It's one year since I started this journey of building my off grid log cabin, which was a dream of mine since I was a kid and last October 2018 I decided and took the courage to start with this huge build by myself. Since then I came a long way, working in every weather imaginable, seeing many amazing sunsets and overcoming every obstacle in order to have the log cabin as it is now. I documented most of my work and put all of the best moments into this 2 hour documentary. I think I have another year to completely finish the house, but I'm more than happy whit what I've done so far. I’ve been watching this for half an hour with no distraction, completely engaged in this work. The filming, editing, occasional soundtrack, is beautiful! I had to pause the film to take it in, send it to friends and family… Wonderful!

I did something while watching. First hour while totally confused I caught a 45 minute nap. Into the second hour now, still way confused. Looks like he's building a monster ass clothes drying rack. No signs of a cabin.

Simply amazing. I don't know where to begin to describe what I felt watching this: having a vision, nothing is impossible, hard work pays off, you can do so much even with a limited set of tools, time is so precious to waste on meaningless things, and on and on and on.
You have made great progress so far. It takes a lot of stamina & man power to move those heavy logs by yourself! Great workmanship! Your inspiration in working late into the night is very motivating. Even cold weather doesn't hold you back! The spot that you chose to build on is beautiful, the cabin will be so nice here!

This hands down was the most interesting Log Cabin Build I have ever seen. From the precise tree dropping, to the devises and chain falls set up to raise and lower logs, was Roman time. You conquered every aspect of This build. The log scribing then saw cutting down to sanding to the exact line was always on point. You deserve that Beautiful Cabin in the Mountains. A priceless Sunset. What an amazing Man you are. Great Work. On to the next videos.
I don't know, I liked Erik Grankvist's better. No power tools or over engineering. And he truly did his by himself. This guy did a good job as well, there were a lot of oh shit moments for me watching it though with safety.

The lifting tree set up is absolutely Genius!! The fact that it swivels and the outside out rigger type supports can also be modified and simply pushed back and forth, and you simply just shorten them as you go is great as well. I would love to know where the idea came from.

Yeah, moving the camera every time he does something can be a pain! I do it with just 2 cameras and it takes 10 times as long. He did all of this Not with just his benefit in mind , but with the viewers perspective.

Ladies and gentlemen this is not just a guy in the woods building a cabin, but a guy with a vision and perseverance in achieving a wonderful woodland masterpiece and a place he can someday call home.
Can we all just stop and take a moment to realize, this person is moving trees around with his hands.
I built a 2.5 story log home in Northern BC forty years ago. I redesigned a front-end loader on a Minneapolis Moline to use as a loader, and used a 1950's grain truck with a log out over the cab about forty feet long for the 8 x 12 timber joists and roof. You have some improved techniques since those days, but many things are the same. I am feeling the urge to do it again; although, much smaller, I will use dove tail corners with 8x12 cants. Thanks for an entertaining film. Yes, I will do all my own logging and everything else. The best to you, and thanks again, for reminding me of those days of yesteryear. I still have the Husky 480 I used, but it needs to be rebuilt.

I have a newer Husky 576 and it saves U a lot of headaches which I had with my Shindaiwa 440. Stihls r just too finicky in the real man's world.

My father always wanted to build a log cabin. He was a woodsmen all his life, at the age of 75 he was able to free up some time.With help from a young friend they set about the task of building a cedar log cabin.The logs were cut and peeled 2 years earlier, now dry and ready to go. They both were ready to start as excited as my fathers life long plan was going to happen. They worked all summer and in the fall it was finished. The camp was built on a 41 acre wooded lot the camp sits on a ridge A river runs through it on the front.
When he started taking 10 trees at a time you could tell he was sick of the whole 2 at a time thing
They were smaller trees so they were easier to pull
Nik, you did a wonderful job on this video! It was great reminiscing on the build. Seeing you again struggle alone.... getting things done the way you wanted them was heart wrenching. I think the word "perseverance" was developed to describe you!! Obviously you are a very hard working young man that knows no boundaries. The videos to come will attest to that.
