discouraged trying to master large brush pen lettering. I'm getting good at mono script and Faux Calligraphy and small brush pen stuff as well but...I accidently landed on your channel.. seriously it was a gift from my Angels...I knew instantly I could and should try this form of lettering. So here I go!
I just got one of these for my birthday and this is very helpful, thank you!
Happy Birthday! And thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for a great - normal speed - video that truly helps understanding how this will work (waiting for my first glass dip pen). 😊😍
Yay! They are really fun and beautiful! I'm always super cautious with mine because I can be so clumsy sometimes!
I’m currently waiting for my first glass dip pen, I’ve been very into using fountain pen inks in my artwork lately and my fiancé was kind and allowed me to pick one for my birthday gift. The reason it’ll be here a month after my birthday was my fault entirely, I thought the thing said “made with glass from Thailand” turns out it actually said “made with glass IN Thailand” so I’ve been patiently checking my mailbox everyday for two weeks now as it’s finally getting close to my state! All this anticipation has given me plenty of time to practice freehanding floral designs too!
Yay! Hopefully you have gotten it by now! Yes I love doing florals with a glass pen, it's so fun!
@@SarahStyleDesigns I diiiiiid it’s amazing! This is definitely such a unique way to sketch I love how water is like an eraser of sorts
Just ordered a pen per your recommendation, as others haven't been as free flowing or consistent for me. Thanks for the discount code AND for the specific ink recommendations (both what to use & what to avoid).
Thanks so much! Yes I used to have so many issues with other pens. I just about gave up on glass dip pens. I was happy when I found this one. I hope you have the same luck!
This is such a helpful video 💗 thank you so much, Sarah for this great video ❤️🌸
Thanks for watching! I'm so glad you liked it!
THAT WATERCOLOR AS INK TRICK IS AMAZING!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Tip : Regular notebook you can see the glitter inks working just fine ! More then that perfect on regular notebook papers ! 📒 🙂 🗞️📜 It look like metallic Pencils or Glittery pencils when you write on a regular basis paper ! 🖋️🖊️ 📝✏️
Omg, I’ve been looking at heaps of glass dip pen videos today…. and I finally found someone who has the exact same pen as I have that I bought 2 years ago and still have never used! But it’s so darn pretty with the pink flower insude, aye!
this was really eye opening, I actually bought a whole set of manga pens that I tried to use with gold ink and none of them worked, I thought they are garbage but it's probably glitter ink !
Oh my gosh I can see myself dropping this 😣
I always get so nervous about this same thing too!
This solved my all problems of using glass pen .
I ordered glass pen from aliexpress. And I can't wait to use that.😃
Thank you .
Yay! Good luck, I hope it works well for you. Let me know if you have any further questions!
Thanks 😃
thank you so much! i want to get one of these for my sister for christmas :) so your guide really helped me!
Yay! I'm glad I could help! What a great sister you are!
Oh I just got a pen and ink I'm ready to experiment now. :)
I bought a glass dip pen.... I broke it two weeks later....😥
SO I bought another one! They are too much fun and are absolutely gorgeously designed.
Oh no I'm so sorry yours broke! Yes I'm always super scared I'm going to break mine too!! I'm glad you were able to get another one!
@@SarahStyleDesigns Hopefully I can take better care of this one! It’s ironic, mine looks a lot like the one in your video except that its blue.
I'm the first timer to use a glass dip pen, and I found the ink flow and the line thickness are different depending on the angle and the spot of the pen and the pen's nib.
I always need to try to find a sweet spot for the ink flow and the line thickness by twisting or angle down the glass dip pen.
Great video, very informative, excellent style :=) I learned a lot! You are a very good artist and teacher. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this feedback! I truly appreciate it!
Very informative. Thank you!
The glass dip pen I have is J Herbin brand I have been testing out on various inks so far it writes well with no drips or clogs. I used Distress stains and Dylusions ink sprays these are normally used for mixed media paper craft they work okay the stains tends to be lighter while the sprays have more dye tends to be darker. I tried on J Herbin les subtiles scented inks and writes better. This is fountain pen ink and smells like lavender. I love to experiment with different mediums and brought this glass dip pen from watching one of Peter Draws video. I was bit nervous using the pen because glass is so fragile. I had a glass dragon and eagle decors they both break. If the products doesn't work well usually fault in manufacturing process.
Thanks for all this wonderful information! Sounds like you have been testing tons of different inks I love that! I totally agree, its a fault in manufacturing!!!
The water colors you use are beautiful, what kind are they? I signed up for your class - this is new to me, such a beautiful art - I am excited to give it a try!! Thank you for sharing!!
The watercolors are handmade by a company called Hydracolour. You can check out their Instagram account. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!
thank you so much!! i just discovered glass dip pens on another channel and have been looking at a few videos. yours was very informative and covered a lot of bases!!
Aw thanks so much Trisha for this comment! I appreciate it!
Wow!Thank you @sarahstyledesign I love your way of telling. I will be soon ordering ot for myself
Thank you! That means a lot. I really appreciate it!
I will get it delivered by 31
For the glitter issue I would imagine that you would need a glass dip pen with a bigger bevel.
So so so beautiful sarah ...love your videos and these pens ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊
Thank you so much!
Ooh, I have the exact same one she opened in the beginning of the video
Yay!!
Just ordered mine! So excited
Yay! Love this pen, hope you love it too!
@@SarahStyleDesigns just arrived and I love it too! Thank you for your video :)
Thank you for your help! I just got my first glass pen today as a early birthday gift from my husband! I'm really excited to try using it but wanted to get some advice before I ruined it in ignorence.
I just bought a glass dip pen yesterday on Amazon. It looks almost exactly like yours! Mine is a light blue though.
Hope you like it!
Thx so much 4 this video, so very helpful and thx só much 4 sharing the free class, i signed up 4 it and will start when the pen arrives, it is my second , the first one did not flow well with the ecoline, than i saw that there was a chip off, although i thought i got the pen intact 😒🙄🤔, really hope this next pen will be ok, but really wished i saw your video sooner, cause i did not read all the reviews, had no idea that some are manufactured wrong 😩😫
This was very informative, thank you.
use a fountain pen is so good i love that fountain pen😇😍
Hi! Off topic (excellent video review btw!) but can I give a little advice for your nails (I’m a nail tech)… be sure if you do dipping, to smooth out your nails before final top coat. Use an e-file and get them nicely filed and shaped, then dust off and apply top coat. I as a tech kept looking at your nails more than the pens! Hehe 😊
I bought a glass dip pen last week.
Yay! Good luck with yours!
I have it worked🎉
So I heard about a glass dip pen now I have been personally using food coloring with water and using a sharpened chapstick so it works the same
Wow I've never heard of sharpened chapstick, that sounds so interesting!
I'd like a glass pen as decor in my office, I suppose I'd use it for extremely important documents.
Bought one from wish. Hope it comes!
Does it work?? I orderd one from aliexpress.
Informative! Thanks so much!
we have the same dip pen! it's very educational :') in about to start my journey with Journaling. I really like VINTA INKS, they're really gorgeous
I got one for Christmas! Gave it a good try, just need to figure out how to use them best.
How do you stop the blot at the beginning?
I always make sure my pen is nice and clean before I start by wiping it off with a cloth. Then once I dip it in the ink I drag it along the ink bottle to get off the big gob.
I would buy like yours' I love glass pen and i ordered but it is not coming home due to corona. Lol.
Aw bummer I'm sorry!
😁😁😊😊
TBH, I’ve had the worst luck with glass and even acrylic dip pens. The tips are always rough and not smoothed out - very scratchy and inconsistent with what kind of line is produced. I don’t know if they’re supposed to be like that or if it’s because I admittedly purchased inexpensive ones online. However, even my Moon an acrylic dip pen was also rough and inconsistent at the tip. Curious to know if that’s just how they’re made or if the more premium ones are smoother.
I use India ink and it works amazingly
Omg. Your Maine Coon is beautiful.
Oh that's great to know thank you!
I ordered one from Lazada and it comes with a quill pen and 5 mini bottles of ink, but as of now I'm still waiting for it to arrive in the mail.
If anyone needs an update about the product just tell me😊
Update po??
I thin down my windsor and Newton gold ink with water
Oh - I loved this video. I want a glass dip pen so badly. However, I have developed a tremor and am also very clumsy. Therefore, I fear I will break it right away.
On a different note...where did you get that set of what appeared to be gorgeous handmade watercolor half pans? Did you put that palette together yourself? I want that too! :)
Thank you for sharing your time, creativity and expertise with us! Cheers from New Orleans.
I am very worried about breaking my glass dip pen as well. They are for sure super fragile!
I got the handmade watercolors from Hydracolour. You can find her on Instagram and then there will be a link in her bio. I did put the palette together myself, it's just been done over the years! Thanks so much for your support Barbara!
Amazon has them.
I love calligraphy and I'm finally going to get a glass pen ... thank you so much for your help .... Can I ask question?
Yes please ask away!
Hi Sarah. I'm your new subscriber. From the Philippines. I am praying to have a journaling Bible. I'm already daydreaming about having one and start coloring along the devotional journey when I saw this kind of pen/material stuff. It's good to have seen your vlog. If ever I get to have a Journaling Bible, would you suggest to use that glass pen for the bible pages? Salamat for the answer.
My glass pens didn't like Speedball ink. Don't know if it had to do with the ink, or the pen, or both.
i have this lx glass pen and the ink is so glittery
Thank you so much!
Also, Windsor & Nutone has non glittery (metallic) ink.
Is it ok to use sumi ink with glass pen?
Yes absolutely! Just test it out before writing on a final product just to make sure the consistency works with the pen!
Hi Sarah, I came across your wonderful video because I've been researching the glass pen, and I really want to get a customised one.
Do you know any one who handmake these glass pens? If not, do you have a favorite seller you can possibly recommend?
Hello! Thanks so much for watching. I don't know of any that make a customized one. I can recommend going here though. store.artventure.xyz/?ref=SARAHSTYLE It has my referral link included. But I can highly recommend this glass dip pen. I have used others and they do not work well at all. The ink on this one flows really well!
@@SarahStyleDesigns Thank you :). I'm gonna check it out!
I would like to try one of these but knowing me I am sure to break it the very same day. I tend to drop my pens and pencils more often than I would like to admit.
I have never been able to get these to work at all. I've had a set for years. The tips are fine, came with its own ink. Literally does nothing but drip ink everywhere and it simply doesn't work. Never has since day one. Got it as a gift.
It honestly could be the pen. I had a glass pen that did the same thing. It wasn't made very well unfortunately..
@@SarahStyleDesigns That seems to be the main issue whe they just "don't work". Bought them a good 10yrs ago now and literally never used them. 7 inks and no pen. Lol. Thank you! 💙
Thank you so much for sharing this. May I ask if you might know what dip pen nib or fountain pens work best with these gold inks you showed in the video? I’d like to be able to draw thin gold lines with gold/iridescent inks for my paintings but have not found the right combination of ink and pen yet. Thank you so much in advance! 💖
hey! so im now a calligrapher, and im testing out the glass dip pen i got for Christmas (ive been so worried to try it cause i thought i was gonna mess it up xD). We just got a 6-pack of Windsor and Newton ink, and I was wondering if (aside from the glitter issue) its a good brand and ink? also, any tips would be greatly appreciated, as i have my own barely launched small calligraphy business (Mint to Be Calligraphy
Yes that kind of ink would be perfect for it! Practice is the best way to see improvement. I do have a free calligraphy course. www.sarahstyledesigns.com/free-calligraphy-basics
Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@SarahStyleDesigns Thank you so much for the response! I actually do have a couple more questions. My glass dip pen chipped and is no longer usable, so I was wondering if there are any good quality glass dip pens that you would recommend? It chipped as I was working on calligraphy for a wedding, so we bought the Tombow Fuednosuke pens as a replacement (which are amazing if anyone was wondering :)). And also, what inks do you recommend? The Windsor and Newton inks really aren't as good as i was hoping. They dry on the pen far too quickly, and as a result, don't really write smoothly. Thanks in advance!
Can I not use regular ink for glass pen? Plz guide me!
Windsor and Nutone has two types of inks. Drawing inks and calligraphy ink. The drawing ink is thinner.
I have the Windsor Newton inks and they aren't compatible with the pen I'm using. Same issue where they just don't flow but mine are just plain colors, nothing fancy.
That's so interesting! It must be something they used to make them, which is a bummer because I'd really love to use mine with them!
What is the best type of paper to use with these pens? I’ve tried notebook paper and writing pad paper and the pen seems to collect fibers from the paper and I also get some lots absorbing into the paper. Also where would I find the best paper to use with these pens? What are the best places to order from online? Thank you in advance.
I use Canson XL Watercolor Paper. It's thicker so it can withstand the juiciness of the ink! You can get the paper from Amazon
I thought you were going to break the nib off your brand new pen.
This one looks like the one I purchased for like $9? I didn't see any reviews on it tbh
Whats the use of thr feather like thing with thr glass dip pen
I HAVE THE SAME PEN!!!
There is a very tight rubber tube like cap on my glass dip pen and we can't get it off. Any thoughts?
Maybe try putting it in a cup of hot water and seeing if it will slip off then. It was super tight on there for me too, but then as time went on it stretched out more!
i have the exact same pen and stand i got mine at a thrift store uwu
Oh awesome! Great find!!
Can we use any liquid ink for these pens?
Loved ur video.. cleared all my doubts...
Yes but some inks doesn't works like the one that is too much thicker so OK?
I have this glass dip pen
Yay! They are so lovely!
I saw this clip from Instagram where you painted a metallic watercolor on its nib, but when I tried it, it didn't work 😭😭😭
Can I know what that glass stuff with flower design is for
It's a glass dip pen, and then the other thing is a pen rest
interesting
and i subscribed
Thank you I appreciate it!
I tried applying metallic watercolor but it didn't work 😢
I have that exact same pen but it is not working for me! And I SPILLED AALL THE INK! I am really mad right now.😫 please help meeee!
Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that Bella! With the pen maybe try wiping the tip off with a cloth or paper towel. That way if there is any kind of film on it, it will remove that. I'm sorry about the ink, I worry about this all the time 😢
Can you use FW acrylic ink or India ink with these glass pens?
I have not tried those with a glass pen yet, but I would think they would work as long as they aren't too thick!
What paper did you use for this video?
I wish u showed us d full pic at d end
Where we can get hot press paper please
So I really need help! I bought a new glass dip pen (the one with a longer nip) and accidentally chipped the tip of it. Do I sand it down or something? I would really appreciate some advice.
At this point it's probably not going to work with a chip in it, I'd say you have nothing to lose if you try and sand it down. I'm not saying it'll still work, but with it chip it probably won't work correctly anyways. I'm sorry to hear that!
I have glass dip pen.I bought it 2 days ago.It was working really well but all of a sudden now it wont hold the ink. What do you think i should do???
Check for cracks, wipe down the chamber really well, see if those things help!
Where did you get the glass dip pen. You are using. I would like to purchase ine
I have a link in the description! 😊
I saw on amazon the same style glass pen like yours. I hope that has good Tip
Yes I hope so! Have fun with your new pen!
How can i know if my pen is good?
please reply
You just have to experiment with it and see how the ink runs. 🤗
Can we use any fountain pen ink for glass dip pen?
It should work as long as it's a thinner consistency!
What is that irridescent paint you are using?
It's handmade watercolor from Hydracolour. She has shop on Etsy.
@@SarahStyleDesigns thank you!!
Dip pens from Amazon are good???
Do you need a certain Paper?
Hi Sarah,
I just purchased my glass dip pen for the first time. I am really confused about the ink suitable for this. Although the ink it came with flows smoothly. Fountain pen ink tends to bleed due to its low viscosity.
Is it suitable to use with India Inks or Sumi inks which are most preferred for calligraphy? Please help me out?
I am interested in using permanent ink with my pens too. I have KohINoor inks and recently purchased a set of neon inks that came with a very good glass pen. I have not had any problems with this ink or the soot based ink sticks.
Yes, you can use both. People have had a lot of success with India ink!! You do want to make sure you are using it on a thicker paper though that can withstand India Ink.
a tip for doctor martins is to shake the bottle!
Great tip!
Does the discount still work?
Yes
I’m sorry to say it’s probably not the ink of you are having problems with some of the most popular inks that are sold on the market. Make sure it’s for glass pens and test it with other glass pens with a thicker and thinner nib. Other than that it was a great video!
Thank you, yes different inks work different with the glass dip pens. It just depends on how they are made. A lot of the inks are specifically made for calligraphy dip pens, not glass dip pens. A lot of it is just trial and error with the pens since they are all made so different!
Where did you buy the deep pen
India ink can be used with these glass pens, right?
Does the Parker ink work?
Where do you buy it from
