And then finding an empath like Floor to tell your story and convey every single emotion!? Having a band that gets you and takes your creations to yet another level with their performance!? No words man, Tuomas (and by extension the whole of Nightwish) can/will never get the full recognition he deserves. Thank God he doesn't crave it...

The song is about the formation of the solar system and the evolution of life on Earth. The spoken sections are voiced by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, who wrote the book that inspired this song. The DVD was released in 2016, the show was 2015.
Troy is playing an Irish Low Whistle to start, and then the Uilleann(ill-en or ill-yen) pipes. They are the Irish version of bagpipes, which uses a bellows squeezed by the elbow to inflate the bag. Uilleann is the Gaelic word for elbow.
The song is divided into 5 sections.
    Some of the references,
The first section is entitled 4.6- as in 4.6 billion years ,the age of the planet.
Archean horizon, the first sunrise on a pristine Gaia, is referring to the early Earth.
L.U.C.A.- last universal common ancestor, the last life form from which all life on Earth descends.
Lucy of the Afar- at the time of discovery in 1974, it was the oldest set of partial human ancestor remains found, dating to about 3.2 million years.
God of the Gaps- whenever there was a gap in the understanding of something, by mankind, throughout history, a God would be created to explain what they couldn't.
Enter ratkind- some theories say rats will take over when man's time is done.
And a section on the evolution of music. Several pieces of music played, including one from J.S.Bach, Metallica's Enter Sandman, and EDM.
One of 2 popular versions of this song, the other is from Wembley 2015. Both are awesome and worth watching. The biggest differences are that Wembley is indoors, Troy's part starts with guitar with EBOW in place of the Low Whistle, and Richard Dawkins on stage at the end reading the quote from Darwin's The Origin of Species. That quote is the one read over the top of the credits here.
Btw, this show was special for Floor, her parents and sister were in the crowd.

I saw them after years on Knotfest in Turku, Finland august 2012. This was just before Floor's cancer diagnostics and probably the little off-tone on her voice was because of that (or maybe just lousy ear monitoring) I had also tickets to the Kaisaniemi concert, which was postponed because of Covid and then postponed and postponed and finally the concert took place on a date and place I couldn't participate. Anyway, I have seen them before with Anette (me and my friends walked out in the middle of the show 2009) and before that several times with Tarja. Those concerts were always amazing.

[Repost] Here with a gentle reminder of a great Floor docu to react to (if you haven't already). Bcz do you know it only takes 15 minutes to really become an initiate in all things Floor? Just check out the 2015 Reunion TV show of her Rock Academy class. It's a lovely mini-documentary about Floor. English subbed, done for Dutch TV.
It was partly shot on site at this Nightwish Tampere 2015 concert. Floor's parents were right there in the crowd. They were interviewed right after the sound check. There's also a "day after" interview whith Floor opening up about the terrible burn-out she suffered in 2011. That was only one year before she got that famous phone call from Tuomas. Then there's Tuomas' famous words "She's right at home, doing this".
So here goes, Floor "back to school" with her former classmates from the Rock Academy: "Floor Jansen in Dutch show Reunion (Tampere 2015)". Here's the link tt right version - czcams.com/video/zRqqma4kWIg/video.html Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

    “That Was Awesome!”
    That about sums it up!
There are so many “hidden gems” that Tuomas included in the lyrics & the music.
17:30 The musical tributes include animals, African tribal drumming, then through the Gregorian chant in Dies Irae (Mozart), Bach’s Minuet in G Major followed by his famous Fugue in D Minor, followed by American banjo music, Metallica’s Enter Sandman riff , finally ending in Rap/Hip-Hop and 90s dance music.

We all have Nightwish of our own. Which is just right. That's why you get so many requests of different styles of their music by the fans. And exactly, like this song, even the musical desires can change. Which partly concerns me too: from Ghost Love Score to enjoying best the heavier stuff, many of them from the very beginning 25 years ago, but never (& probably never will be) seen them live on video clips. And, as a bonus, I've got known a few other bands too of this genre. Some of them related to Nightwish as well, like Kai's and (the current bassist Jukka's) former "main" band, Wintersun, which I've been constantly listening to for the last few weeks now.

The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation."
"Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

This song hits different than any song out there for me, it puts things in such a clear perspective that you cannot ignore, we are the lucky ones who get to enjoy life for the few decades we get to be here, a humbling thought for sure.
You truly sell yourself short if you don't "old-fashioned" listen with the lyrics sheet up, and then have a few more listen throughs to discover all the tiny (sometimes hidden) details in this song.
This is music composing at the level of the great classic masters like Mozart and Beethoven.

Thats something all Metalheads share, I think. For me it's Machine Heads first album "Burn my eyes". Effing pure Metal. When I'm angry and I want to blow of some steam, I listen to that album.
But NW not only doing that, but leaves a smile at my face as well. A few others do roughly the same, and, hold on to your hats, Babymetal does the same.. Not by brilliant songwriting as NW, but just beeing funny. Sabaton (where the drummer Hannes is married with Floor) are another band.

Please, please, please 🙏 WHEN the time comes and you feel ready for 'The poet and the pendulum' do some research (read the open letter and response, check about Edgar's Allan Poe 'Pit and the pendulum', make a little search about the composition of Tuomas and what led him there.) BUT most of all... Do the live lyric video from Wembley!! I repeat WHEN the time comes and you feel ready. It's possible very wise to check some older stuff with the original singer Tarja Turunen. Such as 'The phantom of the opera', 'Walking in the air' and 'Wishmaster'

You're so good in your reaction. They immediatly take you away on a journy and for a time you just enjoy the music. Nothing else matters. (No pun intended to Metallica, one of the best bands in the world).

In the future the world government will use this song to know who is human and who is an AI. I hope that before that happens Thomas gets the worldwide recognition he deserves as the great composer he is.

Just like how Lionel Messi is the Greatest Of All Time in football, Tuomas is in music. Tuomas is the G.O.A.T. or GOD of music... Literally... He can create symphony mixed with rock sounds...and not only.... the dudes in the past knew only classical music... what Tuomas is creating are Experiences.... HE IS A AN AMAZING COMPASSIONATE GENIUS !!!

  • @MichaelMikeTheRussianBot

If you like /"love" the intro , check out Helen Jane Long. When I first heard this, it was in another window, & came on via Autoplay. Thought it was HJL, til I heard the fireworks, then switched over to see it , then :O00000!!!! :P
'Course had to go back & start from the beginning. ;)

My favourite long-form NW work ("song" is too small a word)! The genius of Tuomas: he gets depressed, pours it into the music and creates _Poet_ _and_ _the_ _Pendulum;_ he gets happy, does the same and creates _TGSoE._ Then they get filtered through the band (plus Pip Williams and the Londoners), producing further alchemy. Treat yourself to the Wembley performance too - Tampere is the better show IMO, but Wembley has better sound, more Troy, and a special guest!

Human :|: Nature ! Floor Jansen ..the Leader of the Pack... ok no no sorry actually they are all the Leaders of the Pack. She is my Role Model. A heavy Beast and a Beauty, an Artist, i am happy that she us healthy now and defeated Cancer. Hey they are all equal professionals on their Instruments. Live them all. Emppu, Troy, Tuomas, Kai, Jukka and Jukka behind NW (not playing but working for them still)

Посмотри эту же песню на стадионе Уэмбли, там начало клавиши и гитара вместо волынки - играет Трой, почти божественно.
