- The FSA 57 is equipped with the AutoCut C 3-2 mowing head - but for tasks that require precision the mowing head can also be replaced with a PolyCut 3-2. This mowing head is perfect for cutting medium-high grass and maintaining lawn edges. For cleaning lawn edges or around trees, the plastic blades can also be replaced by line pieces.
In this video we show you how to change from blades to line pieces in just a few steps and how you can use your brushcutter even more efficiently.

Why the 24 hour soak in water??? What if I omit that step???
too bad you can't find the these or the other polycut heads anymore..they got recalled because some stupid people can't follow directions, LOVED my polycut head..made trimming all the thick weeds super easy, guess im going back to the pain in the backside string that doesn't last NO WHERE near as long as these blades... thank you everyone for being ignorant and making yardwork 3 times more difficult than it needs to be. well done.

Where do I find the serial number on a FSA 57?
This product has been non-stop trouble. My dealer suggested (ie not recommended) using the Polycut because the Line trimmer head was so difficult to load However, for the Polycut, plastic blades last maybe 2 weeks. And the Line option!!! Even the dealer described the usable time of the cord/line as "16 seconds" Sad to see Stihl put out such a poor product.
Hello Lorraine! Thank you for your comment!
We are sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing with your STIHL machinery and any inconvenience this may have caused you.
It would be difficult to comment on the cause of the problem as we have not seen the machine, and we are not able to diagnose technical issues over distances. We kindly recommend that you visit your local dealer, so they may inspect the machine and investigate the issue further.

Works fine for me and I'm cutting burdock saplings
I love my little Stihl Weed Eater, how about metal instead of plastic blades? I'd love to try those.
Hi! At the moment only plastic knives are available with the PolyCut mowing heads, but we will definitely keep that in mind! Thank you!
So many questions… how did you take the weed whacker apart originally? Why are they in water?
Hi there, kindly find a detailed instruction on how to deinstall the mowing head in the owner manual: www.stihl.com/STIHL-power-tools-A-great-range/Brushcutters-and-Clearing-saws/Cordless-power-systems-brushcutters/2107800-1510/FSA-57-tool-only.aspx
Soaking the blades in water 24 hours before installing them ensures that they're flexible and work more efficiently. 🙂
Whats the best head for dealing with chain link fence?
Hi Buck, thank you for your comment. We would recommend you to use the AutoCut C 3-2 and to be careful near the fence. Best regards, your STIHL team
Roundup
where the heck can I get the 3-2 cutting head??
BLAIN'S FARM AND FLEET in Illinois They have many stores in that state.....if you live near one. STIHL doesn't allow dealers to ship parts online the part number is 4009 710 2104 if your serial number starts with 500/525 I called technical support and it was explained that stihl is a proprietary company so no aftermarket parts are available
How do you remove the original string trimmer head?

Lubricate the top of the shaft and carefully pry upward. Heads of FSA 56 and earlier models of FSA 57 use a slip-on shaft with a circlip-easy to bend or misplace so be sure to have spare circlips. In 2020 the newest FSA 57 is a screw-on shaft for the Autocut 3-2 and Polycut 3-2 with threads. To spin the head off there's an opening on the side to insert a pin that locks the shaft. Hand tighten. In both machines I used a bit of oil and waited a while.
@@brianhayes7747 Thanks for the clarification on how to remove the head. I used WD-40 to lube it before removal. Btw, the hole where you insert a rod to lock the shaft is approximately 3/16" around.
How do you change the actual head over? No instructions have come with the replacement head that I have bought for my FSA 45. Driving me nuts.

Hello! Thank you for your comment! Replacing the mowing head for PolyCut 2-2 is similar to the procedure shown in this video for PolyCut 3-2. As mentioned above, it is best to contact a dealer near you or the customer service department in your country to ask for an instruction manual. www.stihl.com/local-stihl-representative.aspx
@@Stihl But it doesn't show how to remove it. It has already been removed. I have downloaded the manual and it doesn't tell you how to remove it. Which I find incredible.
@@drubber007 Hi! Hold fanwheel steady with one hand, unscrew the mowing head counterclock‐wise and remove the fanwheel. We hope this helps!
Everyone shows how to replace those plastic cutters which any fourth grader can do but no on can show me how to replace head on my model sthil

Doesn't do a lot of good when you don't post how to take the head off.

Hahahahahaha, total dorkfest! Ooooo I need my safety glasses THEN put my face shield on! Hahahahahaha reminds me of people who wear a mask alone in their car😂😂😂😂😂😂
What is the pointof these? Cord works better.
Hello! Thank you for your comment! PolyCut blades require significantly less energy to cut grass than a mowing line. Plastic blades are optimally equipped to mow dense grass effectively and thoroughly with the brush cutter.
